The Application Team

Comments: Basically, I've reached the end of the school year and find myself with a lot of free time. I'll be spending most of it of LotC, because I'm addicted like that. I won't always be able to be on the server though, and there'll be quiet times during the day. In this time I'd like to help adding good potential roleplayers to the server, because I love meeting epic roleplayers. Last edit 23/11/11

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?:

1. Biography and motives

What I would be looking for in an application is a well developed character with a past and a future. In the biography I would be looking for around one or two paragraphs telling us briefly the history of the character and helping us get to know him or her. The biography should explore the character's likes and dislikes, hopes, fears and their reason for being. This gives the potential for a character to grow in the world of Aegis after their acceptance, which I love to see. Biography and motives can help not only us tell if they can roleplay, but can also help the applicant understand their character and really get engaged in the roleplay.

2. A balanced character

When I browse applications, I'm picking out the Mary Sues, Gary Stus and the powergamers. A good application should show that the player is OK with losing occasionally and does not constantly seek to be the centre of attention. I'm looking for a good balance between flaws and an interesting character. When asked if you can read, write, mine, farm, wield a sword and whether your character has any special skills, the answer should not be 'yes' to all of these unless you have a reasonable weakness to smooth all these skills out. Lastly, their skills should just make sense. If your character has a skill, they have to have learned it somewhere. It makes no sense to be a street urchin who can read and write fluently.

3. Overall appearance

I would be looking for a good format, checking that all of the questions are answered and looking at the player's spelling, punctuation and grammar. A good application demonstrates that the player is capable of following instructions and has the time and patience for the server. Accidental misspelling and people who have a different first language do not bother me at all, I just look to see that they've made an effort.

4. Research

This relates to their expectations of the server, whether they have read the rules and lore, and generally what they know about the server. They should know all of the races and know what is the norm on the server. They must understand that this is a roleplaying server and the PVP is very different from PVP on other servers. The amount of research done by the applicant shows how committed they are to getting accepted and actually staying on the server. A big blunder that many applicants make is that they write an enormous biography that contradicts the lore.

5. Roleplaying

This is a big one. This is a roleplaying server and the applicant must know what roleplaying is, even if they have no experience. Playing an RPG does not count. The player must understand that you never stop roleplaying on Lord of the Craft. They must know the difference between IC and OOC, and how to avoid meta and powergaming. This is important to ensure that these newly accepted players improve the playerbase and become good roleplayers.

Most of the Wardens support each other on the Forums that's probably how Notify got himself some +1's

I also think its because mine is all the way back on page 4, lol ^^

Mine and Gaius' are both on page one and have +2 each. I guess people don't like to check the middle.

Yeah, people usually check the first few pages, get bored and skip to the last few.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1.) Completion and Working Skin Link: This shows if a player is thorough and careful. I think should be one of the first things your look for in an app. If a player doesn't even take the time to fill in all the questions or make sure a link works, what makes you think they will actually put time and effort into an rp?

2.) Quantity: If a player answers most of the question with one word answers, that's another red flag. A player needs to go into some depth about their personality and their character's personality in order to get accepted in my opinion. We need players to give us a good idea of them if you are to make an educated decision.

3.) Grammar, Spelling and Punctuation: One of the question on the apps is 'do you have a good grasp on the English language'. The only real way to test this is by reading the rest of their app. If it's riddled with spelling mistakes or grammar errors either; they didn't take the time to proofread or they sink at English. Both do not bout well if you want a player that will be thorough, as well as deep with his/her rp.

4.) Experience: It's not a deal breaker but it sure helps. If you know the name of the game and you've done this kind of thing before I might be more inclined to except you.

5.) Quality: At the end of the day, if it doesn't make sense, then there's no way your getting accepted. Your character can't have lived his/her live in the wilds but know how to read unless you have a good reason. I will have no problem if you want to rp a magic welding, assassin, hunter, builder. But you have some pretty good back story and be damn good at rping it ingame. One sentence wont persuade anyone, especially me.
