Diri/GreenKoopaBros 58 Share Posted June 12, 2012 Wow Nander, You look like Gandalf! And I don't think that's an axe that you are holding. But, as a person who splits wood in the winter, I have to differ from your views. Making anything out of wood, requires skill. Even chopping the wood, you have to know where and how to chop it, or you just end up with uneven pieces with a lot of wasted splinters. But, This new skill system allows for a LOT better rp. This means that, if you actually need good sticks, planks, tools, then you will go to the right person that can make them and pay/barter with them for the job. TheNander 241 Share Posted June 12, 2012 I shouldn't have to pay someone to turn my logs I already have and make them into planks. People split planks into logs to use in furnaces. Its a common household job for some people. Chopping existing logs like these: http://zinnoslandscapingllc.com/web_images/firewood.jpg into planks like these: shouldn't be a problem or a matter of skill. Ryn Chirr 224 Share Posted June 12, 2012 Couldn't find any logs, but I did find a weather treated fence post lying around. It's 7:48 and I was only out for a few mins and I was able to chop halfway through it. I didn't want to disturb my neighbors. I might continue tomorrow when everyone's at work. Pics in spoiler: You sir, have the balls.
TheNander 241 Share Posted June 12, 2012 You sir, have the balls. I go all out when trying to prove a point of realism. Just ask Seventh.
Old-Rattlesnake 1534 Share Posted June 12, 2012 Every single building project in the Nawari has been shut down because of this. We can't make chests, and we can't make stone tools (that won't break in a SINGLE use). We just got STARTED with building so god knows what else we're no longer able to make or use.
TheNander 241 Share Posted June 12, 2012 There should be a vote before anything is added. If the community wants it then it should be added. If the community hates it with a burning passion then it should be removed/not added. It's the community that funds the server, and therefore should be tailored to the community.

Diri/GreenKoopaBros 58 Share Posted June 12, 2012 Nander, this only further proves my point. If you "Didn't" know the proper way to prepare the wood, you would only be wasting it. Or, if you aren't patient enough or have the money to pay for the service, then just burn the logs like a normal person would. As Vaq said in the new update, he is trying to make a more Rp friendly environment. Can't you see that a skill system like this is going to create jobs? Actual shops other than item, grocery, or blacksmithing. I can see Craft shops, Furniture makers, Bakeries (aka, cakes)! Don't you understand? You can't make the logs into sticks since you don't have the proper knowledge (skill number) to, so you would do the smart thing and have someone do it for you, so they can do it right. Casamir 42 Share Posted June 12, 2012 I'm with people on the skill reset, My character was a farmer (who focused on making bread) but now I need cooking ( which I am at level 0) to even make a living. I'm sitting at 273 out of 275 skills, and I also focus on archery for hunting game (I sell the raw meat) For people like me, I'm no longer able to make a living with my current skill set, and yes I could /delevel but then I might as well just be a new player grinding over from 0 as I would still have to sit and spend hours making bread to up my cooking to a point that I can actually sell bread. Edit: on a side note I absolutely love this, now there can be carpenter's guilds and such, to make homes for people! I just feel a skill reset (to help people rechoose, or narrow down their profession is in order) Other than that yes, I think you should need help to build anything honestly, When I needed a toy chest for my daughter did I make one? No cause I'm a crappy handy man so I bought one from the store. Same goes for my bed, my desk, I know I didn't build my own house either, even most of my food I buy from the store, I don't have farmland to farm nor the knowledge to do so. I do feel that cooking should be more of a very low chance to burn, and more of a you made one with a 50% chance or something, and then at higher levels you just yield more food per cooking. I mean after all, some food is straight forward to make (look at stuff like kraft dinner and other such things in real life)

Hmm, then maybe you stop being cheap and hire someone who "can"? I mean, do the Nawari not have money, or are they so stingy that they aren't willing to pay a person with the proper knowledge, like a normal person would, to do it better than you could. I'm starting to think that people aren't understanding the Purpose of this new Patch...

Casamir 42 Share Posted June 12, 2012 This is minecraft. They should be able to build their own place. This is Lord of the Craft and should be treated as a different entity, If anyone wants to play "minecraft" they are welcome to play on other non Rp servers in which they can, or even single player. However during the duration of their play time on this server, they are asked to handle and deal with things differently, I'd assume by now that this fact is rather clear and obvious.

I'm starting to think that people aren't understanding the Purpose of this new Patch... I can see this patch working if a skill reset became available to the players. You don't just, all of a sudden, make every single person's everyday work become impossible for them. Casamir and his post are an example of this. Oh, and are we cheap? We're gypsies. We live in tents, We're independent, and we are NOT sacrificing our RP as independent travelers simply because YOU apparently think we're cheap, uneducated, and not 'normal'. For god's sake we're upset because it's inefficient to make STONE TOOLS and CHESTS! These are BASIC necessities for not just survival, but Roleplay, and they're essentially unavailable to us.
Diri/GreenKoopaBros 58 Share Posted June 12, 2012 Then don't sacrifice anything, Make your character build enough skill to do the job. Why do you think that we have the /delevel command? You obviously aren't independent if none of you can do a simple job. Just pick people in your Troope to harness these skills so they become more of an asset to you? Get what I'm saying?
