How To Obtain Your Skin Screenshot!

Note: I'll tidy this up in a bit. iPod's aren't exactly great for formatting.

It appears a lot of applicants to the server, are unsure of what the 'skin in the proper format means', and either don't give a skin, or post the skin.png.

By skin in the proper format, we want an in-game screenshot of the skin you will be playing. You can obtain such, by doing the following:

- Open Minecraft after you have applied your roleplay skin to your account, via minecraft.net

- Go into a single player world

- Find a clear area, so we can see a clear view of your skin.

- Double tap F5 so you get a clear view of the front of your character.

- Hit F1 to disable the GUI

- Hit F2, which takes a screenshot.

- Close Minecraft

You now have your screenshot, but it's hidden away inside files. To get the screenshot, you must then:

Windows Vista / Windows 7

- Open windows explorer, by opening My Documents / Pictures etc.

- Type %appdata% in the address bar, an hit enter.

- Once loaded go to /roaming/.minecraft/screenshots

- Find your screenshot

- Copy and paste it to your dekstop

Windows XP

- Go to ApplicationData/.minecraft

- Go to the screenshots folder

+ Copy and paste your screenshot to your desktop.

Mac OS X:

~/Library/Application Support/.minecraft/screenshots

Linux:

~/.minecraft/screenshots

You now have your skin, in a screenshot clearly showing for us. We can't see it on your PC though, so:

- Upload the screenshot to a image sharing website, (e.g. Imgur,Imageshack, Tinypic, Photobucket.)

- Take the BB / Forum code from there! It will be written like

[img=imgur.com/826kh]

- Paste the BB code onto your applIcation form where it asks for your skin.

And there you have it! You've managed to get your skin. Now - go finish the rest of your application.

Note that the file locations are only for Windows, and the /roaming/ only applies on Windows 7 and Vista. Other than that, useful guide for those who don't know. Maybe people will stop uploading their skin in their applications.

As XP it's just Application Data/.minecraft

Not sure about the others.

Typing %appdata% into the address bar works on XP as well, for the record. You can use the same method, except skip the /roaming bit. Sorry, just being pedantic <3

I need to find out the other OS' paths now,

OS PATH'S: Go to the name of your account in finder, then to library. Application support. Then to minecraft. Then to screenshots.

Also, don't forget that now MC has the new "superflat" world option. This might be a better pick, than having obnoxious mountains in the background.

-Open Minecraft

-Click Single Player

-Create new world

-Other Options (forget the name of this button)

-World Generation to "Superflat"

Now, I did this off the top of my head, so the names of specifically the last two might be different.

I did use that at one time to attain a screenshot of my skin. I found a better tool that works well. It's a tool where all you have to do is enter your username and you can save it to your desktop.

Click Here (WARNING:This tool is owned/hosted by another server if you don't want players accessing this tool please take this like and reply down.)

I hope this helps.

I will also point out that you don't have to take screenshots in game.

Sites such as Novaskin and minershoes can be used. Where you type in your MC name and it renders the skin.

I also have a program called Minecraft Skin Viewer which works the same way.

When using any of these, my suggestion is to upload using imgur, or attaching to the post.

DO NOT post your actual skins...

Edit: I'm also pinning this and editing it into the application, so there is no reason to not attach an image.

HOKAY. I'mma make the Mac side of this a bit more complicated.

Macs' F keys are bound to things like brightness and dashboard and whatnot. To do any of the F-key functions described by the OP on a Mac with these built-in key bindings, simply hold down the function key before pressing F-whatever. Function is the key at the very bottom left of the keyboard that says "fn".

Now here's where it gets real fancy.

As of OS Lion, the Library folder is hidden by default. This a royal pain in the beard, I know, but here's how you fix it:

Open up terminal. It should be under utilities, or you can just search for it. (The magnifying glass at the top right of your screen.)

There are two commands you can use.

chflags nohidden /Users/<Username>/Library

(In this, <username> should be replaced with your username for your computer. If you don't know your username, just use the other command.)

OR

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

LINK to source / more help

Either will work. Once you've typed that in, press enter. It should unhide your library folder, at which point you can get to it from the finder, and by extension, the screenshots folder. If it doesn't work, type it again. Remember the spaces, and all the punctuation is necessary. Type it exactly as written here, no extra slashes or anything.

(This will undo itself every time you update your OS, or at least it does for me. So keep this in mind.)

I know a lot of mac users know these things already, but we gotta look out for those who don't. c:

I have a question... do you know how to minimize the size... not size >.< to make the file smaller?

EDIT: nvm I figured it out...
