Exactly why it's big. It seems that part there consists of only the furnace and workspace, not the full shop. However I really can't tell.. hmm..

I didn't really thought about that... Maybe you could move the furnaces to the back and make a storage cellar behind the pillar, you can see a little cobble. Then you could like half it up with wood and make a counter.
