Repiteo 173 Share Posted November 17, 2011 Deltaro: It's hard to explain how a review process for a villain app works. The best way I can think to explain it is looking over a rèsumè for authenticity. Alien: Yeah, I ended up getting on the team. I do feel rather accomplished because of that. *winning.jpg* I'll send you a PM stating how I joined. (Also, why doesn't the villain application team get custom group titles? I am disappoint.) V0idsoldier 1139 Share Posted November 17, 2011 Minecraft name: Voidsoldier Forum name: Angelos_The_Innocent What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? Although every aspect of a application is important in my eyes, here are the top 5. Biography:This is by far the most important to me. This is the aspect that shows if they truly know their character or not. Without a good biography, you don't know what to base your character off of, and this often times leads to power gaming, and doing things your character shouldn't be able to do. For example, if you make a warrior esque character, but don't have a good idea on who you are, you will often make yourself able to fight, farm, and build. I strongly believe no one should be able to do everything perfectly, you shouldn't be able to be perfect at everything you try. Furthermore, having a good, readable bio makes it clear you have a original character, and can get into your character. I don't want to see unoriginal things, but I know I will. Reasonable character:When grading the applications, I will be checking for both power gaming, and un reasonable characters / actions. I will be making sure that they don't do things such as kill an entire army by themselves, or become the son of Aeriel. Sometimes these things are overlooked, and when players get in game, they expect to be the ultimate bad ass. I will make sure that people whom cant be reasonable with there characters are not accepted. Following the Lore: This aspect ties with 1st and 2nd, and is really important to me. I do not want people talking about hell in their bios, or talking about Jesus and Muslims in their bio. I have nothing against these things, BUT, they do not follow lore. I get really mad when people say :"What the hell" in game, as there is no hell. They need to be talking about Aeriel, Iblees, and the nether. This may seem small to some people, but sticking to the lore will be a big make or break for me. Maturity and good grammar:This is a important aspect in the application process, because you need to be mature to handle the role play that goes on, and you need to be mature to know how to handle ooc, and ic decisions, as well as to separate ooc and ic. Usually, grammar shows the maturity level of people, if they talk in text language, that usually shows me that they have no idea what rp is. What really ticks me off is when on the question "Do you have a good grip on the English language" people answer with sloppy, misspelled sentences. It is understandable if you are still learning the language, or have something that impairs eyesight or something along those lines, BUT,you still need to take your time on your application, and spelling a lot wrong, shows you didn't. Number of times submitted:Finally, we come to this. I will be looking at how often the people submit the applications, and see how many times they have edited it. If you apply 7 times, then that just shows you are not capable of making a character on your own, instead it shows that you just do what your told to and make it a little better each time. People who cannot take their time on a application, do not deserve to be on this great server. Being here is a privilege, not a right, and you need to earn it, it is not given. Sidenotes: I really do wish to earn the privilege of getting on the app team. I think I would be a good person for the job, because of my activity on the forums, and knowledge of role play. I also enjoy reading, so this will not only be a job, but I will enjoy this. I love to see people grow, and I love to see original characters, even if I read 100 bad applications, the one that is good will make my day.
Cooonie 55 Share Posted November 17, 2011 Minecraft name: Ratemenatorz59 Forum name: Niko What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? 1) Depth The depth of the application. It is very important to make the depth kind of.... Balanced. If it is too long, (Walls of text, ect.) some will think it is good enough to get accepted. I disagree. Walls of text (Without paragraphs or with) take way too long to read. No, I am not a lazy reader but I have a rule about huge applications, I don't accept what takes too long and keeps other applicants waiting. If it is too short, and it takes under 30 seconds to read (Or something) I will have no choice to deny the application. 2) Biography I feel this is the most important part of the application, and I do enjoy reading stories. The applicants need to show themselves capable of writing an excellent back story, I find it satisfying if they could just write 1 or more paragraph. It will truly show that they are capable of writing this without rushing through it. 3) Admitting you read the lore/rules I'm not entirely sure of this, but I think some people haven't been reading the lore or rules. I think we should get proof from the applicants by questioning them. I feel reading the Lore will help applicants understand Aegis and its contents. Reading the rules will make them avoid being banned, I hate to see many role-players get banned from the community. I've seen quite a few people who've been creating their own cities and towns and adding them to their Biography. 4) Defining roleplay I feel this is important because I need to know if the applicant is capable of role-playing in LOTC. I also wish to know their experiences of role-playing, what game it was in. There is one that I found that showed only his experience, well, I do not seem too much harm in that but i'll have to deny it. 5) The ambitions of the character I need to know the characters goal, his ambitions. I don't know, but the ones I mostly adore are the ones related to the Biography. The goal I keep is to read a decent goal of the character, if the player makes it difficult to understand I will give a warning or deny the application. I will keep that in mind. NOTE: I've been working on this for a long time and I am excited! I can't wait to see the results!
char615 41 Share Posted November 17, 2011 I am sorry That I am applying, I see you are already Swamped with so many Perfectly good Applications but I would just like to apply because I have noticed a lack of Denied/accepted Posts on apps lately. Minecraft name: char615 Forum name: Halfhand (Subject to Change To and From char615) What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? Effort Effort Is something I value greatly in an application, being an avid reader of the Thread I have noticed a Distinct lack of creativity and effort as people just cannot be bothered to apply correctly and cannot take this Server seriously, My aim is to change that all and Make players WANT to make a Thoroughly thought Over application, This server deserves the very best of course! ~ Character Appearance I often see Very Uncreative, Bland Character descriptions with little to no effort put into it, I Believe that they are missing out on a massive opportunity to flesh out their character and make them Unique in their own way, I get tired of seeing the typical Sword wielding, Mining, Woodcutting, Building, Non farming, One eyed Character. ~ Favourite/Least Favourite Law This is my favorite of the top Five, It gives the applicant a Chance To Read the Rules Over, To get to know what to and not to do and Most Importantly Learn how to not get banned. It also Gives them A chance to express themselves and give opinions on what they think of the rules, Say they did not like the metagaming Rule, It could be thought over and Maybe put into a Poll if someone put the time and effort into it. ~ Character Biography I have seen Way too many One-Liner Biography's and it saddens me greatly, as I Mentioned above 'It ruins their chance of fleshing out their character to make him/her Unique' I believe strongly that the Biography should be The Critical point in an application, It is that that should be most thought over and should have the Most work put into to make them feel successful and confident in their writing of the Application. ~ Description of Self This is Vital in an application in my eyes, It gives the Applicant a Great chance to integrate themselves into the community from the very start, it helps the new Ones to make friends as soon as they get accepted which is an opportunity I missed out upon, I do not wish for everyone to do the same, it is very hard to fit In with the community if you do not express yourself in your application. There has been lots of 'Hi My Name is _______ I like Minecraft and am 16' Descriptions which really bores people, I expect people to really explain who they are and what kind of person they are So it is easy for people to get an interest in the Application from the Very beginning... Thankyou for taking the time out of your day to read my Appliction team App! ~Halfhand
w1llll 68 Share Posted November 17, 2011 Minecraft name: w1lll Forum name: w1llll What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? 1] Spelling and Grammar Whilst it does not take as much effort as some of the other areas of the application, it is usually the first thing that one notices when reading through an application. If spelling and grammar is of a high quality, then it shows that the individual has checked the application, instead of simply posting it. Even simply feeding the application through a spell checker shows that the applicant is willing to make some extra effort. This also encompasses the answer to the question regarding the applicant's grasp of the English language. If the answer to that question is contradictory to the grammar shown within the application, then it shows immaturity. 2] Biography As this is a rather lengthy field, I shall split my answer into two parts. I] Knowledge of the lore Showing knowledge of the lore is a good characteristic of an application, as it shows that the applicant has bothered to read through the approved lore, such as that on the wiki. Again, this is a sign that the individual is willing to put in extra effort, as well as showing maturity. Conversely, somebody whose application directly contradicts commonly known lore, then it shows that they have not taken the time to read over the wiki. However, people who use information from the wiki that is obsolete should not be penalised for this. Lack of knowledge of the lore also includes having parents killed by Orcs, as this is unoriginal. II] Powergaming There is a slight overlap between these sections, but powergaming is an important factor. Should somebody claim to be related to Iblees, for example (as I noticed in an app I read through), then they are almost certain to be denied. On the other hand, a well considered character with strengths and weaknesses is more likely to be accepted. 3] Favourite and least favourite laws When somebody replies to the law question with their least favourite law being "no griefing", then it is a sign that they are not mature enough to join the server, and the kinds of applications that state that law as their least favourite are often the type with four sentence biographies, or biographies stuffed full of powergaming and contradictions to the lore. 4] Short character ability questions The answers to these can often say quite a lot about the player who has written the application. Should the answer to all four of the questions simply be "yes", with no qualifiers or grammar, then the player is often likely to misunderstand attributes that characters should have. No character should be a master of all trades. On the other hand, if a character has ability in one or two skills, and limited or no ability in the others, then it shows that the writer of the application has considered how they can balance their character. 5] Character personality/ambitions The answer to this can make or break an application. Simple, one word answers are again a sign of immaturity and lack of commitment to the server. Conversely, long, detailed and logical answers are a sign that the applicant is willing to make an effort on the server (having gone to so much trouble just to get in). Muppet 79 Share Posted November 17, 2011 Minecraft name: Rottingcoreispro Forum name: Rottingcore What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? I spent alot of time thinking of a top five in order and couldn't really decide as some of them are so close. I have just bullet pointed them instead. What do you know about roleplaying? This is very important to me, in the top two with Biography in the exact same spot. Roleplaying is what the server is based upon and if you can't do that, then you shouldn't be on the server. You should know what roleplaying is and understand what it is to roleplay. Biography I would also class the question about special skills in here too. Biography is important. It shows if people have read the wiki, what they plan to play as a character of course. It shows if this is suitable as new players without the biography option would probably have alot worse of a roleplay experience with alot of especially powergaming ideas I feel. What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them? I actually feel this is important because if somebody has been banned from 10 other servers for hacking, griefing, racism etc... then they shouldn't be aloud on this server. Yet saying that people will most likely lie if they have been banned that many times. Name the 4 races on this server This question is important to me because if somebody has not read the wiki, not even glimpsed at it they will get this wrong most likely. Even if somebody doesn't look at the wiki in depth they should at least know this, yet reading the wiki is very important in my opinion. What do you expect this server will be like? I think that this would be important because it can show what somebody well obviously expects the server to be like. If somebody says "Oh well I expect this server to be the best PVP server ever!" It's obviously a declined app straight away. I would also like to add to this app what is the least important. What is your The Lord Of Craft forum account name? How long have you played minecraft? The reasoning behind that is that I have played with people that are new to minecraft and never played it before, joined the server and their RP was excellent. Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar A little bit important but most people will say yes. Minecraft Account Name How old are you Time-Zone/Country of Residence Character Name Character Age Can your character read or write Are you a capable builder Can you wield a sword Enjoy Farming Other Information I would like to say I would love to be in the team, I spend way too much time just running around my fort in a circuit doing nothing and I feel this would benefit the server and end my boredom. Dat Burkester 101 Share Posted November 17, 2011 Minecraft name: Burkester (Gideon_Sulla_Silverblade) Forum name: Annieannie What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? 1. I think the most important part of an application is the understanding of what role-play is and what you can and can't due during role-play i.e. no meta-gaming, no power-gaming, and understanding that you are ACTING out a character and not just playing on a server. I have seen way too many people on the server who just join and don't have a good comprehension on the role-play aspect of the server saying terms like "lol" or things like that. This is also the main reason why i want to join the application team, to make sure that people will be able to correctly role-play and not ruin the server for other people. 2. Another key aspect of a Application is the biography. In my opinion the biography shows weather the applicant understands what the server is about or not. The biography should go by the lore and be an in depth story about the life of this persons character. Also, I would look for characters that are actually role-playable and the biographies are realistic to the point that they are not acting out a king character or something of the sort. I very much enjoy writing and would look forward to the work that other people come up with. 3. Something that I would also look for in applications is the effort put into the application. Are there easy spelling mistakes? Does it look like it took them five minutes? Little things like this really show how someone will act on the server. If they do not put effort in a application and have many spelling mistakes then they would also in game which would again ruin the role-play for other people. Effort is a key trait for Lord of the Craft and I think we should only be accepting those who are willing to put effort into the server and make the server an overall enjoyable experience for everyone. 4. The out of character description of ones self is also very important because it shows what the person is like in real life. There is a fine line of a difference between "I play video games" and things that actually show the maturity of the player; one may be in university or maybe really enjoys to write in their free time. Also, I think we should be accepting mature players who will be able to properly role-play and in knowing what the person is like in real life you may be able to tell if there role-play will be good based on who they are out of character. 5. Short answers are also important because it reflects the roll-play as-well as effort the applicant has put into his/her application. The applicants should not just answer with a no/yes but also tell why this is true, they might have a story behind it and understand that they did not just learn it but needed to learn how to do the things from somewhere. This is also a comprehension of role-play people need to understand that they need to "learn" the things they do in character, they cannot just know how to cast magical role-play spells. They need to understand that role-play is what the server is based off of and revolves around. Side Notes: I didn't really want to apply at first but after seeing that many of the members of the application team are not doing there job I decided to attempt to join. Also, I thought it would be a fun experience to read all of the biographies as i really enjoy to write. Some of my writing is below.
no longer active 734 Share Posted November 17, 2011 Minecraft Name: Leland22 Forums Name: Leland22 What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? I think that having only 5 limits it too much as I can think of many things I would look for. However, my top 5 would be as follows: 1. The questions that asks if your character can mine, read, write, farm, wield a sword. I believe these questions determine in a way like few others how that person will really RP on the server. If they say that they can do all of these things (like most people do) they do not fully understand the idea of ROLE-playing. As in role-laying your character can not do every single thing and enjoy it in the whole world. 2.The Biography The biography also provides a look into how that person can RP. In the biography people choose who their parents are and their goal in Aegis. They usually show if that person has really read the lore and the races. I saw an application that made up cities and also made up racial conflicts. To me this would be considered an automatic DENIED! as it shows that they lied earlier in the app when they are asked if they have read the lore. 3. The applicant's view of what Role-Playing is. This also is very important as it also shows how they view roleplaying and will almost aways show what they will do if they get accepted. When they are writing this they show what other RP games they have played which in turn shows how they understand the culture of the race they will play as. 4. How long they have played MC/how many other servers they have played on and why they left. How long they have played Minecraft would affect their performance on the server if they mean it or not. Not many people would have the same experience playing with someone who just started as someone who has played for even as long as a week. If you have just started you will not know the same amount of crafting and probably have to ask other players which could annoy them. The amount of servers you played on shows if you have the dedication to join the most dedicated server in the game. Also, if players are only coming here because they have been banned from their first server they might not be a good choice. 5. Pretty basic but a screenshot of your skin would be needed. I have seen a couple accepted people who simply say the name of their skin like "Honeydew" and that does not fulfill the requirements to my standards. I think they should actually do what the instructions say and post a SCREENSHOT their skin. Something else: If I am accepted I would like a question to be added to the app that asks them to define Powergaming and Metagaming in their own words as I believe this will cut down on the Meta and Ban reports that the GMs constantly get. Thanks for reading and I hope you will consider me! Mili Irongut
V0idsoldier 1139 Share Posted November 18, 2011 I will say this, there are several reasons I submitted a application. I thoroughly enjoy reading, writing, and RPing, and bring on the application team would be the perfect way for me to give back to this awesome sever. I will look forward to the applications, and do my best to judge without bias. I eventually want to do villain applications, and after that, become a FM. My overall goal on this server is to be a FM, but I would be delighted to have the privilege of taking the first step, and becoming application team member. I Just wanted to make this post to give a reason why I want to join.

The Zealot (Sir_Wyvernos) 248 Share Posted November 18, 2011 Minecraft name: Sir_Wyvernos Forum name: Sir_Wyvernos What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? 1. Roleplay I believe that understanding what roleplay means should be a prime focus of a beginner. Understanding what it means to TRULLY BE a character in world can create a more dynamic experience for the player and the others he or she interacts with. 2. Character Characters shouldn't be perfect nor over flawed. Imperfect characteristics make many experiences in real life or ingame unique. No human being in real life is perfect or over powered. Thus, no being in a roleplay world should be either. Also, a character shouldn't be over flawed. Whether one merely adds a characteristic flaw such as lack of wit or a strong fear, the closer a character is to becoming real, the more unique the rp experience becomes. 3. Unique stories Sadly, many beings of Aegis have lost their parents due to orcs or the undead. The stories of parents lost to these two culprits are getting old. A unique character has a unique story. A character shouldnt follow the typical path of others in writing a bio of vengeance. A character with an easy, yet unique, life is better than a character who was trained by his/her father or mother whom was killed by orcs or the undead. A story should be unique from the way it is told to the the actual content used. A character bio can be told as a flashback or a journey and can be a story of love, hope, or even fear. 4. Realizing that a character is apart of history Many beginners do not realize that a character is apart of a larger story. If a soldier were to tell his/her life story, he/she might speak of the larger tale through his/her eyes. The same could be said about a character in a large lore. A beginner should take into account that he/she is a glimse into a larger tale. When writing a bio, a person can include how their life was impacted by events in Aegis. These events can shape a character for better or for worse. 5. Care and effort If a person actually cares to be on the server, then they will put an effort into the application. Applications that have very little effort are usually short, filled with grammer and spelling errors, and weak in the bio. A person wishing to join should take the initiative to do their best on an application. Merely creating a coherent application makes them more likely to acceptable.
