  1. 1. Should we change to this?

Alright I went and did a quick write up during the 500 miles(804kilometers) drive today. It is either done, or close to it and is open to speculation.

Do you know the applicant IC/OOC? -

Do you think the applicant will abide by the VA rules?

How is the applicant IC/OOC? Are they prone to rage if something does not go in their favor. Would this affect how they RP their character?

Does the applicant break character and bring OOC into RP. (aside from the times one may need to use OOC to describe an action)-

Does the applicant troll? If so how much, and would it affect the way they RP if they come across someone they dislike.

Would the applicant willingly put himself into a situation they would not come out as the winner.

Is the applicant's RP generally fun for everyone, not just for themself/friends.

Are the evils chosen for the character relevant to the character. If not which do you think they need / don't need.

Please provide a screenshot(or multiple) of an RP session with the applicant in question.

I personally would prefer this one was implemented instead of the current one, mostly for the reason it will actually have people think about their references and responses, not just the generic 'No, he doesn't metagame, yes he's good at RP, no he doesn't say OOC in IC.'

are the screenies required now?

I would think so, but maybe we can make it so only one reference needs a set of screenshots for a VA, rather then all of them.

I would prefer it if there was screenshots, it helps show how the applicant is with their character. But realistically getting them would be improbable, or a hassle to get from people.

Am I the only one who feels like 99% of all references are completely biased and untrue?

In my opinion we shouldn't be increasing the length or the strictness of the villain application system. It's strict enough for the applicants as it is, I don't want to see people having to jump through hoops simply to RP. We all know the problems with the reference system lies in the fact people just get their friends to reference them, changing the format won't solve that.

Its not about making it harder. And no matter what we do applicants will always get friends to +1 them. This is more so about changing the reference system from the congested format that we have now, that has 5 questions per question. To something more streamlined and gives a better look about the applicant. And this format is slightly more streamlined to push away one word responses.

Yeah the old format is to jumbled together, and it allows the supporters to basically give a one or two word response, yet it may still look like a sentence because of the way it is set up. I think this new system can and will work well.

It's not a matter of difficulty relating to villain apps and references, it's the fact that, as you said, no matter what we do there will always be people referencing just because they are friends. I propose you do away with the reference system entirely.

Do you really look at the references in detail or at all when reviewing applications? It never really influenced my decision, so I rarely ever looked at them because I knew the insight I would get would be useless and would not help my decision.

It also promotes the cliques and friendships on this server that we know and hate. Someone may be a top notch RPer but not really know anyone or have any friends so they will never get a VA. Think about it; someone would not be able to get a VA without any friends. Is that not a flaw in the system? Where having friends is a requirement to pass and get accepted?

A lot of people view the VA section regularly. I mean, Vice7 had his VA TORN apart, and I'm pretty sure he didn't ask for it. Geoboy gets like 20 supports everytime, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't ask for them. People see VAs, and they actually do go reference someone if they think they deserve a VA, especially if they need a reference to be accepted. So, I think that would not happen. Also, I think many people make friends within their first week on the server. You can't apply for a VA within the first week either. I know many people that, although may not get on TS, do have a few people they know and speak to often VIA /tells. So personally, I do not see the reasoning behind removing the system completely.

I always look at one specific section of the form, which is the 'Do you think the applicant would be a good villain? (Follows rules. blah blah)' And if they say No, I read the rest of the form. I think we should keep them for the pure reason that some people aren't afraid to say "No, this person shouldn't get a VA!", and those that do, can help keep bad villains "off the streets". Some people that say no have videos and pictures to back them up.

The examples of Vice7 and Geoboy are entirely taken out of context. Vice7 was universally hated by most of the server, and Geoboy has his legion of followers and mindless worshipers at his heels. We should not be catering for just the famous and the infamous, which is what the reference system does. What about the new, great roleplayers that have no friends and no one really knows? Geoboy and Vice only got those references because people knew them. Even without the reference system, people can still express their opinion on the app, just not in such a strict, rigid and controlling manner.

I'm not sure the references are even needed. People just get their friends to write them, and BAM done.

Same goes for GM apps, yet it's tolerated, even by the GMs themselves

You roleplay with friends most of the time, they are the ones providing the feedback and yes, they're biased. It's only natural that friends help out friends.
