Petyr 485 Share Posted December 12, 2011 I'm here today to bring to you a look at some of the mechanics we will be implementing regarding the new map. The original Aegis was not exactly prepared for the huge playerbase, and we have some solutions to make the world more dynamic and epic. Quote from Native: The new map will have a network of regions in the center of the map that most of which will be protected. We will reveal a map stating which regions are buildable without charters in time. Essentially, the heart of the map (in between the capital cities) will be split up into regions based on biome (usually), with the majority having something distinct or special in them. This can range from lots of rivers to unique trees to lots of cows, etc. Special region flags will let us give each nation or biome specific mob spawns and possibly distinct mob drops. What's really cool is that now, instead of squares, we are able to create polygonal regions of up to 20 sides! This makes dividing the biomes up far easier and cleaner. We are predicting, almost hoping, for more racial conflict on the new map, and these new regions will give warfare some meaning. Instead of just killing some humans, the orcs will actually be able to conquer a region, basically trading most of the building rights. It will be much easier to determine where the borders of a nation begin and end. Exact details on this are still not clear. Also, with a Town/Nation Charter, you can earn the right to build in these protected regions, instead of being forced into the Wilds (outside of the capital city zone). I believe that the current plan is that only certain inner regions will be allowed to have donator plots, with some being reserved for conquering and such. Hopefully this cleared up some concerns or questions. Get excited!

h8pvmnt 27 Share Posted December 12, 2011 So will the Wilds be outsid of this central region or will there no longer be wilds? And if there are still wilds then it sounds like the capitals are the end of the regions but I believe that there should be regions around all sides of the capital cities so you can maybe have a capital under siege. Just a suggestion.

Trazier 115 Share Posted December 12, 2011 Couple questions. 1: Are the donator plots for diamond/bedrock still going to be 50x50 and 100x100 on the new map? 2: Someone mentioned a while back about restricting building in the wilds, and having larger home sections in the cities so they actually seemed populated and such, instead of people running off, building a giant city for themselves and 2 friends, then getting bored and leaving an empty town forever. Any progress having been made on this? 3: In another part, it was mentioned how one could go from laurelin, to the temple, to oren, to the undead fort, all in under 10 minutes. Are there any plans to increase the travel time between kingdoms so it'll feel like you're actually travelling? Maybe have a use for some roadside inns to pop up and offer people a place to stay the night. 4: This is just a personal question from me. I really like how night is extended in the verge. Would it be possible or is it planned to extend the day and night on the 2.0 map? It's hard to RP when every 5 minutes the sun is either rising or setting. If days and nights lasted half an hour, or an hour each instead, it could make for some fun situations. Nightime banditry was fun when the server was young, and people actually went out in groups or stayed indoors til the sun rose. I'd like to see that kind of stuff again.
