Out-Of-Character

Minecraft Account Name: birdwhisperer

How old are you?: 18

Time-Zone/Country of Residence: EST/USA

Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: I do, indeed.

Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself: Just a girl who likes writing, acting, and everything fantasy. Also birds.

How much time could you be on the server weekly?: A few hours each night.

What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you: Roleplaying is taking on the personality of a made-up character and acting out that person's interactions with the world and other characters. It's like acting without a script, and writing for only your character.

What experience have you had in Roleplaying, if any?: I've been part of two Sci-Fi forum roleplays. I've also been on the server as a Wandering Soul, observing people roleplaying, so I guess that could count for something.

In your own Words, define what the act of Meta-Gaming is: Meta-gaming is when your character acts on information they have no way of knowing, or using OOC knowledge IC. It's okay to know things OOC, but it's important to separate what you know from what your character knows. An example of meta-gaming could simply be using the game mechanics, like nameplates or chunk errors, or it could be acting on something you read in the forums.

In your own Words, define what the act of Power-Emoting is: Power-emoting is acting in such a way that keeps other players from having a say in what is happening. It could be taking control of another person's character in the way you emote, like saying "Hrothgar shouts and everyone quiets down and pays attention." Or it could be not letting other people respond to something you do, like writing, "Hrothgar swings his axe and chops off Martin's head." It would be better to say, "Hrothgar shouts, trying to get everyone's attention." and "Hrothgar swings his axe towards Martin."

In your own Words, define what Out of Character (OOC) is: Out of Character is anything not related to what's going on in the roleplay world. Real life things. OOC conversation should be kept in the OOC channel and certain parts of the forum.

In your own Words, define what In Character (IC) is: In Character is when you act like your character, when you roleplay. This includes speaking as your character, and emoting.

What do you expect this server will be like?: A lot of fun, with great roleplay. I really like what I've seen as a Wandering Soul, too.

What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: Just a few small survival servers. This will be my first try with a roleplay server.

Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?: I have and I do.

Do you promise to abide by said rules, and laws? This includes the Server, Forum, and Teamspeak set Rules: I do.

How did you hear about us?: A youtube video about a roleplay wedding.

Have you previously made an Application? If so could you link us to your last Application?: This is my first time applying.

In-Character:

Character Name: Elorna Avern'khel

What Race are you? (You may only be Human, Orc, Elf or Dwarf!) : Elf

What Sub-Race are you? (note, you aren’t required to have a sub-race): Wood Elf

Biography (Please make this at least 2 paragraphs long. This must include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):

Elorna was born in a tent on the side of a road, to the elves Mayilu and Salumir. Her parents were performers, members of The Snowy Rose Troupe of traveling actors, singers, dancers, jugglers, and magicians. Mayilu was a very young singer and dancer, and Salumir was an acrobat who also led the troupe. He was reluctant to be a father at first, and his feelings did not improve when Elorna was born small and sickly. Still, Mayilu and the other performers did their best to make sure the child was loved.

At the age of four, Elorna became very sick. The troupe was on the road far from any city, and had no way of knowing what was wrong or how to help her. She did eventually recover, but was left totally blind. She was young, and didn't fully understand what had happened, but as she grew older she learned how to live a life in the dark. Her mother taught her to sing, and they started out with duets until Elorna was confident enough to sing in front of an audience on her own.

As the years passed Elorna grew into a young woman, still small for her age, with long brown hair, light skin, and hazy, pale eyes. She kept them covered with a blindfold most of the time, and her father began to call her Avern'khel: wanderer of darkness. She accepted the name happily, and did her best to carry herself with dignity and not be too dependent on others. She tried to keep to herself, and not be a bother, but there was only so much she could do on her own.

When she was sixteen the troupe passed through a village that had been seized by The Plague. They managed to leave as quickly as possible, but not before several of their group were infected, including Mayilu, Elorna's mother. Her father ordered anyone showing signs of the plague to be quarantined in separate tents, and for everything they touched to be burned. In just three agonizing days they had all died. The survivors were distraught, but managed to make their way to the next city for refuge. Elorna was consumed with grief for her mother, and if she could have seen her father's face she would have known that he was as well.

But all grief eventually passes, and life must continue, though many times it is left soured and scarred. Her father no longer tried to conceal the hate he felt for his useless offspring. Every night he threatened to abandon her on the roadside, and for three years she tried to quietly ignore him, using her silence as defiance. He wore down on her, until she couldn't help but scream back at him, and his threats grew worse.

One day the troupe was traveling through the Cloud Temple on the way to Arethor, and Elorna decided she would finally take her life into her own hands. She was going to leave, and return for the first time to the land of the elves. Some of the other performers tried to discourage her, fearing she would not be able to survive without them to help her. She simply told them that it would better for her to leave now, at a time and place of her choosing, than for her father to make good on his threats and send her out in an unfamiliar land. In the night she gathered her few possessions and slowly made her way to the Temple Sanctuary, following the feel of gravel and stone beneath her feet.

Not wanting to bear her father's surname, she calls herself Elorna Avern'khel. Here she stands in her darkness, listening and waiting for her story to begin.

What are your Character's ambitions?: To find her way to Malinor, and learn some skill so she can support herself.

What is your character’s favorite tool? (sword, pickaxe, shovel, etc): A long wooden stick, which she uses to keep from running into things.

What is one of your Character's most skilled talents? She's a pretty good singer, but she hopes to learn some more useful skill soon.

Other Information about your Character: She is totally blind, and I will be playing her that way as well as I can.

Open-Response-Questions

Each and every question must be answered with a minimum of a single full paragraph and entirely in RP.

Whilst traveling from the Cloud Temple you see a small halfling, being harassed by two armed warriors. They appear to be trying to steal money from him, how does your character respond?Elorna stops her slow walk down the path when she hears the sounds of clinking armor and two men jeering. She twists her cane into the ground nervously, sensing danger. The halfling cries out and she instinctively shouts, "Hey! What's going on?" There is silence, and she listens intently for some clue as to what's happening. She hears one of the armored men walk toward her and she takes a step back, wondering how well she'd be able to follow the road if she needed to run.

"What do you want?" she asked.

"Give us your money," the man says, his foul breath assaulting her nose.

"I have none," Elorna lies, "Why don't you rob someone who can actually fight back, you coward!"

She feels a heavy hand on her shoulder as it pushes her backwards. She tries to use her cane to steady herself but she still falls to the ground hard. Scrambling backwards she pulls out her small pouch of coins and throws it at where she thinks he might be.

"There, that's all I have!" she screams, holding her cane in front of her protection. "Leave me alone!"

The men laugh and begin to walk off. Elorna pushes herself to her feet and returns to the Cloud Temple as quickly as she can, making sure to tell everyone of the danger on the road.

Your character wanders into Alras, and comes across a small stall, behind which a well dressed man is standing. He’s offering various wares, the merchant turns to you and says in a posh accent " 'ello there, what can I do you for today?" What is your character response?

"Greetings," Elorna says, turning towards the man's voice. "Do you sell any food?"

"Hmmm..." the man mutters. She senses him move closer to her. "Yes, of course! In fact, I just got in this shipment of apples. Finest in the city, perfectly ripe and fresh! Just six minas!"

"May I see one?" she asks, holding out her hand.

"See...? Um, yes. Here you go." He places an apple in her hand. She rolls it around, pressing gently on it's skin, and finally holds it close to her face and sniffs it. She wrinkles her nose.

"This doesn't seem fresh," she says, searching about for the surface of the stall for a moment, then placing the apple back down upon it.

"Well, it's-" he begins, his voice like someone trying to defend himself. Elorna blocks him out and walks away from the stall. She smiles ruefully to herself. She didn't have any money to buy it with, anyway.

Whilst wandering in the wilds, your character comes across a small hut, which looks abandoned. Inside it you see a chest containing a few iron bars, and a golden sword. How would your character respond?:Elorna huddles inside the hut for the night, grateful for an escape from the cold. She finds the chest and feels around the inside, curious of it's contents. All she finds is a sword made of a strangely heavy and soft metal, and several bars of something just as heavy, but more solid. She ignores them, as they are of no use to her, although she does wonder if the bars are gold. When she feels the warm sun through the window she leaves the hut, hoping to find her way back to civilization.

Hungry and lost in the wilderness, you stumble across a small trading camp nestled among the forest, they greet you you in the common tongue, how do you respond?"H-hello?" Elorna says quietly as she steps toward the voice. She had heard the voices and tried to follow, though she didn't know what she would greet her when she found them. "Hello... friends? Please, could you spare some food? I have very little to repay you with, but I will try to. Please don't think me a beggar."

Elorna would then insist she try to pay them back for the food, either through trading with the few items she had, or by doing some kind of chore for them. Afterwards she would ask if they could point in the direction of the nearest city, or help her get to a path.

You hear word that bandits occupy the road outside the town in which you have been staying. The town guard have gathered, and are asking for assistance to help eliminate them. The leader of the party is offering a reward for any who offer their support. How does your character act on this information?:Elorna finds a corner to stand in while people bustle upon noisily, many men and women volunteering their service. "Good luck," she whispers quietly. Grabbing onto a fence-post, she finds her way to a tavern and waits with the others who stayed behind, praying for word of the fighters success or failure. Everyone was on edge, but Elorna's well trained ears were the first to hear the warriors returning, their shouts faint and distant, but quite obviously shouts of victory. "They've returned!" she said, and the tavern erupted into chaos as everyone scrambled for the doors and windows. Elorna remained seated, carefully listening.

Anything else you would like to say?: Thank you for your time!
