Yeah, mage

@Wolfy-DYeah ST confirmed it before. It's because voidal mages can only fight with magic so they can use magic as frequently as someone can swing a sword.

@Wolfy-Dthanks for the shoutout on my 64 mana system, but yeah current write doesn't take in shifting which is a problem.

Mana systems are cool but we are actually looking into implementing a stamina system instead.

Jokes aside this isn't a simple amendment. It targets the very core of a system that is years in the making. The reason we didn't have a standard system before is likely because we have slowly been inching our way into a complete ttrpg format over the last decade.

I wouldn't be opposed to a mana system but the heart of this topic seeks to want to combat the urge to win, to dominate. This issue isn't solely tied to voidal magic as powergaming happens amongst all forms of combat on the server. It is a mindset that we need to work on in addition to demystifying the current systems.

That being said, a lot of modern non-voidal magics have energy costs written in.

The monumental task of working on a system to integrate the rest would trigger

I've found in my experience with both voidal magic and magic in general on the server that more bureaucracy and numbers involved tend to make the RP way less fun. There's no need to create arbitrary mana points that someone has to keep track of on a balance sheet. While it might seem like it would be easier for a mage to monitor the power they have available, hardly anyone is going to realistically enjoy nor want to crunch these numbers in the midst of a crowded event or a tense CRP combat situation.

When emotes are flying everywhere at a lightning quick pace, it becomes more stressful than useful, and it's still the same process of self regulation at the end of the day. So I'm not sure if it would make mages more "honorable" or less liable to powergaming, it would just add on another thing to worry about both in and out of combat. Especially out of combat, wherein it could also limit the potential of aesthetic or utilitarian magic greatly. It would also require either stringent memorization or cross checking with the lore pages to quantify spells for the average user, and would especially be a headache for certain transfiguration spells such as transmutation.

Additionally, those who rely on martial weapons in CRP wouldn't have nearly the same burden. Nobody counts how many sword swings one has left before running out of stamina after all, right? If this is going to be a thing, then there needs to be harsher rule guidelines implemented as regards martial weapons and stamina mechanics as well, in addition to other magics if they don't have similar guidelines already.

In any case, I get the frustration of mages sometimes seemingly casting more spells than they should be able to or acting overpowered, but having to keep track of "mana points" would honestly be more of a headache than it's worth in my opinion. Not to mention that there's little discussion about how it would affect enchanting, non-combative spell casting, or how artificery / eminence would factor into these mana levels.

In short, while I understand where this is coming from, I honestly feel like this would be a step in the wrong direction for voidal magic.
