Mahiro 34 Share Posted January 31, 2012 I WAS AN APPLICATION MEMBER BEFORE Minecraft name: QuackyDahDuck Forum name: QuackyDahDuck What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? 1. Biogrpahy First thing is, is there biography because it would help to express there character a bit more and it would tell people what kind of person you are and what you are involved in. And it would be useful to us, to see if it fits in the lore and to see if they have the read the lore carefully. 2. What do you know about Role Playing? Well this is obvious, because if they are applying for a Role Play server, they would have a brief understanding what Role Play actually is, unless your applying to grief? 3. Grammer This is important to me because this would prove how much time they have spent on the application and then I'l know if they are actually trying and if there really determined to get accepted. 4. Presentation This would prove to me that there trying hard to make it look neat and there are putting as much effort into it as possible which explains how much they want to be approved. 5. Realistic This tells me if they have read the lore because there could be talking about spaceships than knights and elves, believe me, you don't want people wondering around Ageis shouting "Wheres the Aliens". And if you include all of these things you will be Note I'm around the forums about 4-6 hours a day and I love helping people solve their problems with computer issues or questions they would like to ask however I would really appreciate to be on the application team. I really love helping the community by creating skins for people and I actually spend 10 minutes everyday reading server applications, villain application because it really helps me to and I learn a lot from that. I am currently creating skins for anyone who is needed because I love making Ageis adorable and the forums, of course. So you know, I would be happy to help out on villain applications. Thanks For Your Time I hope I make It!
Secret Lizard President 313 Share Posted January 31, 2012 Minecraft name: Nirvash356/Relendiss Forum name: Nirvash356 What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? Orginality - I like to read original content, not the cliche "Orcs killed my parents", as long as you can make something different than that, and actually pertaining to lore, and enjoyable as well, I will consider it. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece by any means, just anything other than that one thing and I'll consider it as long as it also has the characteristics dictated by what is said below. Seriousness - I may be an OOC troll, but I am always serious in my applications and I would expect the same from new players. If I see trolling or too much joking happening, it would most likely get that application denied. Accuracy - You don't want an applicant to write something and then halfway through have their character be 100% different, such as a princess turning into a berserker. Things like this would definitely cause concern for me and would show signs of difficulty with accurate roleplaying. Effort - Making an effort to use proper grammar, not even advanced grammar, just enough to make it easily readable would be critical to pass your application. We need intelligent roleplayers in the community, not leet speaking individuals who use emoticons in rp. Things like that would definitely tell me if you are making an effort or just trying to get in as fast as possible without any care for the actual roleplaying experience. Information - You will need to supply the correct information in your application to have it accepted. Telling me that power gaming means you're awesome or something ridiculous such as that, will get an immediate denial. I don't want silly comments such as that in applications, and will definitely tell them to fix it.
Guest Share Posted February 1, 2012 Minecraft name: Rokhazula Forum name: Rokhazula What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? The important piece of an application? In my opinion from top to bottom would the Biography, although a commonly used view that it is the most important piece of an application, the thought resides that in fact it is the vital part. It can tell a lot of information about the person in question and form quite a positive or very bad review upon them, looking over the biography of the character can bring some interest views to light, they may simply range from the creativity or even their roleplay style, instead of skimming a biography, looking over it brings some big questions to light. For example, the length of a persons application can show their dedication and writing skills in question, dedication is key to this server functioning, if there wasn't any dedication evident on this server then it wouldn't be here to this day, this server requires dedicated individuals to make it live on to its reputation of a fun filled roleplaying server with an evident amount of effort put behind it. It would be foolish to deny a person with so much dedication only for them to find out that the dedication they put into their application was not enough. But, then comes the glorious part if they are up to the challenge to apply once again. Re-writing an application can bring wonders to a persons chances, if they ended up with a small application biography with a few paragraphs or so and were denied, then it would be a small let down but make the person think, he/she would easily think 'What can I do to make it better?'well, that would be simple to think out but planning a large biography would only take around forty minutes out a persons time which isn't exactly a lot, therefore while they have been denied and given the two days until they may re-apply they could work wonders with their biography and the rest of their application. Once a lengthy or very outstanding biography is submitted and includes lore and a varied history of character they wish to play, they would be accepted with no questions asked as long as the rest of their application lives to the standards of their biography, following on from that it an outstanding biography could gain recognition and give them a somewhat impressive start to the server and if they are the story telling type they can write In-character stories and gain a reputation for that, there are varied ways to go at it although a lengthy and interesting biography can catch a Application Team members eye. Secondly, the grammar. Although the grammar cannot be helped in most ways due to it varying on the persons attitude to the online gaming community and if they have grown to type in a 'reclusive' way without a lot of punctuation along with grammar mistakes could give a negative review to their application due to the varying mistakes, although as stated above it could be solved during the period of the two day denial time for them to proof read their work and then submit it once it is proof read and corrected to the persons best ability. You cannot pin point some ones attitude on their grammar level but it can give a varying view, therefore people should always be presented with a second chance if their application isn't up to grammatical requirements, therefore their attitude can be susceptible to change if given a second chance to redeem their selves during the second application. A negative view because of some ones attitude can change to a much more positive one. The grammar shouldn't really be a key to the application but putting some effort into correcting the mistakes can show you are very able to change errors made into something more worthwhile, although a key in the application questions it should be a 'relaxed' area because of peoples educational and writing skills vary. Thirdly, the characters abilities area. A person choosing all of the traits available would be a less preferable applicant as they seem to be going at everything available, although this can be reflected in their biography, if they biography mentions how they gained these skills and is lengthy in how the skills came to light and how it occurred for them to learn these traits then I'm sure that they deserve the traits available if explained deeply how they gained them. Instead of one paragraph being written up, the applicant should think more deeply and expand it to a paragraph of two by either cutting out a bit of their biography to explain why they gained the trait and how they learnt it, effort goes a long way in life and if people can't be bothered to explain how they gained something they gained in their characters life to not really put any real effort would lead to a big red 'DENIED' on their application. Fourthly, the first application they have posted. If this is there first application, they should put a lot of effort into it, for example just add that little 'shine' towards it to show that they are up to the challenge of the server, showing that they are capable of the servers reputation and community, if not then my thoughts are not in their favour. Someone with little effort in an application would simply get a no from me, I wouldn't give any leverage if this was the first persons application for the server, bias is not my way and I will not condone it, any bribery presented or other such means would be reported towards a higher up. Therefore, putting effort and doing as your writing skills limits you, you should present a very well done application showing your worth and if you deserver a place on the server due to its upstanding community and our goals to become a very 'serious' roleplay server in the Minecraft community, as more and more members flock in there will be some bad flowers about and they will be dealt with accordingly. Now, lastly I think would the characters Ambition and personality. The characters ambition and personality would reveal some interesting features about the applicant, for example their attitude towards others could reflect their attitude in real life, some characters made are reflected upon themselves in real life, many people take traits from themselves and add it onto their character to save time rather than think of anything more 'interesting' for their character. Although taking traits from yourself and placing them onto your character is unknown to us but still it would be much better if some ones placed the effort in thinking over how their character would react and their ambitions but making the effort to make something unique would point them out more effectively than others. Therefore effort and a lot of thought would be key to this area as many read over this to reflect upon how they will react when presented in a dialogue situation. And overall, I think effort is the main key here, without effort nothing would be possible as simply... Effort wouldn't get anything done, therefore my view is that effort should be placed into every part of an application to improve their chances for a successful application to be accepted through the proper means. xFrozt 14 Share Posted February 1, 2012 Minecraft name: xFrozt Forum name: Daegrim What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why? -Good Character- 1. First thing when I read an application is to look out for signs that shows a good character which includes personality, respect, beliefs and ideals and finally reaction to how others reply in IC and OOC. I believe that this is one of the top five things too look out for because of what makes this server great is the environment everyone plays on and that this server is not just a RP server but a safe welcoming community for anyone from different age groups and different race. -Knowledge and rules of the server- 2. The second thing I look out for next is their knowledge and rules of the server and whether they’re willing to apply these in the community. I feel that these are important as their knowledge can help guide another to the Lord of the Craft environment and to minimize their actions that can give them any consequences regarding of rule breaking. LoTC is where it is now because of its players and their dedication to the server who follow the rules to maximize their enjoyment and experience here. -Biography- 3. Another thing I would look for is the biography. Every roleplaying server needs to have a character background. Without the background of a character, they will not have any meaning to roleplay a character as they have nothing to think about such as ambition. What I also think makes a good biography is the wow factor, not something original and simple. Examples I usually find in applications are the fact that their family got murdered and that their ambition is to seek for revenge. It is not just an original biography but a repetitive one as there are too many of these stories and these kinds of biographies will lead them to become a villain and dull character. When I mean a wow factor I mean a biography that makes the reader and the audience want to read more to see what actually happens to you in the end or something which is unoriginal and unexpected. An example of what I thought is a character that helps earn money for the family through mining, blacksmithing or lumberjacking and was able to soon progress and become someone who is loved by the community. The longer and more descriptive the biography is, the easier it is to get accepted because it not just shows what the RP character is like and its lore but also shows that they are dedicated to join the server. -Metagaming and powergaming- 4. One thing I find very important and commonly mistaken by applicants is the definitions of Powergaming and Metagaming. The answer for both meta and power gaming isn’t just a quick simple answer. Giving in-depths examples is always the best way to show your understanding of the two words as it helps the audience have a better understanding of whether you know what they mean. In everyday Role-play we witness metagaming and powergaming which causes conflict and eventually a ban report. -Skin- 5. Finally what I look out for is the skin. In my opinion it is one of the most important things because it shows an understanding whether the applicant understands the lore, time-period and details of the race. Skins could show that the applicant knows what he is writing for his biography. One of the examples is that in your biography it says that your eye got slashed during combat, so your skin should at least have 1 scarred eye on its face. The time-period is important especially for human skins which have something like a jet pack or a high-tech gadget on their back which none of these were invented in the time of the lore. Details of the race in the skin help as they might be a dark elf in the biography, but in their skin they posted it might show that they are green which shows that the applicant does not have a good understanding of the lore. I hope you enjoyed reading my application and that you would consider me to become part of the Application team. Thanks in advance.
