Is everyone else burned out?

Burned out a year and some change ago. I still get the urge to check up on things or work on old passion projects, but I have no will or desire to log on and interact with the community or the medium anymore. I always used to tell people, "If it's not fun, don't play," and I still think it's good advice. I just actually follow it now. Lol!

I mainly play a Halfling character, and despite the current events ongoing IRP the halfling community managed to maintain the traditional whimsy and light-hearted ambience when it comes to RP, through events like the Sushi Night and the Flower Festival, war did push some people away (mostly the ones who wanted nothing to do with it or those who are just tired of it all and want it to be over as soon as possible), and while the weefolk are caught in political discussion/drama due to war, its not really what we've been giving focus to?

I know whimsy RP is not everyone, i know some people are not into it, but i think it did help me stick around LOTC despite all the ongoing chaos both IC and OOC, i think if i had my characters locked on political drama 24/7 i would just ask for someone to shoot her with the sheriff slingshot.

I check forums, couldn't care less about actually joining the server. Hopping on without messaging other people if they're available to rp is just a waste of time and even when I do there is no joy, I have more fun at my 9-5 job than lotc itself. When I figure out what to do this evening lotc isn't part of the question, I can spend my time better on other things.

Lotc has taught me to have a healthier relationship with burnout. Back when I started, I used to force myself to play non-stop for the grind, I would get on even when I didn't want to, because I wanted to spend time with my friends and not-so-much play LOTC. That would lead me to go on 6+ months of burnout and be literally unable to play anything that requires creativity, ranging from LOTC to D&D to Minecraft itself.

Just listen to your body, as with most things, it will tell you when it's had enough. Take a break for a couple weeks or a month or two, tend to things in life that need your attention or play other games. Above all, don't force it, and it'll come back to you.

It's also important to determine where burnout comes from, LOTC requires you to make about 80% of your fun yourself, if you're not ambitious or creative all the time then you'll spend a lot of your time bored, running in circles while talking in chat. Interacting with other people on LOTC can also be especially grating, since there are a lot more petty people on this server than you think. You're probably living in about 3 people's heads rent free at any given point, OOC chat is typically in a state of silence, arguing or memes, and much of the dialogue surrounding the server is not in a great place. Interacting with the server outside of RP can be very fatiguing. Feel around for what bothers you on the server and just simply turn it off or stop giving it your attention and that should help greatly with reducing burnout buildup.

Do try to keep things civil, I genuinely wish to see if its just me. and hear ideas too I guess for how to make the server better perhaps.

Just a Rant and Discussion:

I just wish to know if I'm the only one feeling this way. I find my want to log onto LOTC getting lower and lower, and at this point I hardly get on ever if not at all. I feel things growing stale. Not to mention our builds being stolen and the admins still have addressed it in a proper way towards the common players. But that's besides the point, I use to love this server, Felt as if things mattered I guess. To be honest I'm growing to hate how this server is ran, yes a good step was made with the C team it only took a few years, right?  But other problems still remain. To put it bluntly, this server is not doing all that it can, there are so many things that can be done to make things better. Better actions could be made, better management of projects, wars, plugins, raid limits, better fighting rules and actually player stats that, and so much more could be made if people took ideas seriously.

I've been here for a few years now, and I have been burned out before yeah, but never like this. This feels different.

I feel like a cow without anymore milk to give.

Yeah, I've been experiencing some serious burnout when it comes to the server. As much as I try to, I find it literally impossible to get rid of my grudges that I had formed against xyz clan or nation years ago, and I can be honest, it's been exhausting to log on and roleplay anymore, with me mentally going back to "is there really a point to doing xyz and roleplaying xyz if xyz will invade and or xyz will do xyz without telling us." I know I joined in September 2023, and that I'm most likely very very new compared to most players on here, but I mean, is it really healthy to spend time on and investing in a system that you don't see being fair or beneficial to you?

This is another edit; on a side note, is it just me, or have people generally become more bitter and toxic recently? I don't remember it being as bad as it is now when I first joined.

Yeah I feel this big time. Even with things for my characters to do, it's harder and harder to get online. I'm also getting busier with my real life, though, so that may be part of it. LOTC just doesn't give me that same spark anymore. I would rather wait for those 1-2 weekends a month to get really good rp and combat at larp rather than log in every day for the chance to maybe have fun. I imagine I'll really get back into things in June/July, though, because I have no larp those months and will be so bored. I enjoy LOTC in terms of friends and fun time, but it's getting harder to enjoy that fun time. Perhaps I just need a more dedicated break?? Dunno

This is how I feel. Experiencing rp environments where most people do get along and just tell stories together has made LOTC less appealing

yes! I have noticed I go through phases like these (n a lot of people do) which is okay! I tend to get active when map antag gets rolling, and then I stay for the transition and for a few months after, and then eventually the motivation starts waning and doing things irl starts to feel more fun. its been 7 years and this has happened so many times by now, I don't know if I've ever really experienced the middle of any map.

there's nothing wrong with taking time off though!! LOTC is a hobby first and foremost. if other things feel more fun, go do the other things. eventually you might start to feel the itch to return. or maybe not, which is okay too!

for me personally it's so hard to nail the balance. I either overindulge and think about LOTC all the time, or logging on feels like a chore (and currently its the latter). i don't actually have an answer or solution for this, it's always one of those 2 options so if anyone has any advice let me know LOL
