The Bearded One Tires

It started out as another normal warm day in Auvergne, the servants ran through the halls dealing with the normal day to day duties. Marcel sat in his study, writing up another simple enchantment. His bright and invigorating look had faded over the years. He was only in his mid twenties but his face showed otherwise. Stress had gotten to him, his bright emerald eyes had turned a dull verdant. His smooth face showed signs of wrinkling. He saw a monster when looking into a mirror. He knew something had to change.

 

He has pondered this abdication letter since the day he took reigns. Those that were close to him knew he didn't strive for power, he quite literally resented it. Quill in hand Marcel began the letter, he wasn't one to drag things out, a simple paragraph would do. After a few quick moment he was done, bringing his wet tongue to the page he licked it shut, outstretching his hand to pass the note onto a servant as he stated, "Make sure dis lettah gets tah Alexandah Valois quickleh!"

 

Brushing back his thick bangs he sighed, turning back to his scrolls. This was the first time in a long time his mind felt clear, the burden was finally off his shoulders.

 

The letter:

Cousin you have been a workhorse in this house and I never acknowledged that. You have been very good to me over the years and even though much flak has been pushed your way you seem to get through it. I cannot think of anyone to pass to pass the house onto other than you. You have been an inspiration and after my abdication I know you will do great things for the family. I have high expectations for you, show us all the great things you are capable of.

Alexander stares off into the horizon, blinking as he reads the letter, eyes wide with a deep and raspy gasp, he stands. "****..." He would say slowly before he strode up into the upper reaches of the manor to contemplate what to do....
