~New~ Application Team Post

 Share

Recommended Posts

I've last heard that the next wave of Application Team Members will be coming in around February-March. I could be wrong but I think the 1000 We have currently will be enough for now. Native could decide differently though.

Oh okay! I wasn't sure so I just made an application here, I will of course re-do it then though.

Native said to me that with the new intake of members from 2.0 and the trailer they are releasing, there will be a chance for new people to enter the App Team.

Sorry I was a bit off...

Be sure that you are not giving out incorrect information next time, we don't want these Application Team applicants being misinformed!

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

Number One: Maturity

I believe maturity is one of the biggest traits an applicant should show. Mature players are generally accepted as far better role-players than an immature player. Mature players also allow the player-base to have a much more mature Roleplay experience that can range from sexual to narcotics and back again, whereas immature players would simply hinder such a unique experience with their complaints. Maturity also allows for clear understanding of any messages you are trying to communicae to another player. Mature players respond with grace and a mature atmosphere arises, allowing for clear communication and a great Roleplay experience.

Number Two: A Well Written Biography

A well written biography can make or break an application. When flicking through applications now, I find people who put time and effort into their biographies and actually plan ahead and put thought into their entire application, are usually the ones that have the most fun, excitement, sorrow and misery, and generally enjoy their time on Lord of the Craft.

Number Three: Understanding and Practice of Rules and Regulations.

Now, I believe we can all admit we never read the entire novel of Guidelines when we register for these forums because they are long, tedious, and trolls are dealt with by our wonderful Forum Moderators. Though, when Shift spends his time allowing such a treat of a server to thrive by writing rules in

such an easy to understand format, It is plain to see those whom have read the rules, understand them, and can abide by them at all times. Misunderstanding of the rules is a major part of an application, and understanding is your first step towards acceptance.

Number Four: Being Unique

Everyday, while wandering Asulon, I find that many people have wandered down the same path. Some become shopkeepers, or guards. They have no real uniqueness to their LoTC lives. They seem to enjoy playing the same character as that guy you said "Hail" to. When I read an application, and it includes any mention of a connection between their parents and death, I cringe, and think "This player will be just another "Shopkeeper" type. But when I read that their parents are still alive, but have exiled the person due to a betrayal or simple distaste for their child, and that that distaste drives them to become worthy in their own eyes through banditry or assorted other misdeeds, I think "This player will be unique, this player will help our community. And with a playerbase as big as ours, we need people like that, people that will change this server for the better with their hilarity, or darkness.

Number Five: Independence

During my wanderings, I have encountered people who cannot sustain their own lives. They beg for food, minas or items. This is fine, and if roleplay'd well, can really bring an exciting aspect of roleplay to the table. Now, I understand that when you first join, hunger is a problem, but when an applicant joins, they should seek out the beginning of their LoTC lives, not explore. Exploration is one of the many things that can be done sub-consciously. Say your an Elf, and you are wandering around, amazed at the cloud temple, then you wander off and die of hunger, yet you only saw the Cloud Temple and some trees, whereas if you took in the cloud temple, asked someone around how to get to Elandriel, and they tell you, you have completed your first LoTC roleplay, without even trying. Now, On your way, you travel through the Elf camp, maybe even run from a bandit. All this is being done, while you take in the sights and enjoy yourself. This is all being done, without you realizing, but you still get that sense of awe. I know I was in awe when I first stumbled upon Elandriel. Independence will give you much more satisfaction then begging for food because you spent too long somewhere.

These are the 5 things I look for in my trawling of applications. I hope you agree with my reasoning, and look upon this application with favour.

Regards,

Destro / Adelas

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Roleplay - Possibly the most important. The characters bio must fit with the lore of LotC, and musnt be anything stupid, and they must fully understand the rules of RP.

2. Do they sound like a genuine, well manered and well spoken person. We dont want LotC littered with players who can barely pass as an orc!

3. Thier skin. If a player comes into the world of Aegis or Asulon dressed as a spaceman, it's just not logical.

4. Thier Bio! A bio should be of a generous length, with good english and a believable story. The story should also cover a lot of thier background information, and more importantly be original! we can't have everyone coming here for revenge.

5. A balanced character - Players should have thier ups, and thier downs. We dont want players coming in who have it written that they are good at everything and bad at nothing!

On a side note i also think it is important to be fair and unbaised when judging applications. I dont want to gice anyone an unfair advantage or disadvantage for any reason other than what i read in thier application.

My application to the Application Team:

Minecraft name: RumDoodle

Forum name: Zeddicus Fyren (soon to change to Bantak in a few weeks.)

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

Number One : Grammar

In order to maintain the understanding of the reader, control and respect, you must look upon your work as most grammatically correct and understandable, therefore if your application is read by one of the Application Team members, they would be able to read it smoothly and easily without being angered by your in-grammatical approach to an application for the Lord of the Craft server.

A good example of being in-grammatical:

Please write a description of yourself: well i like play footie wiv ma mates and we like do st00f and muk arund in sk00l cus we are so cool and this server is awesome!!!11

A good example of being grammatical and correct:

Please write a description of yourself: In my free time my friends and I enjoy playing multiple sports, such as; Rugby, Football and Tennis. I enjoy Minecraft and I tend to play a few hours a day, trying not to clash with my homework.

Number Two : Maturity

If you approach the server just to muck around and ruin the in-game experience and enjoyment of the server, you are deemed upon as immature and incapable of remaining or even joining the server. Lying about your age may be a one way pass for you, but all the Application Team staff are capable of noticing in the way you write and act that you may or may not be the age you tell us you are.

Number Three : A well written Biography

In your first application you are asked to write a biography of your choice about your character. In this biography you must include all the key factors and points that you want the server to know about your chosen/created character. You would have to remain with this character for the majority of the time you are on this server, so you must aim to have it as top and 'filling' as possible. You have to aim to be as neat and organised, as well as being true about all the weaknesses and gains that your character has. Downloading extracts from eBooks will be noticed and disapproved, so aim to write your own, and aim to have a few paragraphs. The key fact is to be as top in grammar as possible.

Number Four : Never start begging

If you come about and get your application denied, or in your application start begging for people to let you join the server, racking up hundreds of reasons, don't. Begging will result in your application being denied, and your chance of joining the server would be delayed. Don't start messaging the admins and Application Team for reasons why they should be accepted, just wait your time and re-write it so it's top and the best it can possibly be.

Number Five : Be consistent, and try make a change

Once being accepted to the wonderful world of Lord of the Craft, try aim to be as unique as possible, not like a simple low person. Even though getting into the server was a tough one, once being on it is better that expected, you can just play the game and enjoy yourself. Once joining though, to try make a great change, aim to do something perhaps unexpected, or even expected, but highly doubted, so people respect you and look upon you as, 'That guy who came out of nowhere and changed the way this server moved...'. Compliments such as these are earned by not just self-centered greet and holding-of-the-trophy, but through companionship, and trust to and from players of the community.

Note: I hope this one works out, if not I would just like to say that it would be a pleasure to help sort out and organise the server, and give the Admins some rest from the constant upbringing and countless, and helpful support of the server. I would like to bring a part of the burden of the server onto my shoulders and be as helpful as possible.

Kind regards and sincere thanks,

~Pete

This is my second try at the position as i believe my first app was rubbish and I was contradicting myself with my grammar and layout :P.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?:

[1]: Understand the rules

I believe that if a person has not read the rules or has not understood them then what is the point of them joining the server as they will get banned on their first day.

[2]: A good definition of Meta and Power gaming

I believe a person should have a good definition of Meta and Power gaming as it will make them understand the rules more. Also if they have a good understanding of Meta and Power they will be better at Rp making the game a lot more enjoyable for the person and others.

[3]: Biography

The third most important part of an application I believe is that a persons biography should be long enough the give the reviewer a good understanding of their character. A biography shows that a person has thought hard about their character and if they have a good biography it shows they also have a good understanding of Rp which will help answer two questions in one. The length of the biography is also just as important as the detail and if a person has just wrote 5 lines of detailed writing it does not give the reviewer a good view of the person character so there has to be a balance between detail and length.

[4]: Good Grammar and Layout

Another important thing in an application is the persons grammar. If a person writes an application with bad grammar so I cannot understand what they are saying I would refuse it straight away. Good grammar in an application gives me the a good first impression of the person as if they have terrible grammar in their app, it shows they are not going to be bothered about their grammar in game. Also good grammar will make the reviewer enjoy the app a lot more making them more likely to accept it. Another important part of the application is the layout of the app. If a person has not followed the guidelines and answered all the questions but has mixed all the questions up and not put spaces in between their answers or made it look nice this would also be a downfall as time took to make the application shows a lot about the persons personality as well.

[5]: A Good definition and experience of RP

The final thing that I think an application needs is experience with RP. To play this server a person will have to know basic RP. If a person makes an application to a RP server without researching RP, it shows a lack of commitment and effort. I also believe if a person has no experience with RP they should have to think about what RP really is about and if they really know what it involves. Due to this I believe this section of the application requires about 3-5 lines of good detailed information. If a person has had experience with RP they should also try their best to show it in their app as I believe the RP definition section of the app is one of the most important.

Extra Information:

I really want this position as i wish the help users with their apps and make the whole process a lot less scary for them and also to quicken up the process of accepting apps. I have had experience with accepting apps on other servers and I believe I was fairly good at it.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. The definition of Role-Playing, Meta-gaming, and Power-gaming.

I think it is really important that the person applying has thorough and thought-out definitions of these concepts. It is a good way to find out if he/she will be a good Role-Player, or if they will Meta or Power-game. For example, if someone has absolutely no idea at all of what Power-Gaming is, that person will most likely power-game by accident. Meta-gaming is another important aspect. People should know they are not to use Out Of Character information while In Character. And finally, Role-Playing. It is really important that people know what Role-Playing is, so when people ask them something like: "Where are ye from?" that person will not go like: "I was just on another server, but it sux so im leaving it now. Wht about u?"

2. Their understanding of the server rules, and if they agree to them.

This is also really important. If someone applies to the server without even knowing what rules they should follow, their fun could be ruined, and possibly the fun of others. That person should read, and reread the rules, just to make sure they understand the rules, and fully agree to them.

3. The Biography, and if it makes sense, and follows the Lore.

This is another important aspect. The biography must make sense, and has to be well-written, with detailed events to describe the character's personality and background. I would be looking for a long, detailed bio, not a short paragraph. There shouldn't be TOO many mistakes, but I will let there be a few, as I know no one is perfect, and not everyone's first language is English.

4. The RP examples.

With the RP examples, we can see the quality of the person's RPing. Although, this does not mean that they will be a good RPer while in the server, as they could've taken hours to write that, or it could've been mere minutes.

5. The Skin

I think it is important that we see what skin the person is using, and if it goes with the biography. Also, the skin should be appropriate for the server.

In my opinion, everything on the application is important, but I think the things I listed above or the most important.

A FM(who's also on the app team) told me that the format is changing soon. I tried asking Shift to be sure but I got no reply. Just keep that in mind.

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?:

Effort

Good Grammar and significant effort put into their application! That is what defines my first impression of someone when I first talk to them. Good grammar is, to me, a sign of intelligence and determination. It shows that the applicant in question has put in considerable effort when writing an application. The odd one or two mistakes are fine, nobody's perfect after all, and there is no such thing is a perfect application (I like to think). :D

Understanding of Server rules

A good knowledge of the server rules. Although the server rules can sometimes appear confusing and tricky to learn or understand, they benefit the server tenfold. So a player needs to show a decent understanding and appreciation of the server rules, and why they are needed in Aegis.

Understanding of Roleplay.

A basic understanding of roleplay. Without this, the player will never really enjoy Lord of the Craft fully, and only ruin the immersion for others. Any experience mentioned will also improve their application. This also includes a knowledge of power and metagaming, and why they ruin RP.

Background Information.

SOME Background information on the server. I love it when a player links their character's backstory to an old RP event or place. It shows they have fully appreciated and read about the server. I don't mind if they contradict a small bit of background lore. E.g 'Rufhos was born in the Orc town of Kal'Rog.'

Biography

I think this is a vital part of any good application. A biography of a character is often a player's first experience of roleplaying. Realistic characters, detailed history, and no meta/pwergaming are things I look for in a good biography.

Thanks for reading!

I support +1

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?

1. Bio: Biography is the most important thing. I think that because you can't have someone living in an unreal place. I once saw an app where someone said his character was from Russia. They also need to supply a good amount of information needed to have a charcter built.

2. Maturity/grammar: Someone who is not responsible, and will constantly troll everyone will probably not be welcome. Good grammar would be important because I often times see people mispelling words to the point where I can't even read it. I don't think the lotC community would want that.

3. Understanding of rules and knowing of power/metagaming: I really hate when I find meta/powergamers. Also people breaking the rules. A clear understanding of the rules will prevent this.

4. Good character: No characters that are able to do every skill there is. Also, a good skin that would fit the race of that character. I usually like a character that knows 3-4 skills, no more than 5. Also, a good skin, no Honeydews!

5. The open response: I'd like to base the acceptance or denial of applications on how the characters would respond to the situations they are in. Applications should have a good answer that will explain their characters actions.

I forgot to add one. The app must agree with lore.

One more thing. I am on the forums 4-5 hours a day. Sometimes more! I also PM people helpful things to suggest for their app. I would LOVE doing this.

5 things you think are important in an application:

Creativity - I enjoy reading good posts, but readin a generic story isn't always the funnest. I wouldn't deny someone for it unless it was REALLY bad though.

Grammar - Basic grammar is nice, a few commas and some periods, along with some capital letters, make everything look good.

Spelling - Not sure if it'd fit in with grammar but... Spelling even at a basic level is great to have, it saves the Application team (I'll laugh if I typo in this post) time trying to figure out what words you meant.

Not trolling too much - A few OOC jokes here and there MIGHT be ok (as long as they don't affect the story), but trolling in an application is not the best thing to do.

Accuracy - Actually filling out the application in the correct way is essential, leaving out questions and just skipping around is not ok at all!

Seriousness - You can tell if someone actually wants into the server or not by reading their application, if they're just being silly the whole time then you probably shouldn't accept it!

What do you think are the top five things, that are most important in an application and why?:

I Was going to put them in order of importance, but realized that they are all equally important.

Knowledge of what Meta and powergaming are. You can be the greatest RPer on earth, and give people a horrible RP experience if you do not understand that you can't simply do what you want, or know what you want, then you are going to give everyone on the server a horrible time, and it's one of the most serious things you can do wrong.

Bio/Open Response: These two factors give a little insight into a player's RP potential, and grammar ability. It also shows any potential flaws in the person's understanding of the rules and lore, and all these factors tied together mean the bio and open ended question are two of the most important things to look at in an application.

Grammar: L33t spelling and bad grammar in RP can sometimes ruin the moment, and leave everyone feeling annoyed. It is important that new applicants understand that we do not look kindly upon an app using phrases like "Ub3r pwnage."

Understanding the Lore: You cannot RP silly things such as super-soldiers from the future, or a fallen god. Applicants must understand the Lore, or they will cause mass confusion and without the Lore, the server is almost nothing.

RP Skin: This one explains itself, but I'll help it along. RPing with Mario or Batman is NOT what this server is about, and it kills RP worse than if you shot it with a metaphorical gun.

Top 5 things:

Proper Biography:

Having An Application to the server can not be small, sloppy and un-detailed. Without a Good Biography how is the reader supposted to know what the character will do, and what this character is like. Therefore the Biography is the most Important part of the Biography to me. Also the Biography should not have false Lore, thats meaning the Application is not valid. Also you should check the Biography for any sign of Power gaming. Signs of Power gaming will mean that the character will not be a fun person to Role Play with.

A long, detailed biography is always enjoyable to read, as it gives a good interpretation of what the character will be like. It shows that the person really wants to be on the server, and will put effort into things to be here.

Respect:

Applications which have been denied over and over again, and they rage about it, that is not a good sign in a Role Player. That shows immaturity and immaturity is not good, if you want to be accepted onto the server. It is really hard to take a application seriously if the Application has rages all over it.

Being respectful in an Application makes it more enjoyable to read and really helps the reader understand that the Applicant really wants to be here and to enjoy it too. Writing in bad detail and a short biography which i see A lot, on the forums is proven that they cannot spend time to respect us enough to do it properly. Application members like to see nice laid out Application's when it has respect for us.

Grammar:

Applicants with bad grammar or "urban language" are known to be lazy not bothering to put the time into their Application, to even spell right, there are the exceptions of some spelling mistakes, if there are few or the writer is not English, However if there is so many spelling mistakes and the writer is English then it shows they can not be bothered. I normally think that bad grammar hinders the applicants ability to Role Playing. Terrible Grammar can spoil Role Play. It needs to be implemented in Game to get the Role Play effect.

Role Play Experience/ knowledge:

If the Applicant has no experience with Role play, then there might be problems with meta-gaming and Power gaming when people are trying to Role Play. This is not Fun when it happens and it defiantly destroys Role Play moods. This can normally end in Out of Character flaming, in game spamming the chat with rage talk. Which everyone likes to avoid. Even though, Sometimes it is nice to teach a newcomer to Role playing, the tricks of the trade. Most of the Time it is a Bad thing.

However Role Play experience is not needed if the applicant expresses they want to learn how to, this shows they really want to join and they want to be good and want good impressions on the people of the server.

A Skin link that Is Working:

Having a Non-Working Skin link, or not one at all can prove to be lazy. Having a working skin link helps out the Application Team, so they can see if you have created your skin yourself, or you have just got one from SkinDex or something... There is no problem in taking a skin from a skin website but having a skin that you have created for your Role Play character shows that you want it to be a good one, a keeper.
