The Grand Library of Cloud Temple.

Hello folks. Recently it occurred to me that my roleplay (Swiftquill) limits me to very few opportunities. Most gathering jobs aren't inline with my little guy's story as he is an old and quiet elf. However this isn't about me but what spawned from my desire to play a modest part in our big story here.

The idea is the "Grand Library of Cloud Temple." Build possibly on the other side of the monastery, this neutral library houses the largest collection of in-game lore for all 4 races:

Each race would have a dedicated floor.

Each floor would be divided into History, Epics (Stories involving our own roleplayers!), Art (poetry and song lyrics), and Miscellaneous. (recipe books, guides from the website, etc.)

Elves could have books in elvish and english if people would like.

Orcs would be amazingly fun as theres so much room for funny and epic moments with that race.

This building could go underground as to not be a giant 4 story obnoxious thing sitting there. Id rather it not make the temple or the monastery look bad nor would i want the library to stick out like a sore thumb. Architecturally it would be just like the temple and monastery.

On a side note: We could have in game books for new players to use as starter guides. (Like the basic commands like /setname /register) We could also have versions for each race so they have an in-game reference to a general idea of their main city, leaders, and enemies.

Imagine: "A brief history of Elves" etc...

Now as far as why I'd like to add this: I have hundreds of generic and some not so generic stories that I've used in various RP settings. (Mostly D&D type things). These stories could easily be altered to fit the Aegis world and I could even replace names to famous heroes and villains from our own lands. Obviously each race could have its own thing going on, and submissions from anyone could be accepted and each author would receive credit. With so many books already in game the chance of one getting deleted or lost is great. This library would be a solid "backup" of all the players complete works! To prevent my name being everywhere, I could simply have fake author names on any book (more NPCs with lore ;) )I write or simply write "Anonymous" or not have an author name.

On another side note: There would have to be a submission process to make sure folks aren't having books entitled "LOLLORE" and filled with "OMGBBQPANCAKES" jokes. The library would mostly display significant works, and some plain fun stories etc.

These books wouldn't be for sale, but people could read them in house. This makes it so folks selling books can profit from people that might want to keep their favorites on hand, and authors who want to sell can do so. Any author could opt NOT to have their books on record at the library.

Now the reason I want this said job is that I don't really fit into any role that is combat or gathering oriented. But I'd love to spend my time writing histories and stories of our own players for storage into the library itself. I know someone mentioned that we had two small libraries in Lauralin but they are lacking badly and there isnt always someone around to help. Its a somewhat easy job to watch over the place, and would be neutral to prevent griefing of any sort.

Where I come in is that I can add a great many different books, monitor the reading areas and making sure the plugins are working ok, and could have a "job" and get paid a little minas for it. (nothing extraordinary). If possible, a very humble room to sleep in would be nice as upkeeping the library anytime im online would be my priority thus living there would be nice.

Building this library would be up to whomever built the Temple itself. I like to build, but honestly a main lobby and then 4 floors that are pretty is all thats needed and Id rather it remain consistent with those buildings. I could take care of the shelving and signage after that. If the library needed to we could expand (since each floor is underground) quite a bit.

My passion for writing music and written word is a big hobby of mine and would be a great creative outlet in game for me. As well as helping develop lore extensively, it would help create another place for folks to have some alternative roleplay that doesn't involve combat.

I really hope folks find the idea to be useful. Otherwise Im looking at a very long experience gathering books and writing them without a solid distribution method. *crosses fingers*

It'd be the perfect quest hub as well.

Where players go to read and research about artifacts, quests and pilgrimages.

A place where players can sell books for some Mina.

Honestly i'd rather the already open bookstores be able to sell books. Otherwise it would alienate shop owners and thats exactly what i dont want.

However quest books are perfect. Some books could be "legends" such as locations of artifacts, famous weapons, magic items, armors, etc.

What all does it take for this to get approved?

I support a public library,

Shelves that enable reading/copying, but not retrieving books would be required.

I wouldn't mind being able to visit a library that has a large selection of books to read. I support this idea, my character and I both have a love of books.

One thing I'd like to suggest is that each floor has architecture or decorations that corresponds with each race. For example, Elves would obviously be woodsy and nature-y. I think that'd be interesting.

Though I think a single theme that carries throughout the whole library would be fine too.

Chairs, lounge and study areas would be nice, with the desks made from hatches and fences like so: (two designs I came up with on my test world)

I'm very partial to the corner desk myself.

I really appreciate all the support! Those tables look wicked, i dont know why I've never tried to make tables like that.

The "themes" for each race is a good idea but the more I think about it, the more I think that maybe each race with a separate floor is a little much. Possibly just having multiple floors with each race having at least a section devoted to its particular writers.

Filling a floor with Orc writing would be quite a challenge in truth.

Anyway, Availer if its ok with you, let me know what you need to get things rolling (if you need anything from me.)

I totally support this. A grand library would be a fantastic idea as a source of in-game lore and information, not to mention a wonderfully atmospheric place in general. If you can do it, I think you should.

Great! Great idea! As long as books could be copied poeple could buy books they want from book sellers and the market wouldn't crash.

Availer,

What is needed from me to get this project started? I can make a mock up of a library if need be and post screenshots.

I'm not too sure, if you want to do it in the wilds, perhaps to donate for a plot. If you want it in a city, simply buy the plot.

Cloud Temple Library is now under construction!

Im heading to bed now, howevever I plan to have the library finished by at the utmost latest: Monday Night.

With some luck I can get a majority of it done by tomorrow night.

Here is a photo of what I am "planning" to use as a rough idea once you walk downstairs and into the library proper.

This floorplan allows for 2 levels of books, a downstairs center area with desks/lobby, and if need be later on we can add "wings" branching out.

I believe we will have a fantastic library here in a couple of days!

Library is the exact thing that will make me personally completely happy. I have a project of my character's future as archaeologist/writer, so it'll be verily splendid!
