rukio 8924 Share Posted August 21, 2012 #Superiorety Complex Meh, no convincing people who go off gut feelings. I wasn't being sarcastic, if you think I was, I apologize. Humor does not translate well when written. The corgi thing was all humor, I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, who essentially owns me. So I constantly joke about worshipping corgis in real life. The satan thing, well, what can I say? I don't take people seriously when they state that they are the child of a non human....-shrugs-

It causes stigma and more seriously wars and 'I KEEL IN NAME OF GAWD' scenarios.

It causes stigma and more seriously wars and 'I KEEL IN NAME OF GAWD' scenarios. Those scenarios are puny compared to all the good that has come from religion -people have an established set of morals -People have positive and negative incentives for following these morals -People who follow religion closely are loving, moralistic people who try to better themselves

Yes it causes war, but there are also a lot of charities that churches do, a church near me supports several different missionaries, who go to places like Africa and help them build homes and the essential stuff, they also support a few kids in India, paying for the school stuff and I think food and clothes, not sure about the last two though. An older lady down the street, her church has a group she is in that makes quilts for orphanages and places that really need them. Religion can be useful, some religious people do try to help other humans. :)

Religion has also brought millions together, kept people from suicide, or the criminal life. It gives hope to those willing to believe when their life is bad. And it does so much good charity wise. Isn't doing good all that religion wants? Yes, it has caused so much death and destruction, violence. Some might say it caused more bad than good. Also, I love Corgi's :D Edit: I am in no way religious, I am simply stating observations and facts.

Watyll 1104 Share Posted August 21, 2012 "I’ve never seen faith move mountains, but I’ve seen what it can do to skyscrapers." Those people follow a twisted version of a noble faith. They are not religious, do not bring them into this discussion.

This is stemming off of the main debate, but what if those people have a 'guy feeling' that killing these merican'a is what their god wants?

I have to raise an eyebrow at this. No, this is not a gut feeling that something loving is there. This is a deep, racial hate.

Levitucs: "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Plus there's this: "Like Christians, Muslims also hold a variety of views about homosexuality. In many countries under Sharia law, such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, Yemen, and Sudan, homosexuality is punishable by death, and public violence against gays is very common." This is not taking anything out of context. This is people following their religious books 100% as it's written. Personally, I was expelled from my school and lost nearly all my friends by announcing my bisexuality. Religion for ya, folks.

Ever 2648 Share Posted August 21, 2012 Okay...I fail to see how this relates to creation vs evolution. Because more often than not, a belief in a creator is coupled with being religious.

Watyll 1104 Share Posted August 21, 2012 Ok, I get that you've had some bad stuff happen to you. Well, it isn't religions fault. Besides, what will be the worst that happens? You move to a different school?
