As creatures derived from nature, sprites can learn to process and understand the material alphabet with sufficient guidance from a seasoned alchemist. This will not be such a simple thing for them to learn, however, as the material alphabet would require a level of focus they may find difficult at first. While up to the player who plays the sprite, they should consider if they have enough history and complexity of understanding before learning it!

Alchemy

Sprites may learn Alchemy due to their inherent connection to the natural world, with extra lessons being required to allow them to understand the material alphabet to the level that a descendant may be able to.

- They may not learn Anitimii smithing OR the creation of Smoggers, for the mechanisms are beyond them.
- They may never learn Tawkin, such a concept abhorrent to the natural world.
- They may not learn Infernal or Black Alchemy potions or processes, nor may they use the latter to any capacity.

- They will be harmed if they try to use Liquid Mana gained from Voidal Mages.

This post's purpose is to clarify once and for all whether Sprites can perform alchemy. I have gotten answers both ways on this, so I want to formalize this. With the above FEAT section being amended into the lore below.

Also to be added to Sylvian Alchemy is that Sprites may self-teach the recipes:
Epiphytes,  Sprites, and tree lords that have held a valid CA and a valid Alchemy Fa for more than two ooc weeks are able to self-teach all alchemic recipes through dreams, including rare ones.

The compatibility was not added in the rewrite because there was a fear that many of the new things would lead to a denial, so there was a bit of holding back just in case, but now that we're past that this is a good change! Alchemy fits quite nicely with the sprite themes: curiosity, trading, whimsy, etc. A lot of the more niche alchemical creations would be perfect for sprite RP, like lens treated with Alchemist Sugar or sneakily planted Lady Bean's Legumes. This could lead to some interesting roleplay interactions, since even if they go down the very common "produce potions to sell" route they'd have to be more creative with it since sprites fail to recognize mina as things with real value. The limitations are all perfect as well, so I think you covered all the bases with it!

If I could offer one thing that might be worth adding onto this, perhaps look into @JuliusAakerlund's comments on the 3rd page of the sprite rewrite. Should it be of interest for alchemy-involvement on sprites to return, giving symbols to Faerie Dust, or potentially other parts of their vessel (such as sprite wings) might be of high interest. While I was never too particular about the concept of sprites having alchemy, mainly due to miscellaneous concerns, I think Julius has some very well made points on it that should be considered if alchemy is to be made learnable (Mainly in regards to redefining would-be sprite reagents, such as Faerie Dust, which had their alchemical properties removed in the rewrite.).

I've linked both of Julius' comments below for ease of access should you wish to incorporate any of their ideas into the amendment. I do hope this goes through for the sake of the players who want to incorporate this into their RP. Best of luck on the amendment passing. 👍

I feel like it should be Tawkin as a whole as the major concept behind it being that you are playing as god, able to cheat death and make faux-life, along with being able to manipulate it. Most of what the minor mutations offer in the minor can be achieved very easily with a standard Alchemy FA, just requires a bit more specific work.

This lore has been denied.

This went to an internal vote and did not pass.
