Vivenne sat atop her mother’s lap her mother hummed softly as she braided Vivenne’s blond hair, though Vivenne showed no sign of annoyance, she seemed to focused on her work.

The pencil in her small palm danced on the paper, as if it were an extension of her arm… The image was as sloppy as ever but the young elf only smiled, she looked up to her mother with mismatched eyes, looking for her approval, mother smiled back at her.

“Ayla Healun?” I ask expectantly

“Tí Malii Arhil.”  she took the drawing with a slender hand, a knock on the door startled her to drop it.

Vivenne watched the drawing fall to the floor in a daze, the sound of clacking metal caught her ears she looked up quickly a gasp fell from her lips, her father was hurt—

“Mayilu Ito Kae’leh llum, we must go— Lyl’enet!”

father spoke quickly walking to them with swift steps, he grabbed me from my mothers arms— I began to panic.

“Ne— Ne, Healun! Heya’saer ito?” I cried struggling to break free from my father’s grip.

“I do not know— Elran, what has happened?” mother stood in place looking at her husband with a narrowed gaze. I could not understand this tongue they spoke my anxiety only seemed to worsen as they went on.

“They have told us to flee..” father looked white as a sheet his grip tightened around me, my heart thundered in my ears.

“Flee? Heya’lin?”

“To the boats they will take nae to safety—”

“Nae? What about you.”

When father did not answer mother looked away from him covering her mouth, once she slowly looked back to him suddenly she tried to take a step towards him but he pulled away shaking his head, tears began to silently fall from his eyes, Vivenne reached out a shaky hand to wipe them away… It was not good when father cried, Vivenne did not want him to cry anymore— yet she began to cry with him.

“Go Feal, take them far away from here, I’ll be right behind you…” Father said in a soft tone, he slowly put me down so I’d be facing him rightly, my small frame began to shake with sobs. He pulled me close and kissed my hair.

“Lhor Ito kae’leh Maln Adont’ahern..” I plead holding onto him tightly, he pulls away slightly giving me a sad smile.

“Ne Van’ayla Oem’ii, Kae nae suliere’ento.”

“…Nae Halare?”

“Ti, Kae Halare Vivii. Take care of your Lari’onn for Kae alright?”

“Awlríght”  I repeat though I knew not what he meant. I would never forget those words.

“Ayla Kae nae’leh mayilere Malii.”

He gives me a nod, his hand resting on my cheek, I slowly nod too after a moment, he kiss’s me one last time before pulling away.

My father turns to my mother, they begin to speak that native tongue once more, and I know I must pack the essentials for the gurney ahead but as I’m packing I can’t help but think I’m forgetting something.. the ground shakes suddenly, and I loose balance and fall to the ground, father yells something then runs out the door, mother is running towards me with a bag of her own— she takes me by the arm but I’m reluctant to leave, isn’t it safer in the house? I thought.

Mother looks to me with a frown, she then looks around quickly searching for something, but what? I did not have the foggiest idea— a moment later she looks to the ring on her finger.. it’s her wedding ring, I’m confused when she takes it off and hands it to me, in a rush the metal chain around her wrist falls off as well, though she does not seem to notice, she hands me the ring quickly.

“Kae Ito’ceru— ti?” I nod quickly, wiping the last of my tears as I begin closing my fingers around the ring.

“Ayla, narnae!” she takes my hand and we run to the stables, my mother begins to saddle the horse— but I freeze in sudden fear, for I have remembered what we had forgotten… Elli.

“Lari’onn! Healun Ellira!” my mother looks to me then in complete shock, another earth quake fallows, we both look back to the house as it begins to collapse, I let out a loud cry as I start to run towards the wreckage, my mother calls after me but I hear nothing, all I hear is my sister screaming— I crawl through the Brocken window and climb over the fallen wood until I reach my sisters cradle. She’s okey! I think happily as I grasp her small body in my arms, but the relief is short lived for I have saved her… but who will save me?

the floor shakes again, I struggle to keep my balance, that’s when I notice the chain from earlier on the floor, I grasp it without any hesitation.

I hear mothers voice once more and this time I call back to her, she tells me to come close to the window, I do and she standing there with her arms outstretched, she tells me to jump, I hesitate in the instant then tightening my hold on my sister I jump from the window, My stomach lurches as we fall and then I’m in my mothers arm. But she doesn’t wait a second she’s running down the road not bothering to get a horse now.

fire and smoke fills the air— I shield the baby’s face with my sleeve.

I know we’re close to the ocean when I smell sea water. My mother puts me down to reach into her satchel for her coin, that’s when I realise that we aren’t the only ones hoping to get onto a boat, I get pushed and kicked through the crowd, I begin to call for mother but she is gone from my sights, a man sees me amongst the chaos and picks me up from the ground, I kick my feet in panic as he pulls me away further from my mother.

“Calm down ye brat I’m only tryin’ to ‘elp”

he hissed into my ear as we went, though I did not stop my struggling. His hands squeezed my arms harder causing me immense pain.

he finally put me down but not on the road, we were on a ship, and my mother was no where to be seen, I run to the rails of the boat looking to the other ships cast to sea, one ship began to burn and I had A twisting feeling mother was on it.

I fall to my knees right there and hug my little sister closely— she was all I have now. I open my shaking hand to see the silver ring and chain, it was all I had left, Mother and Father were gone, meaning. . .
I was all alone. . .
