Definitions

In your own words, define what the act of roleplaying is:

Roleplaying is the act on taking on the role or persona of a make believe character and pretending to do what your persona would do.

In your own words, define what the act of meta-gaming is:

Metagaming is the use of out of character knowledge and apply it to your own character’s knowledge, like your friend telling you he is being attacked over Skype, OOCly and you then run there ready for combat ICly.

In your own words, define what the act of power-emoting is:

Power-emoting is when you control a situation giving virtually no choice to your opponent or other person. Such as emoting that you character pulls out a sword and parries all your opponent’s strikes and stabs him in the chest. All while the other player hasn’t had a chance to control any of the roleplay at all.

In-Character Details

Jesper Arayt

Character Race:

Human

Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary:

**My Character is based in Asulon, and all this information is off what Asulon had and what my friends told me about it, I hope it’s alright that I posted this while the map is down.

Jesper was born in Arethor to two loving parents who owned the local inn. He was raised to be very polite to courteous, this was necessary for him because his parents had to be polite to all their customers. His father, Caeric, had been a knight of the Oren Military when he was young and desperately wanted his son to follow him in being a great warrior. His mother, Gaessa, had grown up tending to the inn she still ran today, her family had owned it for many generations and she was well respected throughout the town for her famous Fish Platter, which was a mix of freshly caught fish and sliced potatoes. This was one of the many recipes his mother had tried to teach him.

By the time he was 10, his father was teaching him how to fight and his mother trying to get him to learn how to cook and run the inn. Jesper had no real interest in either profession. And even though he picked up quickly and became a skilled combatant over the next few years, he wanted something different. Jesper realized first that he would want to become a Blacksmith when an old Dwarf, who went by the name of Doric, moved into the town smithery. Jesper had walked past one day and saw the dwarf working hard to hammer a new iron axe for the lumberjack, who had ground his old axe to a dull, brittle piece of metal. A woman screamed outside the smithery when her fiancée proposed to her. The Dwarf, startled by the scream, hit the tip of the new hardened steel with his hammer at a bad angle and the flimsy grip of the hammer broke in two, sending the head skittering to Jesper’s feet.

“Oi there, ma’ boy!” the dwarf said beckoning to Jesper, “Mind fetchin’ that for me?” Jesper gently picked up the hammer head and walked over to the dwarf.

“Here you are, sir!” Jesper said, delighted to help.

“Thank yeh, ma’ boy.” Jesper left and said goodbye as he continued to wander down the street. For the next few days he would peek into the forge to watch the Dwarf work, he loved watching the sparks fly or the metal hiss and Doric cooled the metal in the water. A week and a few days after Jesper first met him, the Dwarf caught him looking and said, “I see yer interested in the fine art of smithin?” this caught Jesper by surprise and he jumped a little.

“Well, I’ve been watching you work, sir, it looks very exciting.”

“What’s yer name boy?”

“Jesper, sir.”

“Well, Jesper, mah name is Doric, and no need to keep sayin that ‘sir’ nonsense.”

“Oh sorry, si-“ he stopped himself.

“Now, how would ya like to work for me, I’m gettin’ old and I can’t do everythin on my own now.”

“I-I’d love to!” Jesper stammered.

“Good to hear it lad, now come back here tomorrow with rough apron.” Jesper hurried away home, excited to tell his parents he had his first job. Jesper was thirteen at the time.

When Jesper turned 30, Doric was getting old. His parents were also aging. Jesper had become a very skilled and experienced blacksmith and miner. He spent almost 18 years now smithing with Doric, getting supplies, learning how to create a stable mineshaft. Jesper was at the height of 6’1” with short brown hair. He also had a strong build with his lighter skin tone. Jesper was covered with scars and bruises from working so much in the mines and the forge. His father could never completely get over that his son was not the warrior he wanted him to be, but he and his father and his mother eventually accepted what he chose for his life. When he turned 31 his father had died of a flu, his mother was also old but living happily tending to her inn. His father made both of them promise not to cry when he died. Jesper had opened his own forge in the farming town of Crestfall the year before when Doric told him he was ready as a very experienced and skilled smith to spread his wisdom and talent.

What are your characters ambitions?:

He aspires to be a Master Blacksmith, though if it was necessary, he would become a knight or warrior to defend his new home and family.

Please provide an in-game screenshot of your skin here:

Is there anything else you would like to say about your character:

My character has never learned how to farm or cook more than a few recipes, and while he has had practice working in the inn, he never went on hunting trips with his father or learned how to use a bow. He has only minor practice in woodcutting or woodworking. The only woodwork he is skilled at it creating strong support beams for his mineshafts. He’s not much of an architect when it comes to housing, and his only stonework is for stairs for his mines as well.

Open-Response-Questions

Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short.

Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response?

I am strolling through my hometown Arethor on my way to visit my mother and bring her soe new cooking ware and some sharpened knives when I hear the bellowing voice of a small Dwarf fellow trying his hardest to catch the attention of nearby passers. I realized I had been watching the dwarf struggle to sell his wares for a few minutes. I then decided I should go over and see if I can help the little fellow out. The dwarf was very strongly built and had a red beard and his stall was cluttered with ingots to cobwebs. “Hello there!” I said politely.

“Well hello there, fine sur! Can I interest yeh in some of my fine wares? How about these arrows, said to be crafted by a druid huntress! Or these ingots? Me brother mined and smelted them himself!”

“Hmm.” I thought to myself what I could buy to give this fellow some business. “I’m a bit low on some gold ingots, I’ve had some trouble finding them in the mines, seems as though we dried out the deposits.”

“Aye, I have a few bars around here somewhere..” The dwarf rummages through some sacks and find a crate.

“Here we are!” He slams the crate onto the table. “Now then, how many are yeh lookin’ to buy then, eh?”

“How about six bars?” I ask smoothly.

“Six, hmm, let me see what that’ll add up to… carry the one… add the… Oh, yes, how about 35 Mina?”

“Sounds fair.” Looking at the ingots I saw they were definitely not top quality, and surely not worth what he charged, but the nice side of me took over and I paid the desperate dwarf his Mina and I headed off for my Mother’s inn.

You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do?

I am walking down with the sack of Gold I bought from the dwarf earlier this afternoon and some freshly baked loafs of bread from my Mother’s inn when I see a large Orc yelling at a dwarf. Both of them had begun to unsheathe their weapons, the orc wearing virtually nothing but a loincloth and a war helmet, and the dwarf brandishing his Carborum battleaxe and his chainmail vest. The Orc takes out his massive war club and the two assailants begin circling one another. I drop my Ingots and food and draw my sword, intent on not letting this battle to go down. I smithed my sword myself, it took me a few months working with Doric to create a magnificent Carborum long sword. It was perfectly balanced and lightweight, yet its sharpness and hardness were top quality. I jog up to the two combatants, both who look like they are ready to tear each other’s heads off and say, “Oi! What are you two doing? Sheathe your weapons! No need to slaughter each other on a public road!” The Orc immediately turned to me with a glow of hatred and rage in his eyes. Immediately making me regret what I did; however, the Dwarf seemed to realize they shouldn’t be fighting. The Orc then suddenly screamed a battle cry and swung his club at the both of us. Taken off guard the dwarf was picked up off his feet and launched about 10 meters off the path. I barely moved out of the way to have it only nick my arm sending me spinning to the ground. I then quickly got up and readied myself in a battle position. The Dwarf I could see was running towards the rode as the Orc charged at me again. I stood my ground and when the Orc took a wing with his warclub, I leaped out to the way and stabbed at him with a quick stroke. Catching him with a streak of blood along his right arm he yelled in pain, “ARGH!” the dwarf was then jumping to attack the orc again, but the Orc, who had seemed to be dazed, simply swung his good arm and smacked the dwarf unconscious. It occurred to me that the dwarf had his tunic on backwards, and that he might not be the greatest of warriors. The Orc rose from where he stood, I realized I would have no chance fighting this monster. I scooped up some dirt and threw it at the Orc’s face. He spattered a bit and swung his club wildly; a backstroke hit me and launched me toward my bag. I think I just broke a few ribs. I’m getting out of here, and with the orc still slightly blinded I grabbed my things and bolted for the forest.

Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?:

The Old man I saw walking a few meters ahead of me seemed as if his legs might snap under the weight of his own body at any moment. I looked away for a moment and heard a large snapping sound, “CRACK!” I quickly look back to see that the spindly walking stick had shatter at the center. His Coin purse also hit the ground, sending coins everywhere. To my relief my little dream had not come true and his legs were still intact. I ran to help him and asked, “Are you okay, sir?”

“Agh! I think I twisted my foot, Ugh!”

“Here, let me help you up.” I picked the man up and sat him against a tree where he could rest while I helped to heal his leg.

“Thank you very much.” He wheezed as he gave a horrific hacking cough.

“Are you sick?”

“No, -Cough!- No, just old is all.”

“Why don’t I look for a sturdier stick so we can get you home?”

“That’d be most kind, sir, I appreciate it.”

I head off into the forest and after about 10 minutes of looking, I snap off a good sized straight branch and head back to the man. He again thanks me as I bandage up his ankle. “Oh dear. My coin purse opened, Gah! Would you mind helping me pick up the Mina?” I had not even thought about the Mina till now, when I thought of what other people focus on all the time, money and riches, I realize that I might be pretty different than most of the people I met in my life.

“Oh, of course, let me get them for you.” I take the purse and start picking up the Mina that are scattered on the road. The man rests against the tree, massaging his ankle.

“Here you are.” I hand him the bag, “Do you need help getting to the town?” He was already counting his Mina.

“Didn’t take one did yeh?” He smiles, “Not common to find honest people nowadays.” He hesitantly stands and leans against the tree. “I’ll be fine gettin’ back, here, take some for you troubles.” He hands me two Mina but I push them away.

“Keep well!” I say as I turn to leave.
