Penned by, His Royal Highness, the Prince of Alstion Anno Domini, 20th of Owyn’s Flame, 2028 First Court of Burgundy, pictured 2025, depicted by Kaba Halcourt •• ━━━━━ •• ✠ •• ━━━━━ •• BURGUNDINE COURT STANDARD FOREWORD In the name of Their Majesties, Tiberias I van Aert, King of Burgundy and Circe van Aert, née Mareno, Queen of Burgundy, in the year of our LORD, two thousand and twenty-eight, the Office of the Chamberlain does hereby proclaim the formation of the Burgundine Court, the central axis upon which the Lords and Ladies of Burgundy shall interact with one another and the Crown of Burgundy. The Burgundine Court, fashioned in the traditional style of the old courts of man, serves as the center of political and social life for those summoned into the presence of Their Majesties. As loyal and leal vassals of the Crown, all landed lords and their families are welcomed as Lords and Ladies of the Burgundine Court, to render their service unto the Royal Crown and foster concord amongst the fiefs of Burgundy. Rest assured in knowing that a place for all lordly families is secured within these Courts. Yet, to those who would rise in duty and devotion, taking upon themselves greater responsibilities within this Court, great honor and reward shall be bestowed. This missive sets forth, in plain manner, the structure of the Burgundine Court and the offices therein, as overseen by the Lord Chamberlain. THE ROYAL FAMILY At the forefront of the Burgundine Court lies the Royal Household. Those graced with the presence of Their Majesties and their beloved family have a duty to serve at their behest and make themselves useful to the productivity of the Kingdom of Burgundy and the flourishing of her courtly body. Whilst there is little room for error or lapse in etiquette, all those subject to the Burgundine Court shall address members of the Royal Household with their proper and deserved honors, lest they be thrown out of court. It is paramount to remember these when addressing the Royal Household and in order: HIS MAJESTY, THE KING His Majesty, Tiberias I of the House van Aert, King of Burgundy, Duke of Middelan, Baron of Pestilles, Protector of Grense, Patriarch-Dynast of the Pertinaxi, etcetera. Only those with a recognized position within the Burgundine Court might be afforded a ward, up to two, whilst Their Majesties may take up as many wards as they see fit or choose to bestow a ward upon a member of the Court. Issued by the Duchy of Alba On the 18th of Sun’s Smile, 2024 ST. NOAH OF PETRUS Noah Wheezer, Bishop of Istria, 1490-1552 Patron Saint of Cathedrals, Ranches, Spring, and Mayors T H E M I R A C L E O F S T . N O A H A starving family, having had a barren harvest before winter’s beginning, were practically dying. However, after the father had prayed to St. Noah of Petrus, unofficially confessing his sins in preparation for looming death, the next morning when he and his family awoke, they would find that their hens had produced dozens upon dozens of eggs over night, feeding them for the next week and allowing the father the strength to head to the far away market in the village over to purchase food to allow them to survive to the winter’s end. As spring graces us with her bountiful blessing, we gather to remember the tender miracle of St. Noah of Petrus—who brought forth a dozen dozen eggs to a weary family so they might weather the chill of winter. In honor of his egg-borne blessing, we call upon the bright-eyed children of Burgundy to join us in joyful celebration! On the 19th of Owyn’s Flame, a rainbow of hand-painted eggs shall be hidden throughout Elizabeth, each one tucked away with care. The blessed child who uncovers the grandest basketful, as guided by the saintly gaze of St. Noah himself, shall be crowned the winner of this year’s Bounty of Eggs and shall be rewarded with a gilded egg, sponsored by the Aldersberg gilders. T H E P A I N T I N G O F E G G S Hardening of the Egg Take an egg, of any size, though it is encouraged to use that of a chicken as St. Noah did, and boil it hard within water over a running fire. Waxing of the Egg Using a tipped stylus, adorn the hardened egg with a design of melted beeswax for what is desired to remain white. Designing the Egg With the waxed stylus, traditional designs might consist of fleurs, animals, suns, stars, and shapes of square or circle. Dyeing of the Egg The egg is dyed from lightest to darkest colors, from yellow to red to green to black. After each dye bath, more wax is added to preserve parts of the previous colors. Revealing of the Egg Using a candle, carefully hold its flame to the egg so the beeswax may be melted from the shell, revealing the design of the painter. S I G N E D, THEIR ROYAL HIGHNESSES, Cecily and Edward, Princes of Alstion, Dukes of Alba, Counts of Enswerp and Thesmer, Barons of Placentia, Lords of Elizabeth, Defenders of the Godwinites, Protectors of the Franklands, Patriarchs of the Johannian Dynasty, etcetera. Issued by the Duchy of Alba On the 18th of Godfrey’s Triumph, 2023 Morvelyn Great Hall, c. 2010 In the fabled tales passed from father to son, the Godwinite descendants foretold of a Great Stag, whose fur was as white as fresh milk and whose brawn was as strong as ironwood. The grandeur of such a beast only outdone by the white antlers atop its head, branching like a thousand daggers of ivory. Some said its horns were wrapped in gold, and others passed off such a creature as mere myth. But such a legend bore true as whispers of sightings across the Franklands made their way to the Castle Morvelyn, perched upon Elizabeth’s high hill. Taking stock in the tale, Edward the Younger, Lordly-Son of the Princes of Alstion, took this cause to heart and set his sights upon claiming the stag for his own. After some months of stalking and tracking the movements of the local deer population, as set out by the good Master Leopold, we grew rather certain of the familiar grazing spots in which such a Stag might be found. Lo’ and behold, the rumors were true, for a hunting party led by our son and heir to Alba set out to find and slay this creature. By the Grace of GOD the whole of the party returned mostly unharmed, mildly bruised, with a victorious white fleece upon their backs. We invite all of Alba and those who deign to entreat our victorious band of Albans to a feast to be held in the honor of the Great Stag, for such is the crest and sigil of our Duchy. Meats from the Stag have been salted, cured, and arranged into a variety of dishes for all to enjoy. I T I N E R A R Y Opening Prayer Attendees shall convene in Morvelyn’s Great Hall for a prayer over the meal. Procession - Great Hall The Hunting Party shall present themselves before the Ducal Coronet, offering up the head of the slain Stag. Feast - Great Hall Food shall be set out for people to take and choose as they please. Drinking Competition - Great Hall With bellies full and ale running over, guests are welcomed to partake in a drinking competition and drunken brawl. I N V I T A T I O N S His Royal Majesty, Tiberias van Aert, King of Burgundy, and his Royal Household His Royal Highness, Owyn Rostova, Crown-Prince of Ravenmire, and his Princely Household His Royal Highness, Henrik Keen, Princeps of Ivoria, and his Princely Household His Royal Highness, Erwin Barclay, Prince in Reinmar, and his Princely Household His Grace, Sigmund Ludovar, Duke of Kvasz, and his Noble Household His Grace, Duncan Baruch, Duke of Valwyck, and his Noble Household His Lordship, Istvan Ivanovich, Baron of Basarab, and his Noble Household His Lordship, Leonid Othaman, Baron of Valles, and his Noble Household His Lordship, Arturas Whitewood, Baron of Silasia, and his Noble Household And to all those under the Kingdom of Burgundy and her allies. UNTO OUR BELOVED CANONIST BRETHREN OF THE KINGDOM OF BALIAN, May the grace of GOD descend upon you. Indeed, our Ducal coronet has sought counsel with King John, and regarded him as friend, yet we find our trust betrayed by the very hands we once extended in friendship. When the King’s Majesty first came upon us to tell us this exorbitant recounting which has now so brazenly spread across the realms of Man, our Ducal Coronet deemed this some grave misdeed—an arbitrary cruelty wrought upon the kith of Malin. Imagine, then, our astonishment when the alleged miscreant was revealed to be none other than our own officer, Robert of Ulmsbottom. More troubling still was the account he laid before our Ducal Coronet, one that stands in stark contrast to that which was first brought before us and perhaps sheds light upon the matter. As the Lord Captain so plainly declared, the girl denied the very existence of GOD. Mistake this not to be the mere naivety of a child, for wisdom is said to come from the mouths of babes. GOD’s presence and will are undeniable to those of His flock. Babes know it within their mothers’ wombs, young and old children raise their voices in hymns to His glory, and men devote their lives to His sacred creed. He is no mere possibility with which we must reckon but a living truth—a waking reality to which all are called, that we might ever walk in accordance with His divine will. This was not some act of cruelty rendered unto the innocent and defenseless, as you would have the world believe, but rather the desperate reaction of a GOD-fearing man, who, in the face of such blasphemy, saw no recourse but to act as his faith demanded. Unto the King of Balian, we ask you this: Would you have us turn a blind eye to such blasphemy when our own home was reduced to ashes for its impiety? Would you have me punish and scar a man of GOD for being a devout servant, one who fears and follows the scrolls? You style yourself as ruling 'by the grace of GOD’ yet you would sooner defend a girl who denies the very existence of GOD than uphold the sanctity of His holy name. Notwithstanding this, Robert of Ulmsbottom was reprimanded still, as would have been made known had you shown the courtesy to come and parley with us. Had you any true intent to see this matter resolved, you would have ridden to hear Robert’s testimony, as you had when first you brought it to our attention. Instead, you summon us to justify ourselves before your court, as though we were your vassals to be called upon at a moment's whim. You decry the imperialist tenets which your peoples once fought so hard to uphold, yet still, you seek to play Emperor, expecting every man to bend to your call. It is clear that the realization that we are no such vassals to the Balian crown, that we would not come running as one would expect a crying child to run to their mother, be a hard truth to swallow and a public decry of the Alban people be your attempt to reprimand us into submission to your purview. This strife which divides the House of Ashford is no matter for those of Alstion or Novellen. That His Majesty would lend support to this claim is nigh astounding, for to invoke the names of old is to summon woe upon oneself. We doubt not that the King’s Majesty knows this well, for his own august forebears banded together with our own to bring ruin upon the Stassions for much the same cause. The Savoyard name and legacy are of great weight, for verily, it once belonged to Kings and Princes of mighty renown. If these new Savoyards seek to uphold it, then let them stand alone, that they might prove themselves strong enough to bear so great a mantle, lest it crush them beneath its weight. This notion of Alban aggression is a false one entirely, no orders were issued by the Ducal Coronet to harm the blaspheming girl or the overambitious Savoies, who, in truth, were not harmed by Alban men. The only crime of which we are guilty is refusing to be a dog at the leash of Balian’s wishful imperial hands. Even so, for we would nary seek to punish the Balian people as such has been grievously done to us, let it be known that all GOD-Fearing men who hail from Balian’s golden shores be permitted to venture to Alba’s lands and conduct trade. King John, you have written to us that you “shall ever strive for peace and harmony between our peoples”. Should this prove true still, if you are not the Emperor that you so appear to be, and if you truly care for the welfare of your people, you shall, with consent from the Holy Regent, meet us at the Holy Temple of Lemon Hill on the eve of 18th of the Sun’s Smile, in the Year of Our Lord two-thousand and twenty, that this situation might at last be laid to rest. Issued by the Duchy of Alba On the 21st of Horen’s Calling, 2007 The City of Elizabeth by Mary Aldersberg, 2002 Upon crossing the threshold of the gatehouse, one is greeted by a lively and bustling square. The joyous giggles of children ring out as they toss shillings into the central well, rumored to grant the children their wishes. Atop the podium, the Lady Mayor of Elizabeth addresses a gathered throng with measured words. To the right, the young Lady Treasurer engages with a young family, showing one of the few remaining apartments within the city’s bounds. Meanwhile, to the left, the patrons of the Jolly Heart Tavern burst into an uproar of laughter, their glasses raised in a celebratory toast. Just beyond the Jolly Heart Tavern, nestled within the tranquil yard of Camilla’s Court, lies the memory of Lady Camilla Falkner, whose life was tragically claimed by the terrorists of the Bloody Diet of 2003. Here, the resolute footmen of the Alban guard may be found in quiet reflection or engaged in the spirited clash of sparring blades. Each one serves with unwavering commitment, ever mindful of their duty to safeguard Alba, ensuring that past atrocities shall never again darken her land. A marble statue of Lady Camilla watches over the cloister, standing as a solemn tribute to the resolve to protect the future of Alba – one that she gave her life for. Passing beyond the bustle of St. Godwin’s Square, patrons linger by the windows of boutiques, bakeries, and bazaars that line the main thoroughfare, their gazes fixed upon the fine wares within. The air becomes sweetened with the delicate fragrance of roses as a young woman steps forth from the Aldersberg Atelier to join her family, the woman's face aglow with delight as she twirls in her newly fashioned gown. The aroma of freshly baked bread then wafts through the street, carried from the de Lewes Delights bakery, where a young Lewes girl carefully places a basket of loaves in the window. Further down the street, a man bids farewell at an Alstreim grocer, a laden satchel swinging at his side, while another departs the Wickmart clutching a pair of candles, his steps aimed towards St. Catherine’s Chapel, where the toll of bells mingles with the distant preachings of Father Edmund. Looking over the City of Elizabeth sits Castle Morvelyn with humble but strong walls. Upon passing the heavy gates that ward off intruders, one must face the statue of St. Godwin whose stony hand points East, to the lands of the Old Kingdom, lest we forget our heritage. Moving past the statue and the maids toiling about the courtyard, the intimate halls of the Castle greet you with subtle scents of sage and orange blossom. To the Eastern wing of the Castle lies a series of apartments for courtiers and newly ennobled families, while to the Western wing holds the heart of the Castle: the Great Hall. The hall, adorned with mahogany paneling is a long procession of clothed tables and finely woven carpets, leading to a dais upon which the Duke and Duchess of Alba sit, their heads held high to the rafters which drape with the banners of their vassals. Fealty of a Lewes by Mary Aldersberg, 2005 [!] A map would be drawn upon the back of the pamphlet

Edward began to pen a letter to the aspiring young Lady. "Whatever shall I pick as a gift to give?" He contemplated, looking around his Princely room in thought.

when personal projects get killed for ooc reasons/irp ganging it can be disheartening to continue on the server entirely. We all aim to separate rp from ooc but as humans it is impossible to truly do so, especially when it feels as if everyone is stacked against you and people who are supposed to be aiding you cant aid you because of ooc reasons. I think the server is in a very particular situation—how do we support the niche roleplay communities players want to join while also promoting a boisterous roleplay environment that is largely dependent upon the centralization of RP. I think that also extends to certain conversations about reforming the empire (not saying that should be the solution per se) but it might be easier to find more roleplay while maintaing your niches if theres a collective hub to go to outside of doing the rp you want. because inherently there will always be someone there - and it might make you feel even more connected if you're a part of the same nation rather than being a foreigner visiting another in search of rp. This then brings us to the role of staff in managing a server population. By what means should staff inhibit or guide roleplay as a means of finding that happy balance, and how do we work to support the groups culled in the process, whether the outcome be good or bad?

Edward Caius retorted to his Lady-Wife as their words were penned upon paper. “Ah yes, they seek to protect the people of these lands yet bomb the very same ilk! Surely even if a republican institution was put in place, no one would vote for the people who attacked them so! They seek tyranny under the guise of freedom.”

Issued by the House of Alstion On the 21st of Godfrey’s Triumph, 2003 The Salvo Plot, The Free City of Venic, In the Year of Our Lord 2003 A PRAYER UNTO THE DEAD Domine, animae defunctorum et nocentium, supplicamus tibi. Amen. ♰ The Diet began in earnest, a gathering marked by purpose, where conversation flowed as it should—measured, yet impassioned. And for a time, all seemed in order, with voices raised in earnest discussion and hopes for progress running high. Yet the hall, once charged with impassioned debate, was suddenly pierced by shouts of alarm, as the Salvian Menace, acting in the name of the republic, launched their assault—with Prince Edward and the Princess as their chosen targets. The hall, a place of reason moments before, was transformed into a battleground, as violence tore through what had been a gathering of peace and purpose. The spectators did make haste to flee the chamber, as the clergymen, in their pious office, did bid them forth unto the sanctuary that lay just beyond the diet hall. Erstwhile, as the Salvian Menace drew closer towards the royal coupling, those few amongst them, who were girded with steel, did take up arms in defence, striving to shield the Prince and Princess from that which threatened their lives. For their charge was base and vile, these Republican hounds were swiftly struck down, and in their folly did they bring victory unto the Crown’s loyalists, with none among them suffering harm. TO THE PEOPLE OF THE REALM, WE, Prince Edward and Princess Cecily, are ever grateful for the prayers and well-wishes for our health and safety. We write to you and say this: We are alive and well. WHEREIN the Diet of Lords and Commons had been peacefully convening to discuss the future of our beloved kingdom, but was tragically interrupted by the republican elements, whose actions endangered the health and safety of many. WE, the Prince Edward and Princess Cecily, whomst were the intended targets of this vile act, have been brought to safety under the mercy of GOD. As we recover from the events of today’s bloody affair, we extend our hearts and prayers to the families of the wounded and lost, and our gratitude to those present who defended us and neutralised the radicals. A special thanks is due to Goran and Felix Wick, whose swift actions, and knowledge of alchemical tools, proved decisive in the defence of our lives. FURTHERMORE, we condemn the actions of the Republic of Salvo and their accomplices, and warn all of Canondom to be wary of any approaching signs of terrorism. But let it be clear—violence will not be met with further violence, but with GOD’s justice. This attack upon our body and the Diet, a body gathered for the prosperity and future of our kingdom, is not only an attack upon us but an attack upon the very fabric of our collective being. We will not forget this. TO those who conspired in this plot against the good men, women, and children of this realm, know this: Our resolve has not been deterred but strengthened. We will not be melted by the flames of our trials, but tempered and forged stronger. We will not be broken. TO those who would further conspire to see our demise, we promise this: Try as you might, you will find no weakness in our hearts, no crack in our will. Every scheme you weave will unravel before the might of our unity and the strength of our purpose. We are not so easily broken. T R A N S C R I P T Of the First Aaunic Diet of 2003 S I G N E D, HIS HIGHNESS, Prince Edward Caius of Balamena HER ROYAL HIGHNESS, Princess Cecily of the Apostolic Kingdom of Aaun, Lady of Alba
