What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?:

1. The biography.(I usually think, does it keep to lore? Is it detailed? etc)

2. The answer for the "What do you know about roleplaying" question.

3. The grammar.(I wouldn't accept an application with chat-speak or tHiS)

4. That they have a skin and that it suits RP.

5. That their character isn't overpowered(I hate characters that are perfect).

(These aren't in order of importance, I think they are equal.)

(If I was able to add a sixth and seventh then I would add the answer for the "What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?" question because if the player got banned from other servers then they mightn't do well on this server and their character's ambitions because that is an important part of every character. I find those two equal to the other five above)

Comment: I really want to help the GMs out and lessen their workloads. It must be very hard to make events, answer modreqs and check applications so I hope I can help the GMs by checking as many applications as I can. I like to look at the server applications forum sometimes and when I do I see so many applications that the GMs will have to check, I hope that I can get accepted so I can check some of these for the GMs and let them focus on other things.

EDIT: Did some minor changes, removed most of the edit marks.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

This is not in order of importance, just the Top 5;

1. Good Grammar

2. Possible RP's and iput into Aegis

3. A revised character and understanding of him/her

4. Good quality application e.g Not begging for aproval, formating etc

5. Be committed to your character and have fun.

(All the parts of the application are important e.g Bio,Age etc I just picked out the ones that I thought was a essential to being accepted/denied)

Comment

I would really like to be in the application team to help out all the GM's and members of the LotC community, I spend quite a fair time looking around all the application topics browsing and giving out little bit of help and would consider myself a nice part of the team.

Thank you for reading

Decided to do a complete overhaul of my previous application team application:

~~~~~~~~~~
Forum Name: Repiteo
What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?
[1] – Format
Technically, this isn’t in my opinion the biggest factor in an application; however, it is number one because it is the very first impression you get from looking at one. If you look at an application and just see a giant wall of text with no clear spacing, it will ward people off. It also gives off a feeling of disorganization that can relate to the person writing the application, as if to say: “I don’t care that this is one heaping mess, Im fine with that”.
What I want to see when I first open an application is a neat and well defined layout. This does not mean that you have to make it look all sparkly and pretty, because that doesn’t earn you bonus points if you do that (however, it does enhance the appearance overall, and it gives the application a well-defined point of its own), but what it DOES mean is that it has to be readable, and not just seem like you slapped it together and did not even consider the consequences.
[2] - Effort and Dedication
Let me say right now, I despise one word answers. When you answer something with just “yes” or “no” or whatever, it gives off a very lazy feeling that, quite frankly, is boring and uninviting. I also hate it when people use bad grammar. Now I’m aware that people may have tough times grasping the English language, and people naturally WILL make mistakes here and there, that’s a given; but, I’m not talking about those people. I’m referring to the ones that specifically say they understand the English language and yet make mistake after mistake.
What I look for in an application is something that has clearly been proof-read by the author and (preferably, but not necessarily) by others as well. If you think you can get away with writing a quickie in 15 minutes and expect it to be accepted, you are wrong. Applications are meant to take time and effort so you can truly define your character in the best possible way. This doesn’t, however, mean it has to be super long (albeit, I love long bios as a guilty pleasure), it just means that you should actually act like you care about your application and put a good deal of effort into them.
[3] - Definition of Roleplaying
This IS, after all, a roleplaying server. So, naturally, people who are applying should know just what roleplaying means. …And the correct definition of roleplaying mind you, not the ever popular “I play WoW, so I know what roleplaying is” answer. It has to be a genuine answer so that I can truly tell that they know precisely what they are talking about. Which brings up a similar point: the definition of roleplaying must be IN THEIR OWN WORDS.
…Yeah, that whole thing was is a given, but no harm in reinforcing it I guess.
[4] - Keeping to the Lore
This one is a biggie. The lore is the very foundation of the world of Aegis, so if you don’t abide it, how can you truly fit in? Answer: you cant. Abiding by the lore is quintessential because it shows that you actually have read the darned thing and are willing to work with it. But also, it allows you to even better define your character when you can relate it to events in the past… Speaking of which… I LOVE it when people directly relate applications to the lore. Seeing people relate their characters to actual wars that took place in Aegis makes them all the more convincing.
…And, I should just say this now… If you ever find applications that just don’t abide the lore at ALL, send them to me. I LOVE reading these things. It’s a huge guilty pleasure of mine to find people who jump the shark as much as possible. Its like watching a move that’s so bad its good; I shouldn’t enjoy it, but I LOVE it. …I wouldn’t accept them of course, but I do love reading them. Just thought I’d mention that.
[5] - Realistic Character
No character, I repeat, NO character is perfect. When I look at applications, I look for flaws specifically. It’s good, in my opinion, when an applicant knows that their characters can be flawed. It shows a certain maturity that isn’t often seen in applications. Very, VERY rarely would I let an application slide for answering “yes” to every question, unless it genuinely fits their character.
Also, I like it when people realize that the options a character has directly relates to the situation he grows up in. For example: if an application states that their character grew up in the wilds and is illiterate, it shows that the person has a realistic grasp on how things work, and he would get bonus points for his application. Even though this isn’t the driving force of an application, it makes it look good, and will in the long run, truly help define one’s character.
~~~~~~~~~~

I hope you enjoyed my refined application, and I’m glad you took the time to read it. It means a lot. And I hope you will truly consider me for joining the application team.

Top Five: I deem all of them necessary, if I was to put them in a list of most important, it would be...

1. In YOUR OWN WORDS, what does Roleplaying mean and imply?

2. Biography and Integrity thereof, does it comply with LotC Lore, do the Ages make sense, these things indicate that the applicant took time to realize and learn the Lore and necessities to effectively and appropriately Roleplay.

3. The capabilities of the character, to ensure that they are not perfect in everything, thus giving them reason to attempt to communicate with other players that are stronger in the areas that they are weak in.

4. The attitude that is exuded from said application.

5. Grammar, I list this last as I feel that many of the European, Middle Eastern, and Asian players are capable of roleplaying despite their lesser grammatical grasp of the English language.

1. What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? "What do you know about roleplaying?". I believe

that question is important, because it helps us know if the applicant has any experience with roleplaying.

2. "Have you read, understood,and agreed to the rules? What about the lore?" I think this is important, because it lets us know if the applicant agrees with the rules and understands what they are applying for.

3. "Biography". This is, to me, extremely important because he allows us to see if the applicant can role-play and has read the lore.

4. "Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?" This, i think, is obviously important, because we need to know if the applicant can, well, understand and speak clearly.

5. "What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?" This is important because, we can see what other places the applicant has been, see if they might have been causing trouble on that server, and to see if they have any experience on multiplayer.

EDIT: This aren't in the order of what i think is most important, they are all equally important in my eyes.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

* I look for the skin link, and if it is working, and that the skin is proper. This is important to me because what people look like is a very important part of roleplaying, and also I like looking at creative skins.

* One thing I look for is that the Biography is of a proper length, as well that it is original to a certain extent. I do not like people who copy other's ideas, and that use no creativity when creating characters.

* Grammar! I love to read, but I pick out grammar mistakes everywhere, and it ruins my reading experience if I spend all of my time correcting mistakes in my head.

* People's experience on forums and other servers, and if they have roleplaying experience. I had roleplaying experience when I started on the the server, and found that it helped my spelling, grammar, and improved my experience over all.

* I try to make sure that people are not creating "super characters" and having them be perfect, fire a bow 80 miles, rin 60 miles in a minute, and fly. I do not like people who have their characters be invulnerable and perfect.

Thanks for reading!

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? They aren't in order by the way.

1) The Biography - to understand your character, you must have thought about your story. This will help you with what is to come during your time in Aegis.

2) Your Ambitions - this will also help you understand your character, and it will help you with your adventure in Lord of the Craft as you will know what you want to achieve.

3) Your Special skills - thinking about what skills you will have will mould who you will be on the server, whether you are a war hungry tyrant, a peace loving architecht, or a honourable marksman.

4) Making sure you have read and understood the rules - Reading the rules will help you hugely as you will not embarrass the server, and set your self up to be banned.

5) Knowing of roleplaying - after all, this server IS a roleplay server, so knowing about roleplaying will help you not get banned, understand things more and most importantly, will make you ENJOY the server much more.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. What do you know about Rolelaying? ( Because this is a roleplay server and I think if somebody were to be accepted into the server they must have a good understanding of what roleplay actualy is.)

2. Character's Skills. ( I think this is important because if I were to accept somebody I would want their character to be different and interesting not the standard , Can wield a sword : Yes , Can you mine : Yes , Can you build : Yes and can you farm : He doesnt enjoy it. I have noticed that those are the most common answers and I would like somebodys character to be unique. )

3. Biography. ( I like to see how much thought a person has put into their character , if he is realistic , for example I would not like to see somebody who can win every battle , have a spell that prevents him from dying and such to make sure that they have some weaknesses.Also to check if they have read the lore as you have to read the lore in order to be a good roleplayer. )

4.Ambitions. ( Again to check if they have read the lore and to see if their character has realistic ambitions. )

5. Grammar. ( This shows me how much time somebody has spent on their application proof reading it , therefore showing that their dedication to the application and trying to make the best application they can and to me that is very important. )

Note

I spend alot of my time on the forums reading applications that people have made and discovering what makes a good application as I have always been interested in accepting or denying applications and I would also love to help the GM's and FM's in any way possible as they do so much work to improve this server ! (( I would probably be able to do applications for anywhere from 2-5 hours a day as I currently have alot of free time , so I would happily spend it doing applications :D )

Well I reckon I did not need to put my reasons, as I am also on the Application Team :lol:

I think it's a good thing they are up there. It would give people who are unsure on what to put down an idea of what to list and how to justify it.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Their definition of roleplay must be correct. I beleive that this is one of the most imprtant questions on the application, seeing as this is primarily a roleplaying server.

2. No one word answers. That doesn't nessicarily mean that I want a ten-mile-hike of a biography though. In this case I believe it's quality over quantity. One word answers aren't good for expanding on your character but at the same time an overly large answer can sometimes detract from the overall feeling of the app, seeing as people can run out of things to say about their character but just keep going on with jibberish, or putting in information which really isn't necessarily important.

3. The character's personality must fit with the biography. Things to watch out for with this are, for example, a character who has had no or very little practice at weilding a sword but can do so excellently,

if the character has had a very troubled past but seems to be happy all the time,

Or even something like if they grew up in the wilds but can read and write fluently, et cetera.

4. I would watch out for any signs of powergaming in an appplication. The examples I gave above also fit this point, but here I inculde scenarios in the biography. Having an over powered character is a big no-no.

5. The application must follow the server lore. For example, a made up place or race in Aegis is something to watch out for.

*Also, I want to say that grammar doesn't really bother me. Not everyone can be an A+ English student, but what I do have a problem with is text-talk or RaNdOm CaPiTaLiZaTiOn(*shudders) et cetera.

Thank you for considering me. :)
