Kublai sits amongst the thickening haze of an embalming summer day in the midst of a thick forest wrought with the undergrowth and lichen that is typical for a boreal forest. With a winged helm in hand as he traces his fingers along the engraved designs that were etched by the blacksmith who produced the wings crudely and with a zeal to issue a newly seen design. He sits amongst the ferns and remembers his past, one filled with triumph seasoned with occasional loss. Remembering how Gaius had recruited him from a dainty farm in the east of Oren, smiling as he remembered the day when he raised pitchfork against sword in the boot-shaking fear as he observed a mass of bodies emerge from the forest as if they were camouflaged; accompanied with a trill that sent shots up his spine and tortured his ear at the surprise of it all.

He twists one of his knees upward and places a palm upon the erect knee to stand himself up, observing the very forest from which they came. Smirking to himself, he took into account the many battles he had fought alongside what had become infamously called 'the Black Cross'. He remembered his first skirmish, the buckling of his knees to his newly found weight as men in mail came crashing downhill only a few miles from where he was standing. The clash of swords sounding like the rhythm of a caravan traveling in the desert, he remembered his first blood and how determined he and his fellow brethren were in the security of their General; their Hochmeister.

With a more observant and self-induced thought, Kublai thinks of the time they had faced the Undead for the first time. Despite their Hochmeister's glad tidings as he hearkened them to a successful campaign, Kublai remembered observing the doubtful and frightened faces of some of the Sariants as they took in the fact that they were to face such legendary enemies. During this campaign, the Hochmeister had drilled his Sariants to become mixed-arm combatants, able to use both sword and the bow to see that they would be able to fight the Undead in more than one circumstance. Remembering the ache of his arm as he repeatedly notched arrow into the sinew draw of the bow, Kublai chuckled as he remembered his first successful blow to the Undead; an arrow to the knee.

A successful campaign it truly was, with the Hochmeister personally confiscating the body of the Overlord at the time; albeit the name they could never truly identify although many proclaimed him as Brevias. Even the stormy cumulus spat forth lightning could not scar the charge of the ever more infamous Teutonic Order; the rain of fire only served to heat and fortify the steel so gloriously beaten by the blacksmiths of the Order. For such an endeavor, the Sariants were merely disappointed that the blood drawn had no good quality, blood of a heartless and soulless servant nonetheless they realized.

So with these thoughts, Kublai felt soundly about the need that his own brethren pursue their success against the Undead with even more triumphs, that the rise of their own civilization will see to their required needs to pursue such total war will be sated.

Also, a military campaign is not just a battle firespirit, I described that Brevias was killed by Gaius, which is true...)
