Hello my fellow orcs. I am Zar'Zak. I have been wandering around the warnations new capital and i have been wondering something oocly. Are there any orc alchemists? Cause i have noticed the hut with the alchemy workbench in it, but it looks as if no one lives there yet.

Also on a related note. If one were to become an orc alchemist would one need to become a shaman? Cause doing the alchemy would be something i am interested in and Zar'Zak icly is courious about the cauldron in the hut. Anyways thought i would ask other members of the war nation. I figure my big blue orc might be more useful as something other than another raider/hunter guy.

First off, if your Orc is a raider/hunter guy and has no prior experience what-so-ever with alchemy, do not become an alchemist just for the hell of it, it would make for terrible RP.

That set aside, what many people do not understand is that Shamanism=/=Magic and vice versa. Most Shamans have a degree of magic in use, but it isn't a necessary part of what they do. Similarly, it is possible to be a magic wielding Orc without being related to Shamanism. So no you would not need to become a Shaman first. A Shaman could certainly teach you, but that it's not physically impossible for an Orc to learn to brew potions without also being a shaman.

For the most part the Orcs brewing potions will be shaman however, both culturally speaking and hopefully practically speaking in game.

Thank you for the reply, I see your point about that making terrible RP. But allow me to rephrase. He's not so much a raider or hunter... more an adventurer. He just has most of his skills in swords, but little in anything else so he still has room for skill growth.

Icly he is curious about the brew stand and the cauldron as I’ve said. But i digress it was just a thought, and i wanted to know about it more from a cultural standpoint for orcs first before making a decision on that. I'll probably let it drop if i can't convincingly do it right. Anyway thank you very much. :-)

You could work on that curiosity - take it a step further and have him ask around the capital about it. If others know how to use it - ask if he could watch at first - then see if the other would allow him to mix one up etc - work up to being able to being an alchemist if this is what you think your char might want to get into.

It would make a great RP if you went about this way.

Thank you, I may just do that. :)

Just one suggestion, if your going to learn alchemy then you need to learn from someone who already knows. Some shamans do have the knowledge on it. Just ask around someone is bound to tell you.

All shamans should know it. If not I wrote a book which I can copy and give out.

Well Syrilas female lifemate Tassel knows how to make speed and strength potions, and ahes fiddling around with others, maybe once we have a way to get netherwart we can do something with that. Mirabelle is Syrilas half sister so they might have brief contacts.. I need to write out a way for that knowledge to spread..

Anyway, once Tassel gets set in, maybe you two could get to small talk and the subject of going stronger or faster could come up. But as always, it needs RP out the rear.
