The Beginnings of the Clan
The sons of Urguan and the sons of Krug will always do battle; It was our duty since the fallen servant of the Brathmordakin, the accursed flame, Iblees, uttered his final vengeance upon this world as he was smote by the Gods and their servants. And fulfill our duty we did; in the fifty-ninth season since the beginning of the recording of time by the reckoning of the elves when we did enter into war with the uruk again. Here it is where our story begins. Deep in the earth at some outpost, long forgotten by the rest of dwarfdom. Here warriors and miners worked alongside to further the goals of a kingdom which had long since forgotten them. Little did we know that the uruk had found us; The tunnels filled with a stale air and a fell mood took all of us long before the snarling and war-horns could be heard. As the horde fell upon us our brothers and sisters fought valiantly against the uruk, but valor alone does not bring victory and one by one we fell, but I would not allow defeat. With what remained of my strength after endless hours in battle, I fought my way to the highest point in the cavern and swung my axe into the thick wooden beam that held the roof in place. Our kin saw what I did and they followed, no longer caring for survival or attacking the uruk, we attacked the very beams that prevented our untimely deaths. The uruk knew this too, but by this point there was nothing they could do. The tunnels came crushing down, the dust blinding and the sound deafening.

I slipped into darkness and begged for the Gods to take me. But that was note my fate. When I awoke, in a pool of my own dried blood our home was no more, what was once a mighty cavern was now rubble, stone upon stone, mighty roads reduced to naught more then rocky crawlspaces. I searched. The groaning of the dying all around, my brothers and my foes alike, but there was nothing I could do for them and even then, the groaning ended. My task was to find my death, but the Gods would not take me. Not yet. Pulled from the rock five of my allies and the bonds caused by bloodshed are as strong as those carried in the blood and from that moment forwards, we renounced our former ties and became one clan: Tunnelsmasher. All those who died in that forsaken place remain our kin in spirit.

-- Our Foundations [Clan Tome]; Bryth Tunnelsmasher-Irongut [Aegis Year 416]

Reformation of the Clan
Nearly a hundred and forty seasons on the original six Tunnelsmashers lay dead, their graves forgotten in Aegis and long ago desecrated by the taint of Iblees. The sons and daughters of this clan had long since spread thin and many uninitiated with their heritage. My father, Ralor, eldest son of Bryth, was the only of the children of the six who had the ability to restore the clan, he possessed the enchant book and he had himself wed a lass who was of full Tunnelsmasher blood, however, his dream never came to fruition, as he was slain by the uruk in the Great War of 1336. The book, along with any hope of restoring the clan passed onto me but I had no interesting in such things and I spent much of my youth in the human kingdoms engaging in 'unsavory' past-times. It was only in the past season that I realized that my father had gone to his grave expecting that when the clan was to reunite that I would be there with him; I finally dusted off the old book and placed my hand on the golden rune on the cover. The runic language that had previously filled the book became as clear as day and then I sent out summons for my son and cousin, knowing that the first step in restoring the clan was with them.

-- Our Return [Clan Tome]; Bael Tunnelsmasher [Asulon Year 43]

ltRaT.png
The clan does not have formal trials as is common with many other clans. One is either a Tunnelsmasher or not a Tunnelsmasher. To prove blood relation one must first associate their lineage with one of the original six by providing a written genealogy. Once this has been submitted and the clans elders are content to believe their blood relation, the applicant must 'touch the book' a process which involves touching the golden rune on the cover of the clan tome. If they are lying and not of the blood, the rune will react badly and burn the runic symbol for Tunnelsmasher onto their palm.

If one wishes to join but can not prove blood relation, they may be adopted in after completing an impromptu trial, which usually consists of a task made up by a clan elder on the spot. After this task is completed, the must touch the rune of conversion (after a clan elder has primed it) to alter their blood.

tJIKu.png
The clan tome is an ancient book enhanced with powerful runic magic, the origins of which have been lost in time. The book consists of two polished steel covers, each embossed with a large golden rune, the front carrying the rune for 'Tunnelsmasher' and the back cover the rune for 'Conversion'. In between the two covers is almost nine hundred pages of vellum, covered with an illegible runic script.

The book is vital to the clan as the rune on the front cover allows for recognition of the blood of the clan (as well as preventing theft by burning the hands of a would-be thief). The rune on the rear, when properly activated with a verbal command alters the blood of an individual who places their palm upon it. The remaining enchantments, consisting of smaller crimson and blue runes on the inside of the covers alter the book as new persons are adopted into the clan and translate the runic script into legible writing upon contact with a person possessing the blood of a clan member.

The pages of the book consist entirely of journal entries from the various members of the clan, genealogies and family trees. The book's value to the clan means it is generally kept under lock and key unless it is needed for the clans 'trials', in spite of its already impressive protection.

The Way of War
The six ancient founders of the Tunnelsmasher clan were almost all related to the art of war in some aspect, whether it be as warriors, blacksmiths or healers. This is the same blood that flows in the veins of every existing Tunnelsmasher. That being said, they have a proud military tradition and a history of serving with the legion (during its existence), however, one thing that stands out is the fact that the Tunnelsmashers as a whole have a high affinity for swords rather axes, unlike most of their kin.

PLE3N.jpg

Members of the clan also have a habit of taking grizzly trophies from the worthiest and strongest of their fallen enemies, in the form of decapitated heads. These are typically mounted on pikes on Tunnelsmasher lands or as decorative items for mantelpieces.

Smoking
Dwarves of the Tunnelsmasher clan have a certain affinity for smoking pipes and find the practice as a great way to calm their nerves and to relax. Tunnelsmashers settle for no less then the finest halfling pipeweed produced in the Vale and purchase barrels of it from the halflings.

Religion
The Tunnelsmasher clan reveres each of the the Gods of the Brathmordakin, but revere Grimdugan, Lord of Dread and Avarice especially. Yemekar is respected as higher the Grimdugan, but his veneration falls behind that of Grimdugan and Dungrimm. Dungrimm is known to be the keeper of the souls of the fallen dwarfs and the holder of the keys to finally joining the dwarfs chosen deity in the afterlife. Paragon worship is frowned upon although not forbidden. Worship of deities outside of the Brathmordakin is forbidden, not only by dwarfen lore, but by clan honor. Clanmates found breaking these rulings will be tortured before being handed over to the proper authorities.

"Yer Holiness, a notice fer ye."

Looking up from his desk in the depths of the Clergy's temporary Temple while Mount Ire was being worked on, the aging Holy Lord noticed his Steward, the Grandaxe, Rogan, standing at the door, letter in hand. Waving him over with a flick of his hand and a weary smile, Kazraden took the letter from him and picked up his monocle from his desk, reading the letter over slowly. Setting both the monocle and notice down, the Holy Lord penned a quick response to the Clan Thane.

"After speaking with ye about your possible candidacy for Prophet of Grimdugan, should you accept the position the Clergy would welcome your Clan in Khaz'Mordakhan upon it's completion, as well as provide you with a Hall befitting a Thane and Prophet with room for a Clan to grow. Should you be interested feel free to contact me in Ire.

Bael looks at Eorlund, raising one eyebrow and smiles, before giving him a friendly slap over the back of the head.

Yer luuk terrible cuzin. Git sum ale intu yer.

Pointing to a small footlocker, Bael also mentions for Eorlund to grab some money and buy a home in Kal'Dwain, preferable near his. He mentions nothing of becoming a priest. Thinking to himself, "Its a prophet dumbass".

To glorious cries of "BARMAN!" did the dwarfs of the Tunnelsmasher clan defend the puny humans of Arethor from an assault by an undead legion. Unfortunately, despite the constant cries for the barman, no ale was received for their efforts.

Bael nails in a notice in the clan hall in Kal'Dwain.

Dwain is being abandoned, we are all to move to Kal'Karik. Also, all of our number who are descended from Bryth are now dwarfs of the clan Irongut too. Those of our number who are not are considered Irongut by adoption.

[[ Not we're not closing, we are just a sub-group of Ironguts now. ]]
