  1. Morrigan Pendraic was roused from her slumber upon delivery of the missive. Her heart sank upon reading those words. Her father was dead. A pang of guilt hit her; in her absence, she had no time to say her goodbyes. The papyrus was allowed to fold as she rose from her bed, that once strong and proud adunian now feeble and old. Perhaps she'd soon join her father if time allowed, but for now, she crept through the corridors of her home as if a shadow of her former self.
  2. Isilmelire had heard a tale of the divine slaughter only hours after the city fell. A young survivor came to her doorstep, panicked. He had barely escaped being hanged from the pagan's tree. An innocent life. Now, with the missive in hand, did she realize the full extent of the tragedy. Of the men and women, even children, who were lost, extinguished, and excused by the proclamation of holy right. A realization dawned, and she began to pen her letters to those she desperately hoped had survived the massacre.
  3. "A shame," Remarked the librarian, her scarred digits used to flick such a missive into the flame. Brows contorting in dismay at even the thought of her friend in such trouble.
  4. Hallo! Thank you, the only preexisting warmth potion to my knowledge, which I did double check in the ST discord, is one recipe called "Insulating Decoction"; this is an ingestible, whereas Eldwyn's Favor is purely a fabric treatment. I will keep it as rare. Whether it is the alchemical equivalent, I believe it makes sense to have an equivalent as some characters would be irply disinterested in magical items, whereas they may be open to alchemical.
  5. Eldwyn's Favor Tier 2 | Rare Purpose: Initially, in the hopes of aiding those who wished to venture far into the bitter frost of the North, this oil was crafted by the alchemists of Caurost. Treating clothing with this concoction will provide the wearer with a cozy warmth or respite from winter's nipping. While it may be a resource for traveling in unsavory climates, it can serve as a gift for cold days. Recipe: Base: Lard Fire | Heat x3 Mundane | Balance x Mundane | Curtailment x1 Mundane | Endurance x2 Effects: When worn, any fabric treated with this oil produces a warming effect, akin to the comforting sensation of sitting by a crackling hearth, wrapped in a fur cloak. Rather than retaining Heat, the treated fabric is designed to maintain a perpetual warmth, ensuring the wearer's coziness in various environments. However, excessive use of this fabric can lead to overheating, causing potential discomfort. The oil itself can provide minimal warmth, but the fabric is favorable. Crafting and Application Process: When making this oil, the first step is to boil the chilled lard until it has a separate consistency resembling golden honey. Once this is done, the following steps must be rapid. Three counts of Heat signed by Fire must be added first, followed closely by one count of Balance. After stirring the mixture, the alchemist may add one count of Curtailment and the final two of Endurance. Once the oil has been allowed to settle and cool, it may be strained through a fabric similar to a cheesecloth. Finally, to treat the cloth in this oil, it should be soaked for a few hours, then rinsed and stomped upon. The oil itself is scalding on its own and only becomes bearable when applied to fabric. Redlines: Fabric treated with Eldwyn's Favor is warm enough to cause discomfort if worn in warm places. This discomfort includes the possibility of overheating, but it can not be used to harm another player intentionally. The oil can not be saturated into more than one piece of cloth. For resource conservation, an alchemist may craft a single cloak. Someone with heat-sight may see this treated fabric and its wearer as a glowing person-shaped silhouette, much brighter than the average due to its perpetual warmth. If someone were to try to ingest the oil for warmth, they would regurgitate and feel an acrid burning sensation for a few moments following. The treated fabric protects from the environment. You must learn this potion from an alchemist or a recipe book. This oil does not require an ST Signature.
  6. The Library of Disciple Alchemy Signs & Symbols A Caurosian Study Isilmelire Aduiladyr Acal’Turrii This study is to record for educational purposes the various symbols found throughout herbs and the signs that they are commonly linked with. In the chart listed below are the five signs and the symbols you may find within them. The symbols nearest the top are believed to be specific to that Sign, such as Strength, Courage, Heat, and Burning with Fire. Each of these possesses specificities that are innate to the Sign. Each panel is organized by color; Green appears once. Blue appears twice. Red appears three or more times. Yellow is believed to be so specific to that Sign that it appears as a secondary sign when shown in herbs like King's Ivy and Night Sap. Gelunite is the exception to that standard, as none of its symbols are hyperspecific to Earth. For example, King's Ivy, which is double-signed by Fire & Air, possesses Agility, Strength, and Sound. Agility appears commonly within any Air herb, whereas in Fire, it appears once, in the herb above. This same theory applies to Nightsap, a double-signed Earth & Aether herb, with Blindness, a common Aether symbol. Fire Water Earth Aether Air Strength Courage Heat Burning Agility Sound Rigidity Connection Vigour Rage Light Life Balance Freezing Coldness Separation Weakness Order Growth Grace Endurance Death Peace Silence Purity Reduction Fear Impediment Swiftness Light Slowness Balance Lethargy Dark Blindness Reduction Purity Impediment Poison Fear Instability Rigidity Growth Connection Order Life Swiftness Curtailment Lethargy Slowness Blindness Clarity Chaos Rage Sound Vigour Poison Death Endurance Life Curtailment Lethargy Agility Grace Clarity Peace Silence Chaos Instability Balance Light Swiftness Curtailment Slowness There are a plethora of herbs that can be described in detail, but we will choose only a handful to explain. Two from each Sign, these, of course, exclude the aforementioned double-signed herbs. These, too, will be split by color to emphasize the difference between symbols. Fire Water Earth Aether Air Sun Shard Heat Burning Courage Light Drake’s Tail Heat Burning Rage Balance Frost Vine Freezing Weakness Order Blissfoil Coldness Peace Silence Balance Beardweed Growth Life Swiftness Hiding Moss Dark Fear Reduction Blight Cluster Blindness Vigour Poison Death Faerie Truffles Clarity Endurance Life Jailor’s Moss Agility Chaos Instability Slowness Paddfoot Agility Silence Grace Curtailment Blindness itself, when linked to Aether, may be due to the state in which two of the herbs grow; both Helvirryn Mushrooms and Blight Cluster are found hidden away in a dark cave, whereas Night Sap, an herb signed by Aether, is often found in the shade of a tree. Similarly, many things used in Alchemy with the sign Fire are found as rocks or crystals, such as with Sun Shard and Sweet Rock, or as sprawling ivy, in the case of Kings Ivy, or Drake’s Tail. Death, a symbol found in both Aether and water, may also be found in the spit of descendants. Rage, which may be found in both Fire and Aether, is also found in something easily scavenged from the depths of a mine, much like redstone. This study was not done to answer any questions, but rather, to organize what is already known and pose some curious queries as to why certain things are the way they are. Alchemy and Herbology remain more than just useful tools. They are a reminder of a surface barely scratched. 7. What is my Asioth? Vessel of Eternity Last, the World is a misty weald of white branches. Trees reach for the heavens; they seek without growing. Asioth is shining above the bright heavens. Waxing out, a silver moon cleaves two into One. Spectral branches weave throughout each other: white-gold. Loving, the white light grows; Wanting, the gold light dies. Lively knowledge carves the First-Born from white branches; His bones are pale stone beneath plates of black onyx. Without, white-gold hides ages in the bright heavens. First-born tears down spectral branches: eternity. What is my Asioth? A query that has been asked countless times to those following the same trek and those who do not. Numerous years have been spent dwelling on these four simple words. It is the intangible, a light inside our vessel. A goal to pursue, or a candle lit for our sanctity. The threshold we’ve yet to cross and the cobbled stone we remain walking on. The question itself beckons conversation. What is your Asioth? Every dedicant to this path is expected to find a different answer. A different cause, my teacher found his, and it was to serve. As futile as that was. My own has been as intangible as the topic; I thought it to be the ability to oversee the world as it went by, continuing in my trek through the shifting sands. Now, after many regrettable decisions and a somewhat hypocritical beginning, I realize that my wish or goal will remain as fluid as it was. It is the resolve to continue on and the wisdom to know when change is necessary, I do not want strength, or renown, I only want to feel the warmth of the hearth after all is done and settled. There is no easy way to elucidate what it is I mean, and weary have I grown of the same prying question. There is pain in our path, from the marks carved into our skin to the calluses etched upon our hands after gruelling service. There will always be pain, just as there will be the company of our peers and the warmth of a hearth when finally respite is earned. While the flame may guide us, we, too, must guide ourselves. We must know that, like the Titan, we are bound within a cage of ivory branches. The path we walk will not always have the same end. At times, we may find that walking forth may do more harm than stepping back. A tree does not have just one branch; it has hundreds. While we are not blessed with eternity, we do have years or centuries to continue onward. The Treatise of the Draconic makes reference to the path the Nephilim must follow as children of the Titan and of Sacrifice. It can be tied to the life of a Herald or Seeker. They serve as our Teachers and Guides. It is due to their Conviction that we aspire to these lengths, and we must walk the path they set before us with the willingness to grow and the resolve to continue. Fire of Growth The World was a fruitful womb of red earth: a cage. Below, a white-gold seed, First-Born, became himself. Thus a sapling of Asioth emerged unseen. Lively knowledge was as sunlight upon its leaves. Above was a misty weald of noble grandeur; its spectral branches held fruit of golden fire. The tree of Asioth nourished landless nations, and subjects formed themselves upon its red-gold earth. Thus First-Born won the golden prize of his freedom, escaping captivity by Asioth: growth. When still young, I thought of myself as wise. I knew not what it was to be a warrior, nor what it was to suffer. I had not taken a life, nor had I seen what it was to be close to death. Now that I have, I know that stagnancy is the curse of the mundane. It is resolve that gave me the will to resist the offer of strength from the daemonic. When warm blood became cold because of my actions, I learned why naivety has no place when one holds lives in their hands. I am Student and Teacher, Peer and Outlier. Our Path is Unending. Sealed by a lamb of golden wax and scented lightly with the aroma of rose and myrrh. The parchment itself was reminiscent of that which was used in the Library of Eldwyn. Delicate cursive was scrawled across the papyrus. ∘☽•·•━━━━━━━━━━━━⊱༺︎༓︎༻⊰━━━━━━━━━━━━•·•☾∘ I have spent many years as a scholar, steward, and soldier for the city of Eldwyn. My life has been devoted to the people of Caurost, and I seek your approval to serve on the People’s Congress as your voice and your hand for justice. Caurost and its people have influenced me to take on traditions I would otherwise be indifferent towards. I've learned through these years, training my mind and body, so that I may become a protector worthy of the Praeven’tir and those I call kin and lliran. With the approval of the Prince and the aid of the people in their many donations, I built the Library of Iussus Discipulus, a library and guild made for the sanctity of our people, to welcome and broaden our horizons on education. I have used my knowledge to become a teacher. Not only have I worked as a Scholar, but I've also helped this city expand by shepherding countless mali to new homes and enumerating the city's taxes. When some citizens were short on coins, I covered the difference. My contributions to the city also extend from my job as a seamstress—the coin I make goes into the city, no matter the peace or war. I keep only that which helps feed me and mine. This behavior shall extend to my involvement in the seat of Ilindore, where my needs are put aside and the people’s are raised in their place. So I beseech now upon those of my kin, my home, to decide whether I am worthy to sit upon the seat of Ilindore as your voice. Everything I do is for the benefit of the people. My labor is yours, as it has always been. Allow me to take the weight off your weary shoulders. I will take it not as a burden but as an honor and duty to venture further into the nation’s future. ∘☽•·•━━━━━━━━━━━━⊱༺︎༓︎༻⊰━━━━━━━━━━━━•·•☾∘ Penned by, Lady Isilmelire Aduiladyr Acal’Turrii Head of Iussus Discipulus Praeven’tir and Osprey of the Ivory Crown
  9. The young Acal'Turrii would give a faint, "woot!" At the sight of this missive. She jumped up from her seat, running off to show the papyrus to her cousins.
  10. The Pale Wick would think back to when such hunts were commonplace, centuries had passed since then. A shame that such a barbaric tradition was on the horizon once more, she thought. Her gaze turned to the window, paper crumpling in hand as it was flung into a hearth.
  11. The yellow-eyed magi would give the missive a quick read before discarding it, going back to her regular and mundane activities.
  12. The Library of Disciples 22nd of Snow's Maiden | Year 221 of the Second Age The Library of Caurost calls for the donation of elven literature. In our search for tomes to fill the shelves, we’ve found that books on our people are woefully limited. As such, the Iussus Discipulus extends an invitation to all elves who have seen the cities of old to detail their history. Any tomes on the Maehr or Mali’ker would be greatly appreciated to aid in the restoration and understanding of tradition for the children of those peoples that have gathered in our walls. Our library is open for trade between others, missives and couriers will be sent soon enough to endorse this. An Update The library, Iussus Discipulus, is not only a place where one must sit and read but also a place for lessons and research. As such, to light the proverbial hearth ablaze, one new position has been made for the library—that of Professors. Those who fill this role are separate from the main institute as their positions are temporary; they do not maintain the tomes or artworks. They answer first to the Scholars and then to the Head Librarian. These are roles offered to citizens and non-citizens, hence the lack of permanence. The first of these positions is the professor, a role geared towards experts in their fields. Master Magi, Alchemists, Medics, Historians, and even warriors are the people we call for. Their duties are crafting a record of the lesson to present to the Head Librarian and hosting the lesson. For such a task, they will be compensated. 13. T H E L I B R A R Y O F T H E D I S C I P L E S ∘☽•·•━━━━━━━━━━━━⊱༺︎༓︎༻⊰━━━━━━━━━━━━•·•☾∘ Founded by Lady Aduiladyr Acal’Turrii 17th of The Deep Cold, 216 S.A. ∘☽•·•━━━━━━━━━━━━⊱༺︎༓︎༻⊰━━━━━━━━━━━━•·•☾∘ Elves are believed to be erudites of knowledge. Though elven societies have proven to be, in some cases, short-lived either at the consequence of their own vices or wanton genocide at the hands of others, they’ve learned to preserve the teachings of those before them through means of literature. Their tomes, however faded and frayed their pages become, have become vaunted testaments of historical preservation and endurance to Malin’s kindred. An artist’s rendition of the elegant, stonework interior of the library. I. O V E R V I E W Founded in 216 S.A by lady Aduiladyr Acal’Turrii, the Iussus Discipulus stands a revered beacon of academics, scholarly study, and innovation among the venerable elves of Cauróst. Scholars of the library are expected to be learned not only in literature, but worldly exploration and firsthand discovery as well, for it’s believed that true knowledge is acquired not only through intellectual analysis, but grounded experience. It’s these dual principles that call for a careful balance for the methods of which their scholars teach, lest one is neglected over the other, and thus out of balance. II. D U T I E S Although the core responsibilities of the Iussus Discipulus includes the safeguarding and upkeep of city literature, they’re likewise an integral component of local academics and public service in the form of both internal and external scholarly affairs. This may manifest in the form of public lectures on city history, exploration and expeditions, the preservation of local artwork, and even collaboration with other academic institutions. Preservation I. Scholars are to ensure the protection and upkeep of literature. They shall not be tampered with, stolen, modified, nor damaged under any and all circumstances. Local city art, notably, the marble garden idols, are to be documented proper for the purpose of historical retelling. Innovation II. Scholars are beholden to be pioneers of accomplishment and ambition. They shall not laze in their duties, for one of their many purposes shall be to guide others, of which cannot be done if they cannot first guide themselves. Exploration III. Scholars are to be stewards of trailblazing. They shall chase after knowledge, discovery, and understanding of the world at all costs, in order to fulfill their duties to themselves and the Caurósi people. Public Service IV. Scholars are to be in guidance of the people. They shall dedicate themselves to the needs of education, lecture, and teaching of the whims of the city and worldly affairs, both internal and external. III. B E L I E F S One of Caurost’s many tributaries of ideas includes the virtues of ambition, innovation, and accomplishment. It’s believed that the duty of every elf is the fulfillment of life, accomplished legacies, and changing the course of history, of which they’re afforded a millenia to achieve. It’s this forward-thinking ethos that inspires the philosophy of the Iussus Discipulus to not only be taught in the ways of literature and academics, but exploration and discovery, that their purpose is not relegated to the confines of shelves and nooks, but conscious action. IV. H I E R A R C H Y Head of the Library - Holds absolute authority over the library, second only to the High Prince - Responsible for the safeguarding and distribution of literature - Expected to fill the ranks of library staff - Responsible for ensuring library duties and upkeep are fulfilled - Responsible for pursuing collaboration with other academic institutions Scholar - Trusted staff of the library - Expected to assist the library head in the fulfillment of their duties - Responsible for training in and overseeing custodians - Expected to aid in local city services, such as hosting lectures or documenting marble idols Custodian - Newly hired staff of the library, possessing minimal access to books - Expected to contribute to the library’s book collection If you’re interested in work at the Iussus Discipulus, contact Lady Aduiladyr (@__Hergh) for a brief interview. Rising from her cot in a rundown hovel, Aurinia prepared to return to the other Wicks. It was a simple task; all she owned was able to be put in one bag.

  16. “Man before Asioth and the fool will waste his life thinking he can decipher it, while the wise knows he will die having found no answer, but try nonetheless. A man is a journey.” - The An-Gho —————————— —————————— “Trees reach for the heavens; they seek without growing.” - Vessel of Eternity —————————— The Gift of Divine Privilege | The Golden Path of Seekers In this observation, I will use the statement that this is man's path sparingly. Even in the eternity of the ascended, they still seek the culmination of the golden gift. The Path is a long and winding road; one without a clear destination, it is in every step you take leading you on and on until the very end. In a morose sense; your destination is your demise and rebirth. Whether that is to be taken in the literal sense, or it is the idea that a rotting corpse provides fertilization for new life to grow. If you are to take examples from those about you on their path; the mali’thill of the motherland draws a path of eternity, maintaining ancient beliefs of purity. Some believe that to be truly pure, they must have the strength to control their emotions, to not deviate from the laws of the cihi’thilln. To bring on a new generation for their ideologies to be passed on to. And even then, those thoughts vary greatly. For those of the canonist church, to reach the heaven they speak of with such admiration, you must follow the scriptures. The first of the scrolls is that of Virtue. It details the seven commandments that all must follow. In all of these, there is an inherent similarity to the Golden Path; and that is the beauty of the struggle that all go through in their unending trek. This is a path unique to each who begins down the road. Some may think they are to follow the worn beat of others, and some may walk through the tall grass and etch their way anew. Those who aspire for strength and power; may feel that their path grows stagnant upon achieving their grand design. A King grows weary with the weight of his people upon his shoulders. A warlord who strives for conflict may grow bored when there is none to be had, from something to nothing once their path is lost. And thus are the branches of the tree, new ones are found when the width of the one they are on grows thin. The path is eternal and winding. When you feel that you’ve come to an impasse, you must only turn your head and take the first step in a new light. From student to teacher, teacher to student. Only with the light of divinity are we provided the sustenance for continuance. But the gift is not only the journey, it is the light along the way. In all things may we find this proverbial gold. From the rain that breaks a drought to the white flag in a hopeless war. It is the wind that lifts the sail in the middle of the sea. The kind words of a teacher tell the students that they have learned. Even without sight or sound, we may still wander forth by the will of the heavens. It is by the Gift of Divine Privilege that we are capable of these thoughts. And it is our deficiency that the threshold is not yet tangible. The Gift is an omnipotence indescribable by mundane words. And my words. . . an oversimplification of its glory for better understanding. —————————— All things ariseth from One by the will of One, and so all things cometh from this subtle process. - The Divine Gift —————————— Written by | Adyr the Golden Lamb |
