LOTC Years MUST Be Changed To Every 2 Weeks

i used to prefer this as 2 weeks = year was the previous standard, but it’s really slow for human roleplay in retrospect and probably even slower for non human roleplay. If you couldn’t get a good narrative going within one year of playing a human character either the roleplay was not for you or you were probably bunny hopping around doing jack shit. I kinda appreciate the time constraint for most human roleplay with that expectation that you got a shorter time than others to go accomplish xyz goals and figure out a concise narrative with your roleplay successes and failures. Quicker pace in comparison to non-human/fantasy side of the server not on a personal pk clause.

play non-humans if you wanna invest long irl time into a character

I've mostly been shitposting this entire thread but you made a good point so I'll reply to it

See, my problem isn't with the 'shortness' of life or anything for human or musin RP (Though I would prefer them to live just a bit longer as I was under the 2 week = year impression when I wrote them) or whatnot. You can just turn off aging if you really wish to through Midpoint Theorem (Though this really only works if you're shelved and off-map) or circumvent death in 100 different ways - and if we lengthened the year I'd honestly prefer to see humans go to living to 100 max

My true gripe is, solely, petty dislike to the fact the years are like half the number of calendar days of normal years

Sort of unrelated side note, I think enforcing aging on your characters is good, but I have used the midpoint theorem to walk off the map and straight up 'shelve' characters to play them at a much, much later date. I honestly think it's perfectly fine and dope that it's lore enforced - I never really had much time to play my very first Musin, Toffee, as I was mid-college and had lost interest in LOTC. Even if years were like 3 weeks they'd be super dead by now if not for midpoint lore which is dope, because now that I have more free time I can bring that character back, if only for like 1 year before they die

I skimmed through responses & it's something i've thought about too, but i want to point out.
right now, you can play your human char for ~2 years IRL already. I know you can longer but generally people tend to PK when their character reaches around 100 years old. That's plenty of time to do everything you want.
If we went with 2 weeks per year & lowered human 'life expectency' to for example 80 yrs, it would be ~3 years.

Also, i think such a decision would seriously hamper Childhood-RP. People who start at 5 yrs old, already get restless for their kid-character to grow up by the time they hit like 10 yrs old.

For the love of GOD, it already takes 34 OOC weeks (nobody talking about how outrageously long this is) to spawn in a mature elf persona, dont make this even worse (68 weeks). If you want your human(as is usually the case with these) or musin to live longer suggest that instead, or you know, pick something else. An adunian is arguably the most reasonable race to play longevity wise.

wait is it not the norm to spawn in an elf at the age of 20

cuz that’s what I’ve been doing oops

two week years would work better for me personally, but overall with the server the change would impact. a lot.

it just sucks when i cant get on for a few days at a time and i log back in and its been so long and i have to justify irply why my character wasnt around when ive been busy with larp, job hunting, graduating university, etc. before i had a lot going on in my real life it was fine but now it's more stressful getting on lotc than ever bc of how much i miss and how much time passes. it just goes too quick and its resulted in me going from days not logging on to weeks without logging on. gah.

I recently made my first human character and was really worried about the "time limit" set in place by the lifespan.

To be honest, if you're playing from childhood and don't get anything done/find a CA to circumvent age within the 90-100 weeks after that, I feel like it's sort of on you.

Pleasantly surprised that it sort of just makes me more motivated to play on the slot, and at the same time somehow free me from feeling like everything she does is permanent.

I remember the 2-week standard and it was impossibly slow for everyone. Admittedly though, idgaf about what the math works out to be. We already have a lorepiece that excuses time slippage, good enough.

I don't see the issue, means i get to max out my persona and collect as much as i can. Coz realistically one can not build an empire in a few months it probs takes min an ooc year which irpy is realistic so i think maybe just enjoy the time you have whilst you have it and start collecting things like they are Pokémon??????????????????????

My take is that 1wk:1wk gives the most range to pick your "pace" of RP.

Plain jane humans are WAY too fast for me. But that's okay, I don't play humans. If you want a human who lives a bit longer, make an adunian or a half-elf. If you don't want to worry abt aging much at all, play an elf. Making time slower doesn't give more options, it just takes it away for the people who do want the breakneck pace of humans.

(half elves only live for the normal human lifespan)
