  4. [!] A chest is delivered to the Royal City of Whitespire, within it contains the bloody entrails of a horse and the tiara of Princess Adeline of Aaun resting atop it. [!] A note seemingly written by multiple people in poor handwriting was found within the chest. TO THE KING OF THE SHITESPIRE, O' “king”, Aaunite demon and damned servant of Iblees, thou who rules over the white tower of the void, reaching towards God, deceiving all those who dwell beneath you, for you are but a damned man of sin! What kind of knight are you, for thou can not slay a hedgehog with your naked bum? The deceiver shits and your army eats, for your mind is as clouded as a hag’s crusty mare. The spawn of treacherous devils, craven blood runs through you, you king of mindless sheep! Cuck of the Heartlands, bitter “lord” of Adria, an idiot before all his folk, a kinsman so brave he has yet to step upon the field of battle, a warrior so mighty he flees to the upper floors of his tower! One so chivalrous he does not stand to protect his kith! O’ lord of the Shitespire, may your name be eternal! And now you, king of unresponding dukes, kiss our arse! Signed, Cossacks of Arpéch [!] A bloodied letter pinned beneath the note, found beside the tiara, when opened by the Council of Aaun and only them, it would be seen in the handwriting of Princess Adeline of Aaun. TO THE COUNCIL OF AAUN, As I write this letter, I sit within the Feast hall of Veletz and surrounded by the men that raided our City and took me Hostage. The men that hold me demand a message to be sent to the council of Aaun, a message that conveys the fate of me. They demand that Aaun reconsider their involvement in the war, threatening to have me punished for my involvement as a consequence of this decision. Should Aaun depart from this senseless war, and return to its state of neutrality, I will be released without harm brought unto me. Signed, Adeline

  7. THE VILACHIAN STRIFE 2nd of the Amber Cold, 1936 Today, we have been shown the great “hospitality” of our cousins within the southern jungles. During a diplomatic visit to our Vilac relatives in the city of Portoregne, we were met with insults and threats to the retinue of the Marcher Lord and his wife Wilhelmina van Aert. Furthermore, the Vilac Baron has insulted the legacy of my brother and our ancestors, claiming that we are of illegitimate issue, equivalent to common trash. We have been made aware these claims have been issued for many years, and yet, we turned the other cheek. Had this been the era of our Vilachian forefathers, that day would have been met with a different fate. Since our cousin, Casimir, is insistent on misconstruing the truth of our ancestry, we are more than obliged to give him a lesson in the history of House Vilac. All legitimate descendants of Prince Martius, grandson of Emperor Aurelius, Margrave of Styria and lord of Castle Vilacz, are legitimate scions of Vilac and it is from him that the house of Vilac draws its lineage: We descend from Martinus Vilac, firstborn son to Martius. The Duke of Blackvale, Patriarch-Dynast of the Pertinaxi has reaffirmed this; we are Princes of Aurelian blood. No amount of the lies that Casimir falsely spreads will change that. It was our dear brother Prince Leonid that taught us the value of clemency. He commanded a great Legion of men, yet spared our cousin with his forgiveness despite his miscreant lies. In his legacy, we shall do so the same. Let this be our official message: We are willing to co-exist as two separate branches of House Vilac without interference upon one another. We will not tolerate any claims of superiority or bastardization from Casimir Vilac or his descendants, however. When we were insulted and threatened, we instead responded with the pursuit of peace and recourse with the diplomatic agency of Balian. Nevertheless, we are willing to uphold and defend our birthright and honour our forefathers by any means necessary. Given under our hands and seals on this day, Prince Fedor Vilac Marcher Lord of Verbant, Patriarch of House Vilac in Veletz Sir Peter Montalt Field Captain of Verbant, Baronet in Veletz

  12. THE VERBANTINE COMPANY “Honour the past, conquer the future.” PREAMBLE “Prepare to face the consequences of your impotence, for you will know me as the justice that will shatter the illusions of your feeble rule.” — St. Arpad Ivanovich of Vilacz to John VI, during the Coup of Adelburg The collapse of the Empire of Renatus and the succeeding dissolution of its prominent houses led to a significant decline in the martial prowess once held by the warlords of the House of Vilac. During this period of all, the many once-proud Vilachian corsairs spread through the realm, serving across different campaigns of the War of Two Emperors and the AIS war. While these men found prominent success, it would not be until the reformation of the Duchy of Adria in 1904 that Leonid Vilac would proudly reform the house to its greatness within the city of Velec. In 1925, the sudden disappearance of Leonid left the charge of the House of Vilac to his brother, Fedor Vilac - a merchant and trader. With a dwindling houseguard, Fedor turned to the host of the once-proud lords of Rivia, who had recently hailed from their exile following the dissolution of the Kingdom of Oren. To solidify this union, Fedor would marry his sister to Vibius Antonius, and take his son Edward Aurelius under his wardship. He would furthermore turn to his distant kin of Ivanovich for men to command his army: Sveneld Ivanovich and Peter Montalt. The fruit of its promulgation: the Verbantine company. The Verbantine are knightly in order, yet follow a fierce codex in accordance with their brutal militaristic virtues and the rules of whomever employs them. The Verbantine company pledges their loyalty to the house of Vilac and their branches, if none are found fit to lead, then to their maternal predecessor, the house of Ivanovich. While the company is under the direct service of its liege, it retains its independent will to serve and act on its own behest and do the duties of a mercenary. Exiled Rivian Heavy Cavalry arriving in Verbant. RANK AND STRUCTURE “With my final breath, I choose freedom over chains. Let history remember me not as a captive, but as a lord who defied fate itself.” — Duke Charles of Rivia, before his final stand in Kaer Coch Commandant The Commander is the centerpiece of the entire army, and it is he who determines its course. Although he may appoint subordinates to handle certain matters of logistics, intelligence, and training, the responsibility of ensuring those are done to perfection falls solely on his shoulders. On all military matters, especially in times of war, his word is penultimate, with only the count being able to overrule him should he wish. With the power wielded by the Lord Marshal comes great expectations, and it is not uncommon for a poor Commander to be executed for failures on the battlefield; however, in times such as these, where there is a want of manpower, a simple beating typically suffices. Capitan The Captains of the Verbantine serve as the second in command of the company. They handle much of the day to day operations, carrying out direct orders from the Commander and ensuring the army is functioning as intended. Captains oversee the three crucial tasks of the Company: gathering resources, training soldiers, and recruiting new soldiers, respectively. They are the officers who interact most with the rank-and-file on the day to day and generally have a good deal of autonomy in carrying out their task. Serjeant Each sergeant accompanies each captain to make sure that the lower ranks stay in line and on task. Primarily a disciplinarian, sergeants are often feared, sometimes despised, but always a respected and valuable part of the Company. They also serve as an intermediary of sorts between the common soldiers and the higher officers, requiring a constant flow of communication. Armsman The armsmen are the backbone of the Company and comprise most of the army. Although they hold virtually no command, they are still entrusted with a number of important tasks. Comradery is seen as a cornerstone of the army, and it is the men-at-arms who typically find themselves fraternizing with each other, and sometimes those outside of the army, at the barracks, training grounds, or pubs. Most soldiers within the Company spend their whole lives as men-at-arms, for only those worthy deserve promotion. Militant These are the initiates of the Company, and these footmen are subject to perhaps the most brutal training before they may advance, resulting in a number of injuries and occasionally death. Unlike the other ranks in the Company, initiates may be promoted after completing their initial training and serving actively for a year, making it the only time a soldier may ascend from service alone. During times of war, initiates are often at the front lines in battle to test their mettle in a trial by fire; those who survive are promoted to armsmen, those who perish are given a soldier’s burial, and those who flee are burned at the stake. An example of a Verbantine soldier. TRADITIONS “What is ours, shall remain ours. What is not, will become ours!” — Excerpts from the “Renatian party of Adria”, 1914 The Verbantine soldiery is known to be vehemently traditional, revering to their past and heritage. Many of the men adhere to traditions of yore, such as raising bulls while on a campaign for them to be slaughtered as a sacrifice. Their foes and allies alike tend to depict them as brutish, brawny warriors who spare no quarter, oft impaling and flaying their foes after victory. Albeit, they are fiercely loyal, treating one another as brothers and kin. The Verbantine soldier may prove his worth by completing the most arduous of tasks, this is primarily executed through the Rivian tradition of the Boar Hunt. For a man to triumph over the boar is considered a test of true will and thus is expected of most Verbantine soldiers. This ceremony often marks the elevation from a Militant to an Armsman and is celebrated often with a grand feast. THE CODE OF CONDUCT A man under Verbantine command shall not; pillage, plunder, or torment unless explicitly permitted by his superior. A man under Verbantine command shall adhere to his commander's every order, even if it leads to their demise. A man under Verbantine command shall not provoke nor cause hostilities on neutral or allied land. A man under Verbantine command shall always uphold Adrian law and always be a stalwart defender of their homeland. A man under Verbantine command will adhere to the laws of the land of their employment, and will never fight for another liege unless permitted. A man under Verbantine command will keep himself presentable, with his hair shaved and beard well maintained, and a woman attached to the company will keep her hair tied or cut short. A man under Verbantine command will not swear any other oaths other than that to the company and its liege. If a man of Elven origin aspires to join the Verbantine company, they must undergo a ceremonial clipping of the ear.
