Renatus Citizenship

*A letter is found on the desk of Eze'kiel Tarus*

Seeing as how many people now associate things done in Renatus as being done by citizens of Renatus, I have an idea. A clear cut citizenship. Anything done by someone who isn't a citizen of Renatus should not be pinned on us, since they are not part of our nation.

Requirements:

  • A house in a city of Renatus. Inn rooms do not count unless it is a permanent room. All deeds to the home must be presented to the council when applying for citizenship. ((Highly advised that you have a last name, prevents ambiguity.))
  • Pledge undeniable loyalty to Renatus and the Crown. You may be loyal to another nation, but Renatus must come first. Should you be found guilty of treason, citizenship will be revoked, and the right to be tried by the court is revoked.
  • Have spend 1 year in Renatus ((1 real life week))
  • Pay taxes. If you do not pay taxes for an elven week, you are put on citizenry probation, and if still not for another elven week, you are no longer a citizen.

Benefits of being a citizen:

  • Proper trial by a court.
  • Lower taxes than a non-citizen
  • Protection from the army, even if not in a city. Protection only extends to nation's borders
  • Access to banks, if any banks are set up.
  • May be promoted higher into the military. Citizens may become lieutenants or higher.
  • May hold a government position
  • May hold a public position

Note: As a citizen, please do not stir up trouble for your nation.

Non-Citizens:

  • Military trial, not a trial by judges
  • Higher taxes on homes/shops
  • Only protected in cities
  • May not hold a government position or a public position
  • May be part of the army, but can only advance to sergeant rank

All laws still apply for non-citizens and citizens!

How to apply:

  1. Meet all the requirments
  2. Arrange a meeting with a council members. Maybe assign some people in the government the job of screening citizens.
  3. Be given citizenship proof ((Book))

Home deeds can be paper proof ((books)) or vouchers, such as your innkeeper.

Point of this? So when people do malicious stuff in our cities, people can differentiate between an action done by Renatus people or just travelers.

Remember, this is all just an idea! It is not official!

((Honestly, people will claim Galahar did whatever troll happened even if they know Galahar didn't do it.))

Hmm... well, I volunteer as Royal Scribe to be in charge or work on this system. I think that it has potential to prevent further trouble.

I believe this kind of idea can work once our nation is fully established. This will also help with record keeping on the population of our nation.

I find this a very desirable idea for keeping order once the capital is constructed. I would go one step further and have passports ((books)) for each citizen to provide as identification.

This is certainly an idea that shall be brought up at the next council meeting which will be quite soon.

Well, if this becomes official, I'd gladly like to become a citizen of Renatus!

In the idea, they do get citizenship proof. We can name them passports if you want

The passports could of course include date of birth, eyecolour, haircolour, race and gender to counter stolen personalities. They could also tell the noble title which would be needed for high positions and noble homes.

((All passports should be written by one or two people, and you could use their author mcname as a 'seal'

edit; forgot ooc brackets))

((Good idea but this is an IC thread so use brackets. BTW: Where is our new capital?))

One morning, Tylos heard a man talking about the note he had read while he was in the king's office. Most just questioned why he was in the kings office and walked off but Tylos listened. After Tylos heard everything, he walked away shaking his head because he hated the idea.

I'm technically a civilian and I'm a private...

I believe those who lived in Renatus before we came to Aluson, should have citizenship, this includes soldiers and nobles. People who try to live here may do so, but will not have the rights of citizens.

((is renatus performing the same in Alras, in that if you had a home in Aegis, you will own a home in Asulon? ))
