you can also just stop playing characters without killing them off. PKing is final, so think about it carefully before you make that choice. I'm no longer playing my orc Gragmar but she's still alive and happy - just shelved and I may return to her someday. there's nothing wrong with shelving a character either temporarily or even permanently if you're getting tired of them or if you feel like their arc has run its course.
Alternately, you can look for new avenues of RP or a change of scenery that might bring some much-needed freshness to your RP.
I've gotten emotional and PK'd characters on a whim before. I always regretted it. just my two cents.
it's always better to give a character a satisfying ending - or failing that, shelve them - rather than abruptly cutting off their story before it's reached completion.
in the end, it's up to you. but just don't be too hasty.

also like... tanith was shelved for 8 years OOC before I returned to her.
I'm sincerely glad I never killed her off because her current arc is so satisfying to me. she's transformed from a faschy bootlicker token minority to a much more well-rounded, well-considered, and well-developed character who is passionate about fairness, justice, and equality.
characters are never "ruined". They can always be rescued with a little change of direction or a new setting or a new outlook.
