A wretched and forsaken man greets Hick in hell,

Or a redeemed and forgiven one in the skies.

God knows..

when Vivenne Greye heard the news she began to sob, if she could see him now she knows what she would say . . .

“You will always be Uncle Hick-up to me!!!!! Do you hear me Hickup!!!!! I won’t let them forget you!!!!!!”

yours truly Vivenne of the Grove

ps. Hick was Vivenne’s first father figure though he was a big grump and everyone loved to prank him Viv always looked up to him and I will never forget the awesomeness of getting the old grump angry (´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥`)

man I miss him already. . .

Spoiler

For those with difficulties reading:

The northern main was like a corpse that day.

Under the light of a dying sun, cresting waves exposed deep red depths.

From those wounds, curdling, frothy pink spit spat against a boat.

Briny, creaking planks groaned as a sail wailed.

At the rudder, a sole figure manned the longship.

Its face was marred with a burn, and a singular long eye.

Turning to the bloody ocean, the helmsman smiled.

For it, who was he, she, and that, had known the fate of their friend.

From the depths of furs, a tattered book was drawn out under the red sun.

Its cover was stitched skin, wrapping warped pages filled with bloody ink.

‘Worms Do Not Read’

ᴛʜᴇ ʟᴏᴠɪɴɢ ᴏʀᴅᴀɪɴᴇᴅ ꜱᴘᴀᴋᴇ:

The leaves have decayed; they will feed the worms.

The old no longer have their youth; they will father the young.

The sun sets; the wise will look east.

All that is lost is the shape of ‘I’.

An aged 'ker, one who had considered himself an acquaintance of the departed uncle, ruminated on the news.

He had not, in truth, ever really known the man.

Yet, his loss was still felt. There was much to contemplate on the topic of death.

He looked out, to the rising sun and the dew upon the grass. this day would be emptier than the last; if only slightly.

Spoiler

mobile post for today. rip hick. he was cool. it's strange to see his story come to an end since he has been around for a Long Time and has outlived pretty much all of my characters.

Not even a month had passed since the last funeral attended would Gummy hear the news through the aviary missives collected. The gobliness stood frozen on the street as her beady gaze stared at the parchment, through the parchment & lost all focus of the world around her. Surely, it is only a rumor.. right? Thought the frazzled feral bean, unable to believe it at first from how shocking the news panged at her heartache already. Walking back home to check if Hick was home yet to clear things up for her, Gummy would only be faced with the facts that his name no longer stood upon the parcel box anymore, yet the building still stood, as if awaiting for the fabled man to return home. Its front door key weighed heavily in her robed pocket, fumbling with the ring of keys to be allowed inside still.

The home felt as if it had changed; colder than it had always felt now, quieter. The furniture still held the scent of Hick's presence & yet not a sliver of him was in sight. "..P-po'hai.. . ." Gummy chittered under her breath, barely a whisper as she didn't notice herself collapsing to her knees in the doorway, nor the tears that began to silently trickle down her cheeks.

~*~

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Sonia overheard her sibling from the other room exclaim the news to their surprise from upstairs, sparking a deep sadness in the small halfling; enough for her pupper companion to sense something was wrong. She couldn't help but go quiet in her bedroom, taking a moment that felt like an eternity to shed countless tears for Uncle Hick. It had only been yesterday since he turned 100.. right? She thought to herself, remembering the pinata & many who arrived to join in the festivities for the man, the myth, the legend.

After pulling herself away from the pupper to straighten herself out, Sonia would scrape herself off the floor & head out of the burrow with the dog in tow behind her, down by the ocean & begin to plant flowers in honor of his memory with a saddened smile.

"Oi Boss! Look at this!" Squeakington, Dementio's little bat minion came to him with news, delivered by his bat animatii "Ugh... I can't be bothered right now Squeakington!" he then readed whatever news his minions delivered, his eyes widening "Oh..." the count remembered that old man he recruited because the villain found funny, remembered when they argued for any stupid reason, remembered how much they lived together, and then... Realized how this would be something he would be a thing he would experience a lot in the future "Hick, hm?" he left a ragged sigh, cleaning some tears quickly, villains don't cry after all "Well... A human... He will... Probably be in a nice place right now... I hope..." he reassured himself, before grumbling some curses under his breath "Damnit... Goodbye you stubborn old man... G-Goodbye Hick... Rest well..."
