That's very good thinking, I think we could fit in a few more, a lot more Ninja'ing would occur but? It would ensure we don't skip a lot more?!

Well, I feel like we could use some more. Wonder who some good people would be? *wink wink, nudge nudge*

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?:

Effort

Good Grammar and significant effort put into their application! That is what defines my first impression of someone when I first talk to them. Good grammar is, to me, a sign of intelligence and determination. It shows that the applicant in question has put in considerable effort when writing an application. The odd one or two mistakes are fine, nobody's perfect after all, and there is no such thing is a perfect application (I like to think). :D

Understanding of Server rules

A good knowledge of the server rules. Although the server rules can sometimes appear confusing and tricky to learn or understand, they benefit the server tenfold. So a player needs to show a decent understanding and appreciation of the server rules, and why they are needed in Aegis.

Understanding of Roleplay.

A basic understanding of roleplay. Without this, the player will never really enjoy Lord of the Craft fully, and only ruin the immersion for others. Any experience mentioned will also improve their application. This also includes a knowledge of power and metagaming, and why they ruin RP.

Background Information.

SOME Background information on the server. I love it when a player links their character's backstory to an old RP event or place. It shows they have fully appreciated and read about the server. I don't mind if they contradict a small bit of background lore. E.g 'Rufhos was born in the Orc town of Kal'Rog.'

Biography

I think this is a vital part of any good application. A biography of a character is often a player's first experience of roleplaying. Realistic characters, detailed history, and no meta/pwergaming are things I look for in a good biography.

Thanks for reading!

Most important things in an application:

1) Honesty

Or better put, no BS. I read through applications regularly, and can see those who have lifted from stronger, better applications and put them into their own words. The part where this is most noticeable, and most prominent, is in the responses to "What is roleplaying to you?" and the experience with roleplaying. The same answers appear, and these applicants are rarely truly honest in their application. These applicants are overcompensating for their perceived inability to effectively role-play, and this lack of confidence worries me. When I applied, the only role-play experience I had was console games and high school theater. However, I was very confident in my ability to strive and excel on this server, and my application reflected this confidence.

Experience, to me, is not important. I know many role-players who've jumped in, spent a day learning the fundamentals, and then excelled. Role-playing can be learnt. However, an ability with language and one's own intellect is what truly defines a good role-player, and this can not be taught. Stupid people will be stupid, no matter how good their instructors are.

The best applicants make their flaws apparent, subtly.

2) Proper formatting

Spelling, capitalization, bolding and making the application easy to read. When I see one, giant blob of text with no coherent way to follow, it is obvious this person has not put in the effort required to be a valuable assest to this server and our community.

"But, English could be a second language for them! Or they could have a reading disability! You can't discriminate based on their ability to spell and punctuate."

I live in China, and have lived internationally all my life. I am of mixed heritage, but was born in America. Much of my family is Pakistani and speak little to no English, while I speak little Urdu. The language barrier has been there since I was a child, and I daily encounter such problems. However, my peers have been able to submit fabulous essays, ones that I could not dream of writing, in classes. Their intelligence is apparent, they just struggle with the language, so they ask me to proof-read their work. And I happily oblige.

Nobody has any excuse to have poor spelling or grammar on their application. Check it, double check it, then ask a friend to do so. There are several great players on this server with reading disabilities, their spelling may be off IC but their lore and applications are astounding. They take the initiative to ensure their applications are good, and that is something I expect of all applicants.

3) A Character of Substance

Now down to the meat of it. The steak and potatoes. The character is the biggest part of the application, and the most fun to write. Now, the obvious powergamers who wish to slay all the leaders of Aegis are apparent and have been mentioned in likely ever application team app. But, I do want to stray away from the archetypical Human Warrior (I admit, I am guilty of such a crime) character that is so common on this server. I understand that humans are the easiest to role-play and least intimidating, and warriors are most fun, but there are other alternatives that can result in great role-play. Almost everything I do in Aegis results in good role-play, be it with a king or a farmer.

I like to see an application for a Dwarven Scholar, or an Elven Farmer. Something a little more mundane, but also something with variety. Look at the sample application given in the application forum, we all read it, it's not an Orc-slayer or a Child-eater, but a halfling farmer. And it is a fantastic application, because of the simplicity of the character and the strength of the biography. Lily is interesting while simultaneously ordinary, which is representative of much of society, and is something Aegis is lacking a bit.

4) Color!

Not just color in the physical sense, but color in their conveyed persona and character. Color shows that extra bit of effort put in to make the application interesting for the team to read over, after reading a hundred before this one.

5) Memorability

A good application stands out, whether it be through the well-written biography, an interesting OOC background or color! A boring application will likely be a boring role-player, and the only this worse than a bad role-player is a boring one.

I appreciate you taking the time to read my application (God if I say application again I'm gonna blow). I did not apply to get e-fame or for the fancy name tag, but to stop bad role-players from being accepted. That's why and nothing else.

Thank you.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1) A good biography so you can set a feel for yourself when you RP and so if people ask you questions like "Where are you from" you have a good, thorough, and clear answer not just "I don't remember. . ." or something stupid like that.

2) A good hold of the English language because I hate trying to decipher peoples butchered form of English.

3) Some experience of previous RP so people don't meta or powergame on accident as that can get annoying when people do this on accident.

4) Knowing what Meta, and Powergaming are and the ability to know what each one is. This is important so people don't accuse someone of meta/powergaming when they just don't know what either of them are.

5) A decent skin because I don't like looking at poop when people post their skin. It may make others feel that half-ars*d work is good enough and may do a poor job on everything in their bio, and while playing.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Reading and understanding the rules: one of the reasons this server is so great is the fact that everybody on the server follows the rules to the dot and if they don't, they get banned.

2. Reading and understanding the lore: I absolutely hate reading apps that have nothing to do with the lore, if someone can't take the time to read the lore then they should have no interest in joining the server.

3. Know what role-playing is: Not RPGing, role playing, you are always your character, even when nobody is around.

4: Be original: I'm not saying their application would get denied for this sole reason, (if they can make a great background with it, I would probably pass them) but I would prefer not to hear the old, my parents were killed by orcs story all of the time!

5: Fill everything out fully/make sure your character bio is long enough: If the character Bio is long, everyone can know your character more, and it shows that your dedicated to joining the best server in mc. (it can also be a sign of maturity showing that you can compose yourself to write a full story for your character.)

Ex notes: I would love to join the application team, I would like to help the server in more ways than just a $25 donation.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Correct grammar, punctuation and spelling.

This for me this is a big one. I have spent many long hours looking at apps from the other servers that I have inhabited and the people who use correct grammar, and spelling are always the people who turn out to be someone worthwhile. Every time I look at an application I just skim through to see how well they use grammar and spelling and if they don't use it correctly at all but claim to have a good grip of the English language then I usually wont even bother reading it and just deny the application. However, I do realize that English is not every body's first language and I usually make an exception if that is the case, but not always. One of the things I have noticed in my year of playing Minecraft is that the people who put more time and effort into their applications are the ones who actually want to be on the server and have enough maturity to make some sort of contribution.

2. A good sense of roleplay

On other servers I have been on, this was not an issue what soever due to me only being on survival servers. However in the little time I have spent on this server, role playing has stood out as being easily the most prominent feature that makes this server stand out. With this in mind, I would like to enhance this even further by pushing any server applicants to really bring forth their inner imaginative mind. The main thing that to me makes a good sense of role play is originality. On applications I would like to be entertained by the person's biography and story, because a person who writes a creative application is most likely to bring creativity and enhance the server's experience.

3. A firm grasp of the rules

On some of the other servers I have been on, one of the things they did was in their "rules" section, they had some sort of code word that had to be incorporated into one's app. Now, I am not saying this should be done here but what I am saying is that I would like to see someone who understands the rules and someone who has spent time reading up on the server. In an app the better the shows understanding for rules and concepts such as Metagaming and Powergaming will be someone who is better off on the server.

4. Originality

This for me is also another big one. How original and creative is the person? Minecraft is all about being creative and coming up with new ideas and those who have a better imagination are better players that I enjoy having around. Now, I don't mean originality just in the role playing sense, but as their app as a whole. I ask myself, what can they bring to the server, what flowing new ideas will come from them that will improve the server's experience? I prefer to see someone who stands out, someone who will bring an experience to the server like no other. I want an individual, not a collection of other people's ideas. What I mean by this is that I like an application that was clearly not inspired by other apps because of how hard working the person is. To me, in life thinking is one of the more challenging things that people often chose not to do mainly due to its difficulty and need of the person exerting them self. An individual who thinks shows that they will try and overcome those difficulties and thus will further enhance this server.

5. A fun person

The big idea I have been trying to convey is that I want each person to enhance the server. Having a person who is fun, to me at least is ultimately the person who brings the most to a server. My view on Minecraft is that it is ultimately just a game, and the goal of a game is to have fun, thus making fun people prime candidates for improving the server. A person who makes epic structures may enhance the server by making it more beautiful but if they are ruining the experience of the other players by not being a fun person then to me, they are not actually enhancing the server in anyway. I think that this server focuses on fun and that is why I consider having a fun person to be most important. I think a fun person really ties well together with an original person and a good role player due to the fact that the server is a role playing server so those that are the most fun to interact with will just make the role playing aspect even better.

Final Note

I would like to conclude my app by saying that I am yes, fairly new to the server. However, I am not new to Minecraft and I have seen what makes or break a server, and from this I have gathered a good understanding of what makes someone a person that I would want to have on my server.

Side note edit:

Oh wow, I have just looked at other peoples apps and I feel like an idiot. I talk about about creativity yet the apps that proceed mine seem to have the same concepts; oh well guess great minds think alike.
