YOUR MAJESTY,

 

May the grace of God be upon you and upon the Empire of Mankind. I have prayed daily for Tiberias and for you also I will intercede each day. May the peace of God be upon you and upon your reign.

 

I write to you that you forget not the Mother which gave birth to your Empire, nor the travails suffered during that birth, and that the war against the so-called Horenic Covenant was won both on account of the virtue of the government of the Pontifical States and the friendship those states had forged with many pagan nations throughout the continent of Aevos.

 

It is good enough for a private man of the True Faith that he is personally virtuous, even if he is thought by others to be wicked. The opinion of others will have no stain on his own soul. But for public men of the True Faith, for clerics such as I or for sovereigns such as yourself, they must not only personally avoid evil but be publicly seen as far from wickedness. This is due to the attention paid to them, their influence on the behaviors of others, and that many will judge the True Faith itself according to the actions of such people.

 

Indeed, when many think of the True Faith, they will not think of our doctrines and philosophies, not of our scrolls and our councils, not of our clerics and magisters, not even of the Pontiff himself, but instead they will think of your person and your government, and their model of virtue or their grievances against the Faith will be the actions you take or fail to take.

 

Therefore your position is one of great peril, and you must be ever mindful of the great responsibility placed upon you not only as a governor of men, but as a shepherd of souls.

 

If your orders of cruelty disfigures the souls of the soldiers who follow your word, if you turn the disposition of the pagans from hearing the words of God, if, by your example or your mere permissiveness, vice flourishes in your court and country, those damned persons will drag your soul into the void after them on judgement day, and you will spend eternity reaping the chaos you sowed in your life. For true order is not the imposition of mortal will upon the world, but alignment of will and world to the speaking of the Eternal Word which sounds at all times and in every soul.

 

But if, instead, you cultivate in your armies the love of God, and his mercy, and repentance, if you are a witness of the same to the pagan peoples, if you vigorously promote virtue in your realm and put wickedness and cruelty far from your face, those souls which you led closer to God, that virtue that you caused to flourish in your people, and that righteousness that will have resided in your soul will be your crown of glory in the Seven Heavens, an everlasting crown greater than any that has ever been or will ever be on our mortal plane. May God grant that you earn such a reward.

 

I once asked the Harrenzadek whether it had ever been known that the son of a righteous monarch be likewise righteous. This was his answer: "No, not once."

 

I admonish you to be the exception, and I pray that it shall be so.

Cardinal-Emeritus Nerium, Co-Magistaire Malinor, wrote to his Brother James after reading the correspondence to the Emperor. 

 

"We should count our blessings that an outright Exterminatus decree has not been made. However, I concur it would make our efforts easier had the face of our faith not such an image among the other tribes of Man. Naught but a day into his reign, and Caurost has declared some fresh heresy. They are urged from our hands into those of the deceiver, what few were receptive to the Truth to begin with. You and I both know we have our work cut out for us.

 

Keep hope, one day Malinor will again be graced by the golden sunshine of the Skies."
