In-Character Information:

Full Name: Dathian Aervis
Current Age: 23

Subrace: Northener
Past / History: "I was raised by just my mother in the village of Mireton, after my father went off to join the Holy Oren Empire's military, but was killed in battle against the Dwarves. Although we lived in a  rather small house, being the equivalent of a expanded wooden hut, my childhood was fairly decent, and I lived a good life up until my father was killed. After that, me and my mother struggled to survive, and life was full of hardship. I worked many low-paying jobs to get on, and we just managed to scrape by. I had a few younger brothers and sisters, but only me and the the next oldest sibling, my sister Gwenyvere could work, as my mother had to constantly tend to the rest of the children, who were too young themselves to work. This meant my family had come very close to starvation several times, and culling off one of the weaker children was a harrowingly close possibility.

Despite this, we managed to get through the hard times without the loss of a family member. After a few years, things got much better, as my other siblings could help with work, and eventually even my mother began work, as most of us had grown old enough to work, and the rest were at the age where they could look after themselves at home. We managed to pool all our money, and we bought a larger house, which even had a field with which to grow a few crops. And grow crops we did. We all gave up our jobs to come work on the farm. Our first harvest was relatively poor, but we still lived better than we did after my father died. Our next year's harvest was far better, and we managed to work up a respectable reputation with Mireton's inhabitants for our quality wheat. We even managed to get a surplus, and my mother would use it to bake bread, the smell of which is a very warm, clear memory in my mind. My 16th birthday was a couple of weeks after we sold off the crops, and my family threw the first  party I had had for many years. I enjoyed myself greatly on that day, and my mother even baked a cake.
As soon as I reached the age of 20, I was confident enough in my family's situation (and old enough) in order to leave home and join the Holy Oren Empire's military. I looked forward greatly to joining great battles against the Dwarves, and avenging the memory of my father.

However, military life was not what I had first thought it to be. Rather than great battles against the Dwarves, service mostly consisted of razing their villages to the ground, and looting every single building. Many a time I witnessed the killing of an old men or young boys alike, all seeking to defend their home with great bravery, but their resistance was largely futile. After which, many men would go into the house, and rape the women inside. Although I never partook in these horrific acts of violence and blood-lust, I felt that my inability to help them was the reason these horrible things were happening to them.

After seeing many horrors committed against innocent people, of many different races, for a year or so, I decided to desert, and avowed to help any in trouble, regardless of their race,. Having barely any money, and being on the wrong side of the law, I fled to Abresi, hoping to make better of myself, but mostly in order to lose myself amongst the rabble, to prevent being caught. I tried to get a proper job, but my desertion meant I was a fugitive, and any employers would either turn me down or threaten to report me to the guards.

Eventually I became sick of this cycle of looking for a job, that continued for roughly 1 year, being turned down and have to scrounge in order to survive, and so I decided I would go out to become an adventurer, seeking to help those in need, and also make a name for myself as a warrior."

Ambitions for the Future: Make a better life for himself, and hopefully do so on the right side of the law. He hopes to help people who are in need of it, however his status as a fugitive means that sometimes he is unable to do so. He also seeks to become a greater warrior, and maybe even become a paladin, where purity, altruism and swordsmanship are not only appreciated, but are required. He also wants what any sane man wants, more money, although his other, purer ambitions take more precedence over this one.
Personality:  Dathian has a strong sense of justice, and will often seek to right wrongs whenever and wherever he sees them, and tries to be as pure as possible, and has even taken a vow of chastity. He has found that not even the sentries of the Holy Oren Empire are pure, and almost hates the soldiers of the Empire for the acts he has seen them commit. Despite this, he will not engage in open combat with them (unless the situation has become dire enough that he needs to draw his sword) , as this would go against his oath of justice and purity.
Skills: Dathian is good with a sword and shield, owing to his military training. His work on a farm means that he is very strong, even for a Northerner, because tilling soil all day is certainly not going to make one weaker. He also is good with agricultural work, also owing to his farming past.

His weaknesses include that he is no good with a bow, as the Holy Oren Empire never trained him as an archer due to his stature. He is also not very agile or fast, as he has very rarely ever had to run very fast, and has such has never trained in that regard. Stealth is almost unheard of for him, as it is very hard to keep to the shadows and lay low when you are very muscular and tall, but also because being a soldier in an army, amongst other things, is not something that requires stealth.
Appearance: Dathian is nearly a giant of a man, being taller than most people, but largely because of his large musculature from his farm and military work. His hair is fairly short, however he does have some stubble that makes him look more rugged  He has a scar above his left eye from a scuffle with a "fellow warrior", after he tried to kill a small child's older brother right in front of her, right after he had killed her parents.  He wears fairly basic clothes, as he has never been able to afford any proper armor or fancy clothes  due to his lack of an occupation.poor-adventurer_10812_skin_minecraft_ski

Open-Response-Questions

Each question in this section must be answered with a minimum of one paragraph which must describe the event in full. Please be as descriptive as possible and do not break character or lore at any point.

1. Whilst in the mighty human capital you notice a dark-clothed figure stealthily making his way towards the Emperor’s palace - he is clearly up to no good. There are guards within shouting distance - what do you do?

Answer:  I would most likely try and tackle the figure, and interrogate him. However, because the person would most likely say they were up to no good, I would probably assume he is lying anyway. I would then find the nearest guards, and hand the figure over to them. After handing him over to the guards, I would try and get away from them before the guards can inquire as to who I am (and find out about me deserting).

2. Whilst wandering in the deep oak forest you come across a large clearing, in which sits a small cobbled cottage. Outside it stands an unstable old man armed with a small iron blade, surrounded by two heavily armed bandits - they appear to be threatening him. You are armed with leather armour and an iron longsword, how do you react?

Answer:  I would try and attempt to sneak up on the bandits, although I  would probably be unsuccessful. As such, I decide that I would just try and "convince" them to leave the old man alone. If they were not intimidated by my stature, I would just draw my sword, and attack. Because I am not as skilled with a longsword as I am with a normal sword, with a shield, I would not be as effective with it as I could be. However, my strength would probably counteract this, and I would be able to overpower them, and kill them, or preferably just force them to run away.

3. You are standing within the mighty human capital when you notice a small man standing behind a colourful stall. You approach the stall and notice that the man is selling a variety of general goods - he says that he is selling just about anything and that he has no set prices. He is willing to allow you to haggle and choose prices. What do you do? (Explain: your haggling, items of choice and the discussion that happens).

Answer:   After browsing his selection, I would settle upon some health potions. This is because I had recently been running low on them, after trekking for a quite long time.  Because of the time required to make the potions, the merchant would have a high starting price. I could probably work the price down a little, however it would still be too high. As such, I would ask the merchant if he required  any help with anything, in exchange for the potions. He asks me "Yes actually. Some youths constantly harass my stall, stealing goods and pickpocketing my customers, which gives me a terrible reputation. Would you go sort them out for me?". He tells me where they generally hang around, and then I would head to where they told me. Rather than use violence, I  would just  intimidate them, warning them "If you don't stop harassing the general merchant, then I will personally make you stop, understand?". Because of my stature, they would probably heed my warning, and leave him alone. I would then go collect my reward from the merchant, and the head off.
