So... Is it possible to reassign the attributes of ale to potions? That way we can get wasted by "health" potions. Or even better, use straight up poison. That way you get drunk and messed up whenever you drink it.

Try this. Make vodka from wheat and fermented spider eye. Make it a poison of weakness (too bad you can't add positive effects too). That way we rp it's alcohol but it would still have in game effects.

This would work for the hard cider or rum too. We have apples, we have sugar. Think about it.

16x buttons:

It's kinda lame that TWO WHOLE BLOCKS of stone are required to make a single button. 16 buttons seem like a more realistic result.
