I disagree with Ned. Materialism isn't the sole source of our problems. I firmly stand by the fact that it's because of map size. I have actively tried to do things in the world, but I am physically unable to just login and "do" something of any substance. Before we could login for 30 minutes and start a riot on the Highway with pinkies banging on the gates. In Asulon 30 minutes will get you to spawn and a stack of food spent. The materialism is actually the same as Aegis. Armor is just as important as it was before. Actually, because of how punishing the food system is it makes the map size even worse. In Aegis the increased food depletion wasn't so bad because we didn't move around as much. Asulon is so big we have to move all the time. So the map size actually makes one of the current issues even worse. I would love to go around and poke fun at the other nations (like we did back in Aegis) but I would actually have to deplete our supply of food to accomplish this. That's not fair to the other people that want to venture out and find roleplay. I feel our strength as orcs was always the ability to just start fun conflict at will. Walking into the human city and shoving people around. Farting and spitting at Elves. Petting Dwarves and making fun of their stature. I feel we've been forced into isolation because of the map layout. Because of the server mechanics (not PvP) grinding resources is now actually required to roleplay. We have to grind food so we can actually go participate with the world.

Which is why I am so in favor of Urara's mass-transportation node idea. Turning our spawn-fort into a transport hub that connects us to various regions will obliterate travel time to locations. We will once again be able to go places and interact with other nations. It will virtually shrink the map down to a manageable size so that we can interact with other nations. I don't think our problem as Orcs lies in lack of events or things for us to get together, we have plenty of that. It lies in our lack of ability to create conflict. We tried warring with the dwarves, and the battles themselves were fun. Getting to the dwarves? That lasted as long as the damn battle itself, if not longer. We spent more time trying to wrangle our group together and heard ourselves over the 10-20 min trek to the dwarf city for a battle which lasted no longer than that. Yes it was a lot of fun, but we couldn't do that more than once every one or two weeks at most. We couldn't physically produce the food it would require to make regular raids against the dwarves a reality. It's not like we are the only ones missing out either. The dwarves had a ton of fun defending against us in the battle, but some ended up leaving before we arrived because of how late we were. It just took that long.

If we set up camps outside every city, we should all move camp every week or so, so we have the enitre city moving. keep all our valuables safely in the city, this way our nomadic behavior would be possible and give us a chance to rp with other nations

I know for a fact that the food supply isn't the problem - the orc nation has more then enough food in storage alone never mind the fact that the fields and animals are harvested almost every day. It maybe you didn't carry enough food on you or you don't like how much inventory space it takes up or the fact that you had to go all the way into the valley to get your rations but the supply of food isn't the problem. Please don't say it is.

Jutra and Jarkarll are on vacation - Jarkarll has his own reasons if he wants to discuss it's up to him. My reasons are varied. I'm not going to go into them as that involves naming names and I refuse to do that. The end result is that I was feeling unappreciated and so since I was so easily replaceable I left. The fields are still being harvested so yeah you will not starve.

The nation needs a leader the orcs believe in and respect. ( I mean this in a general sense not directly at Pok) I know Rp wise it's the faster clicker gets the Rex but OOC'ly if folks don't think you're serious or capable of actually leading the nation then you won't get folks wanting to play thier orc chars.

What you need to decide is what's more important - RPing with Pinkies or RPing with other orcs. While I was in the valley - there was tons of RP there. Poor Jarkarll use to complain that there were always strange orcs in our house. And he was right.

When we got the orc camp near the temple, the RP in the city hit rock bottom. Everyone was at the camp. The same thing will happen when you make up a fast travel hub. Sure you get to where your going quicker but at what cost? The city will remain a ghost town due to all the orcs being everywhere but at the city.

The answer.... I outlined it in this post here . Constant and consistent RP events and routines. Make the ones with the titles do something or lose the titles. And again as much as it makes sense RP wise to let the fastest clicker win - OOCly we know that doesn't make you a great leader or event planner or organizer - the orc's need to review this or you will lose more citizens.

I love cliches they say things so well: "Success comes before work only in the dictionary."

Jutra is right. I was in support of the outpost at spawn because I assumed that we'd be there for the majority of our time, as it'd be closer to spawn and we'd see tons of roleplay if we were there. However, the lack of opportunity for actual roleplay at the camp caused me to lose favor for it (it'd essentially be spawn-roleplay, consisting of people being random and semi-trolly). I do not believe that having camps everywhere and switching between them is the correct idea, yet I do think that having fast travel all over the place is. If we simply set up horse/caravans at each major location in Asulon, then that's all we need in terms of connecting us.

Otherwise, we need to move away from our focus on PvP. As much fun as PvPing is, we are all here to roleplay. We consistently defend the orc race, saying that we are not focused on PvP, yet we allow our leader to be determined by PvP. (Watch as Goldrim becomes the Julius Caesar of Rex-dom). During peak hour, we are usually all in teamspeak laughing and derping around, and not roleplaying, like the Orcs have a case of the hoppers. We'll be jumping around wherever we stand then klomp for a bit then continue. If all we do, for now, is klomp, then why not do it in roleplay? This would not only enhance our own roleplaying skills, but we'd have others watching. Then they'd speak in roleplay. Then it'd snowball.

The key is to not worry about attacking others. We need events, and internal conflict. Conflict amongst ourselves, ICly, will always be infinitely be better than conflict with another group (see: Salvus war). Stealing mates, concubines, slaves. Petty rivalry and competition. Maybe a rogue clan? As for events, military is an extremely rich source of roleplay if done correctly. If a Targoth isn't creating roleplay, replace them. Same goes for Rex. If we are not seeing interesting events happening on a regular basis, then switch them out.

The Orcs have plenty of people able to lead and create fun roleplay, we just need to be ready to switch people out and see where everybody is best, as well as take initiative.

The issue with internal conflict is that the orcs have their honour system. On top of that, you'll never get the same degree of conflict in humans because it all has to be "reversible" in a sense. We need to be able to "make up" to each-other after the conflict, so it can't be something unforgivable. Healthy competition is the only way I can see this happening: A new Rex is crowned, and the clans struggle to win his favour, or something.

In all honesty, talking isn't going to get anything done. We need to just log in, and RP in the city.

Jutra, I think the amount of that would be spent is really more of an added pain rather than the main problem. Our biggest issue is that there is a 30 min travel time associate with a raid only that long. Additionally, odds are against us actually winning these raids due to equipment shortages and numbers being against us. If we try to sustain our habits in Aegis (where we were making trouble on a daily basis, either by tolls or with raids) we would have something like 5-10 Orcs consuming 80-160 units of bread (I spend about 16 units average walking to any given location. Walking by the way, which means more travel time in order to conserve food) or 160-320 units if we decide to sprint-jump the whole way, only to come back with nothing to show for it, maybe a set of diamond armor if we are exceptionally lucky, but more than likely any rewards we manage to scrounge will be iron tier, which is worthless at the moment.

Essentially if we tried to do these things daily, you could probably support our food habits with some hard work, but we would be getting nothing to show for it. That isn't really a problem, hell I honestly wouldn't care about that at all. If your work load became too great I would honestly consider grabbing a second MC account to train as a farmer and help you. Or taking these 75 skill points I have saved up and throw them into farming just so I can help.

The real problem is that I am walking 30 mins just to fight for no longer than that. That 30 min walk sucks, especially when I am trying to wrangle in half a dozen Orcs who can very easily get lost (hell I might be getting lost myself). When you stack this with "Yea you are consuming about 80-160 units of bread and will have nothing to show for it" it's a little disheartening.

So we don't mean to imply that food is the problem, it most certainly is not, it's just one more thing on a list of issues the larger map brings to us. Issues that are easily solved with a network of fast travel points.

That's how it was in Aegis though. Sanjezal was a ghost town only used for special occasions. The vast majority of the time the orcs hung out in Sanhar, or at Fort Krug, both right near spawn. It never caused issues back in Aegis, and the issues only seemed to arise once we changed paradigms. That's the big point I've been trying to make. These issues are recent to extended time in Asulon. So logic tells me that we should look back at what made for healthy RP in Aegis, and try to fix those elements lost now. I feel the elements that actually made orc roleplay fun for not only us, but others on the server is now lost. Being able to playfully harass people on the road, and start small conflicts. We never went on full scale warfare in Aegis (or not very often). Most of our roleplay consisted of chasing pinkies out of our land, and going into pinkie land to harass them. Being able to just login and say "Ug, Thore. Lat want to gu punt de stuntees?" Then go mess around in the Dwarf city for 30 minutes to an hour interacting with them.

-snip-

yes, this is what I meant, I'm sorry if that wasn't clear. After I came back Blawharag, Urara, (a few other orcs), and I started trying to go on raids more regularly. Just to spark some conflict. That's when I quickly realized how taxing that would be. The reason our chests are full is because we don't go and do those things. After the 2nd or 3rd raid it was pretty easy to see the consumption rate. That's coupled with the long travel times. Which goes back to my main point. The RP that made LOTC fluid and engaging was that the world felt alive. Being able to just meander around as a small troupe of orcs and just spark some conflict. We can't find other races without investing 30+ minutes, and we couldn't do that on a daily basis (with a large group).

I can't even describe how much I hate walking everywhere. At the beginning, when I first came back, I dreaded dying just because I'd have to hike back on that long-ass stupid road.

One solution might be to seal off orcs in their nation, yes. That's forced proximity, which is part of what made Aegis good. And I'm trying to start something of a tradition with my upcoming Hellghaash Triulz. It's true the orc leaders will need to take initiative to go create RP. But we can't rely solely on the leaders to do these things.

I spent a good chunk of time in Aegis bothering pinkies. If the desert was empty, I'd hop over to Malinor or to Alkhazar. Then I'd start shouting in the square or piss in the fountain or go poke King Edmund or get caught snooping around Native's house. That was 50% of the fun of being an orc. What's the point of hating pinkies if you can't hate them directly to their faces? But now 50% of the fun's gone or difficult to reach. We could start focusing more on Orc RP, yeah, but our population's low and, most of the time, when I log into Strigzgoi, I don't see a soul.

Here's what I propose: a mix of both.

We'll set up our fast travel to make bothering the pinkies and fuzzies easier. But we'll also hold regular events like the Hellghaash trials to encourage orcish RP.

I feel Urara also made an excellent point that I didn't cover. We can do both.

That's one of the reasons I loved Thore's idea. Setting up an arena in the new camp (or anywhere with fast travel) would make arena fights actually possible. Just klomping with each other can attract the attention of others and create RP. Going back to my previous example, it happened all the time in Aegis.

ok - so let's review.... the problem is.... the orcs are too far away from everyone to enjoy the way we use to RP? Have I got it?

If so then the solution is rather obviouse.....

MOVE THE ORC CAPITAL!

Will it be easy to do? Nub!

Why don't we move the capital to the closest point ralative to the other nations?

How or why ICly we do it is just details- if we want it, and it improves RP on the server it should be done.

Get NekoDanie's dragon in here, destroy Strigzgoi, we pick up the pieces and move closer.

Done! :D

Closer to which city though? Everyone is far away from everyone lol. Now destroying all the capital cities and pushing them closer together, that idea has a lot of merit to it...

If we are going to move the capital, it should be to that desert next to Alras. Close to Alras, close to spawn (relatively) and still in a desert.

Who's to say we can't have a world shaking event that forces everyone closer together?

Isn't Asulon supposed to be corrupted too? Create a massive earthquake that creates huge chasms and forces everyone to pick up and move.
