Dear Lord who art our father, I have committed sin. In doing so, I have strayed from virtue, the faith, and divine law. This has cost me nearly everything, my family, my country, nearly my life. At such a low, hidden away in darkness did I find God again, and pray that he finds me. In the path of redemption I seek to acknowledge these sins:

Oathbreaking

 

I broke my oath to my wife by sending letters to another woman. In doing so, breaking the sanctity of our marriage, not only committing a trespass against my wife, but you as well.

 

Deception

 

I sinned by hiding myself away from lawful punishment administered by the former Pontiff, Bernard.

 

Scheming

 

In my time in the horde, I aided the enemies of the crowned Emperor of Man, a trespass against your divine coronation. 

 

Heresy

 

In the past, I followed the false prophet Sigismund, an error that has since been rectified as I acknowledge there are only three Exalted.

My actions have not only harmed myself but others of Your flock, and whilst my guilt holds true fast, it does not absolve me from my sins as I begin to walk the path of penance. I apologize for my trespasses against You and are ever grateful for your mercy to offer me a chance of redemption. I am dedicated to walking the path of light that You guide once more, and offering my life in service to You. For You are good, and I have been wicked.

By swearing allegiance to this imperialist dog you send my grizh to the fire. I sincerely regret the politics of the Horde and the previous Rex. I know you were hurt in ways I will never understand. I am sorry for what happened, I played no part in it. 

But to read that my friend, my brother swore allegiance to a despot determined to eradicate all urukhim erases any sense of kinship I felt towards you or your family. If you participate in Hadrian’s cruelty, the Zpiritz will make lat pay.

Mused one Sir Rudolf (who tended to keep track of things to do with those he presently disliked) at taking note of the missive.

"That his life was marked by degeneracy in times past needs not mean it needs be marked by it forever."

He added, considerate of how humiliating having to issue a missive such as this must truly be.

"Though, eh, words are one thing, and deeds another. It is the deeds that follow this that will truly define his state."

That last ponderance being something he dwelled on for quite some time. Namely how, in his mind, it was likely to prove bitter medicine.

"I hope he proves genuine about all of it at least! Redemption is a worthy venture. No one truly repentant is beyond saving."

Eventually setting the missive aside and returning to his duties. Though not before saying a few prayers for the souls of those involved.

We implore you, Adrian Greye, to not forget the latter of these. The measure of sin is not by the sum of its constituent parts, but instead by the measure of man's heart and mind. Prove your devotion to our Lord through the presence of virtue, not solely the absence of sin. Be the father, the son, and the brother that you wish your children to be proud of, and you will do good in the eyes of God.

Not the fact you’d been meeting with her for a year prior to our divorce and not the fact you lied to my face. I suppose it doesn’t matter anymore, does it?” After all, Alexandria Vuiller was gone, wasn’t she?

A familiar face to the Greye mulled in his thoughts as he sat in the captain's cabin of his ship while reading the Hound's missive, ocean-blue eyes scanning the parchment as a flame-hued lock of hair was spun about a finger.

"Is it truly heresy if the Pontiff's allowin' Sigismundites t' worship God an' venerate their patron as an Exalted? A read o' the recent Golden Bull would've enlightened ye greatly." He murmured to himself. "I must ponder if ye only exchanged letters with Miss Temesch 'r ye conveniently omitted other sins while pleadin' wit' the Pontiff, Oathbreaker." Aviel Roy added before putting the missive away and rising from his seat to go maintain his ship, those same hues now looking towards the harbor of his family's new home.
