Order must be preserved,

Law must be upheld,

Faith must be steadfast,

May the Will of the Heavens be done.

The Ordermen of the Golden Cohort arise in a time of chaos, slaughter and disorder in the world. Standing steadfast and neutral to the conflicts of Men, it is the task and charge of the Cohort to ensure that, even in the wake of War, Misery, Chaos and Famine, that Order is not lost, and that the Dark is not allowed to fester. As the armies of Man bother themselves with slaughtering one another, the Cohort will ensure that the encroaching dark does not linger. We are aware of the presence of individual orders - the dutiful Inquisitors of the Imperium, as well as the Covenant that operates around many lands, remnants of the Xannites. We seek cooperation, and will not interfere with your own hunting.

The Cohort will seek out each realm individually, as to procure the proper authorizations - or, at the very least, inform its rulers and councils of our activities, as to not interfere with any official business. Let it be known, that the Order shall spare no creature of the Dark, and that the Cohort sees no redemption to the taint of Iblees. Nothing but the scorching flame of Order and Faith is capable of redeeming these creatures. Attached to this missive, is a complete list of creatures beheld by the Cohort’s orders to exterminate, and they will be exterminated with little care or prejudice.

We swear no oath to any Aengudaemonica. We swear oaths to Order, to Law, to Faith in the Light Most Pure, and to Honor. We are not Templars of Malchadiael, Clerics of Tahariae, Paladins of Xan, nor Missionaries of Aeriel. We are the Cohort. Ordermen and women dedicated to returning purity to the world, and ridding it of the corruption that stems so deep.

Organization is pivotal and cherished, and the chain of command within the Cohort is simple and concise. Individuals who seek to enlist upon the ranks of the Cohort will undertake tasks and an oath of loyalty to the cause of the Order, and become fully-fledged. All members of the Order understand that, to break one’s Oath, is to forfeit one’s life, for Man is nothing without Honor and Faith. The Order divides itself into four distinct positions, following the sequence presented below, from the one with the most sway, to the ones with the least.

image.png.42e8a6afcb342cd122ace93189ef0ad8.png

Beheld by the most divine of standards and shouldering the weight of heralding Order, Faith, Law and Honor, the Exarch is the embodiment of the Cohort’s beliefs and principles, and is the primary voice in any encounters, meetings or crusades the Cohort finds itself carrying out. His word is Law, his will is Faith, his actions are Honor, and his perseverance is Order. Holding no other privilege than leading the Cohort itself, during combat the Exarch is equal to his peers, the understanding that a cohesive unit fights better when all have a voice.

Held currently by Auberon aep Hilan, the position of Exarch is a duty that beholds one’s entire life, and a new Exarch is selected only once the current dies. The blessing of a new Exarch is decided by Election, where all ordermen set their names forth, and a new Exarch is picked from all the fully-fledged members of the Cohort. Auberon aep Hilan is the second Exarch, being chosen from the flock after the passing of the First Exarch.

The Exarch is the only position in the Cohort that does not need to abide by anonymity.

image.png.cd5441e5cc4825f5780259e86645e31c.png

The Lords Purifier and Chorister hold equal importance in the Cohort through two distinct duties. Furthermore, the Purifier and the Chorister are responsible for keeping the Exarch in check, meaning that the only two individuals that shall never set their names forth for Exarch are the current Purifier and the current Chorister, ‘lest they set aside their duties for a desire to lead.

The Lord Purifier is responsible for maintaining the Order and Honor of the Cohort, ensuring the warriors and rangers are kept well-trained and prepared to combat the Scourge that dredges the world. A powerful warrior in their own right, the Lord Purifier is also responsible for coordinating any cooperations with other Orders or state-entities from the Independent Realms and Vassal Realms of the Land.

The Lord Chorister is responsible for maintaining the Faith and Law of the Cohort, ensuring the purity of Mind, Being, Intent and Thought of the Cohort. Taking a much less combative role than the Purifier and his flock, the Chorister is something akin to a priest or bishop, responsible for ensuring the Ordermen remember the tenets they swore to obey, and remember what they truly fight for.

Lord Purifier Coelum and Lord Chorister Canus Sacerdos are the current holders of the respective positions. Coelum is the second Lord Purifier, and Canus is the third Lord Chorister. Similarly to the Exarch, the charge is life-long, and only changes if relinquished, or upon death. They are chosen from the Ordermen of their sect.

image.png.4097890a6a73ab0b3e2176fb5588902e.png

Ordinary, brave individuals who took up sword, bow, staff or Faith in order to combat the Scourge of Iblees, the Ordermen compose the majority of the Cohort and are the backbone of the Order, ensuring its continued operation and outreach into the lands of Azuras. Though they are peers and hold no sway over each other, the seniority of one Orderman over another is respected, and experience is seen as valuable, where more senior Ordermen will often take charge and lead their juniors.

Upon induction into the Cohort, an orderman picks one of two paths; Faith or Honor, each of them preserved, trained and guided by the respective overseer; Purifier for those of Honor, Chorister for those of Faith. Honor-bound Ordermen typically consist of warriors, rangers, combative wizards and mages, as well as brawlers and un-orthodox combatants. Faith-bound Ordermen are traditionally composed of priests, poets, bards and artists, who strive to partake in the crusade of the Light Most Pure and the Cohort, and serve as logisticians and individuals who uphold the morale of the Order.

It takes courage, bravery and Honor to take up arms in any way in the crusade of the Light Most Pure against the Scourge of Iblees. Aspirants are individuals who, as the name suggests, aspire to join the Cohort. They are beheld to tasks, at the discretion of the Orderman assigned to them by the Lord Purifier, Chorister or the Lord Exarch, and the completion of their tasks, as well as the taking of their Oath, are the only necessary steps towards becoming a fully fledged Orderman.

  1. Suffer not the impure, the unjust, the unholy, the Anathema. Exterminate without prejudice.
  2. Suffer not the deeds of the impure; if the world hurts, it is because you failed. Aid those harmed by the Scourge.
  3. Suffer not the temptation of the Dark, nor its words. There is no redemption - only in the Light Most Pure may it be found - it is your charge to deliver it.
  4. Give no quarrel. Simple victory is not enough; bring Honor through Might and Dominion.
  5. Mercy for the righteous foe, extermination for the wicked. Violence is only to be used against the Anathema.
  6. Faith, Honor, Law and Order are the pillars which uphold our World and the Light Most Pure. Devotion to these pillars, is devotion to Good.
  7. Words are just words, actions carry meaning. Parlay not with the Anathema; they deserve only the blade.
  8. No cost too high, no price too steep. Nothing stops the Light Most Pure from eradicating Anathema.
  9.  No tool denied; anything may be used to eradicate Anathema. Often, Evil requires Evil in kind, to be purged.
  10.  Lay no harm upon Man, ‘lest he is wicked. The creations of the Light Most Pure carry it within, and will never be harmed.

Below, a comprehensive list of creatures and scourge-touched things beheld by the Light Most Pure in utter disgust and contempt. The Golden Cohort, in accordance to its tenets, will stop at nothing to eradicate these beings without prejudice. There is no redemption for the wicked; only the scorching, purifying flame of the Light, reclaiming their souls from the clutches of Dark tyrants.

𖤓 THE DEMONIC,

  • Warlocks.
  • Demons.
  • Cursed Children.
  • Cultists.

𖤓 THE NECROTIC,

  • Necromancers, alternatively known as weavers.
  • Darkstalkers, alternative known as bone-knights.
  • Draugar, alternatively known as bone-wizards.
  • Liches, apex of the necromantic arts.
  • Ghouls, and other necrotic constructs.
  • Cultists.

𖤓 THE CONJOINED,

  • Mystics, alternatively known as shepherds.
  • Paleknights, alternatively known as eidola.
  • Ghosts, of any kind, so their souls may be free.
  • Cultists.

𖤓 THE DARK, CURSED & UNNATURAL,

  • Vampyres.
  • Hemomancers, so they may cease their tampering of the natural.
  • Homunculi, and other alchemical abominations.

To the fate-bound Draconic servants of Azdromoth, Daemon of Fate, Titan of Conviction, know we have no quarrel with your lot. Though you are unnatural, and your master’s touch upon the world is just as dangerous as the Dark, we recognise your eager participation in eradicating the Scourge, in particular, against the Inverse Flame of the treacherous and demonic Warlocks. But be warned; trifle with the Cohort, and our crusade will direct itself to the Servants of the Dragon as well.

[!]  Draped in sacral garb, the Lord Chorister lay down their prayer mat and supplicated in earnest before the Light Most Pure. "Glory be, may the Childer of Light suffer not the witch." They prostrated, head bowed 'pon the linen mat, "My life is thine, so long as theirs be spared." Silenced followed this oath, incense swirling about the room

"Hu hu hu hu. . ." A Chorister, member of the Ordermen, chuckled while reading one of the missives, covering his mouth "I can't wait. . ." he whispered as he stored the missive on his robes, ready to spread the faith and uphold the moral of the ORDER, the holy and dutiful Golden Cohort.

Maybe he should prepare some speeches...

Barrowlord Fornotos blinked beneath their steel visage.. Were this order Xannic or not Xannic.. If not Xannic, why Xan-Shaped? The uncertainty seemed to frustrate them, as they let out a ghastly screech to an acolyte who dared trespass during their reflection-time, who promptly scurried off and cowered in a corner outside of their office.

Amidst their confusion, they decided to consult an ancient nemesis. Floating towards the cosmic letter box of a former Xannite, they presented the note and tilted their head in befuddlement.

A six-horned deviless peers at the missive through heavy glasses, upon a missive left in the fortress walls of Cerulia. Apathetic eyes, bereft of the will of a warrior, move slowly across it before finally reaching the list of anathema. "The **** did I do..." she mumbles weakly.

- = -

Elsewhere, a magus works hard to reconstruct her damaged grimoires, as she pores over the details of a copy of the missive. "Another day, another flock of vultures donning the rags of self-proclaimed saviors." Flames lash across tomes, scorching scripts of black aura across their pages. Her eyes as blue as the ocean deep flicker in its orange light. "To bear arms against the forces of the dark, but so to to raise them against the unwillingly cursed. What a waste of courage."

Jiro of Clan Hirano, a studied alchemist and samurai, read the posting with a thoughtful expression, or as best as could be managed with his mind so addled with laboratory fumes - the repeated inhalation of evaporated Aqua Vitae and Diddyfunkle extract causing him great paranoia. He flipped his table, convinced that no organisation toting goodness could be trusted, after flipping his table in a manufactured fury, he began to ramble at the Hirano Clan's family dog: "These people are evil! I know it! This is another fakkin' smokescreen organization for yokai! It's going to be filled with witches and demons and do-badders of all kinds! If that fakkin' Auboreus Von Treehelm son of a bitch touches my homunculi house servants, I'll kill 'em! World is a ****! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

The dog, of course, reacted indifferently to the patriarch's rambling and raving, which ceased mere moments after his rampage flipped a poorly placed tarp and uncovered the laboratory's ventilation systems, letting the noxious fumes clouding his perception escape.

Woah

Auberion had almost been convinced to remove Homunculi from the list, then from afar he heard a screech, indetermined... and he decided to keep it.

The Lord Purifier of the Cohort, one known as COELUM, ruminated as they read over the missive,

having plucked a stray copy from the printed stacks before they were handed out.

A grin crossed their veiled face, the thin gilding over their features illuminated in the forge-light.

"In the Light, as in the dark, thy will be done."

A fragmented prayer was spoken, and the missive was folded, set aside.

The missive was retrieved, read, then tucked away in a filing cabinet.

Its importance, however, began to bubble, simmering and developing with haste.

———

Before long, Ythaen would find herself bored of one flavour of Xannite, the Sunlit Covenant which sat at the helm of Caurost’s darkspawn-hunting brigades. Though they brought her up and defended her safety, she could not remain cooped up forever, she thought.

———

Having felt the presence of the Golden Cohort’s Exarch, the girl would decide to take an opportunity. Invest in the Cohort with her strength and attention, so to speak, the same way she invested minae into business.

———

As with all investments, some level of trust is necessary, as much as she hates to do so; they’re always a bit of a gamble. Results include a wonderful return, or a horrendous loss, and very rarely much in between.

———

Now, entrusting what meager power she held to a greater cause, only time could tell how she would be repaid. If at all.
