Dear Fellow Mage, I also have noticed the lack of new mages and the steady dying of the art. While unfortunate for us with nostalgia for it, at this point, we must face an unfortunate truth; it's simply not worthwhile for the younger generations anymore. Spells that take us 30 years to master are now significantly less effective than a throwing stick, bow, and especially potions that can mimic the most powerful spells in our arsenals. Worse, the social stigma has gone from the nuetral state it was in Aegis and the following early lands to being associated with the equally changed void creatures. Where once they were neutral knowledge seeking types, complex, unknowingable, and profound, they've become nothing more than mindless goopy monsters with a generic 'kill all life' mentality that makes them good for aimlessly throwing at any group who needs something to kill. Ontop of all that, the inability to safely gather is a truth we can not ignore. Auengelic mega bomb entities, their followers, and other large groups seek easy targets, and many magi would rather not 'click'. In groups, we make easy targets, and they can back up their claims of bringing justice through the actions of modern void creatures and dark mages who also get to use it. TLDR; Void magic in its current state is not worthwhile. It's weak compared to mundane options, carries a negative social stigma, and gathering simply makes mages easy targets. Short of removing the potions that mimic our spells, shortening charge times, making the void truly neutral again, and finding SOME sort of protection of the major armies seeking easy targets, I don't see how it will flourish anytime soon.

I love the idea of certain potions being locked behind Sorvians, and having potions that only work for them. We need more CA race advantages, specifically for crafted CA's like this to make up for what they lack in being able to learn certain magics and do normal descendant things! +1

RAGUEL | To Lurin and Xionists
Clayphish replied to Werew0lf's topic in The Church of the True Faith
"I don't like Raguel that much. But I disliked The Hollow far more than anything Aevos has dished out so far, including him. So you can bet your sweet bippy that I will keep whistle blowing and weaponizing anything I can against tears like yours until you learn better. Or one of us dies. And I'm not dying anytime soon, kiddo." -
I've known Mick for a few years, and while I'm not always a big fan of the crowd he runs with, I think issues lay more in the system than him. A ban for metaplay seems heavy-handed, and I would like to rp with him again soon. If this about raids and wars, I would like to suggest perhaps a way to allow pvp groups to pvp. And for smaller, or more writing and lore heavy groups freedom to not have to put up with pvp raids. Perhaps map and settlement zoning where pvp via Minecraft clicking is or isn't allowed? Not protection against all conflict, just crp only. I feel like it would allow certain groups to pvp with others like them and still have a good time while not allowing any group to dominate or bully the server communities through pvp attacks.

-1 No offense of course. It's well written and you clearly put effort into it, but I breathed a huge sigh of relief when they got rid of electric evo the first time. Electricity is inherently more powerful than most things, and makes for too powerful of a force to easily be balanced. I'd rather not get all my own magics blown out of the water by this.

"... Well, this isn't going to end well for them." Tahorran grimaces at reading this. "I thought the point of the tribe was to get up and move when trouble arrived. Why are they just sitting there in the face of total destruction? Everyone knows Oren is the largest war nation in Almaris, only ever rivaled in strength by the dwarves. Taking them on and making themselves a target is just asking to get wiped off the map." She sighs and lights a thin cigar. "I hope at least the nice ones and children can be slipped out before the crusaders start trampling this place."

Fruits of our Labor: A Guide for Beginning Medics
Clayphish posted a topic in Arcas Human RP Archive
Fruits of Our Labor: A Guide for Beginning Medics By Doctor Opal Fritz So, you’re in a war with no magic or weapons surrounded by giant man eating monster men. Sounds like tough pickle! The good thing is that you happen to be standing in a garden. At this point, very few forces in nature could possibly stop you, because unbenounced to many magic users or armor clad men, nature has found ways to stand against the onslaught of violent natural threats that YOU can will be able to use to survive, or even save your friends in this crazy world. Through this book, I am going to pass on my knowledge from seventy years on the medical field about the basics of medicine, and even weaponized flowers and other plants for those emergency situations (which may or may not be war related). Use small amounts of Zawabate, if available, to help speed along any recovery-worthy injury. WARNING: Do not overdose patient on Zawabate! Could cause mental illness or death! Section 1: First Aid Stab wound/gash Severe burn Fever Frostbite and Hypothermia Broken Bone Stomach Illness Paranoia / Extreme stress Starvation Dehydration Lost limbs Birth Control Section 2: Miscellaneous Hydration and Food Non-magic vs. Magic healing: Which is better? Weaponized herbs Complementary Volume: Book of Herbs (ooc link for locations and information on medical herbs.) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gAdwM44PS86KTPulQHo6w5CfmKLOJz6-JKzLnElYVO4/edit?usp=sharing Section 1: Stab wounds/gashes In the case of a cut or stab wound (say a knife stabbing or slash from a sword), the first thing you MUST do is ensure that whatever or whoever caused the wound won’t attack you in the process of your healing. This can go for any injury, honestly, but it’s important especially in the case of enemy territories or war zones. Once the area is safe enough for treatment, you follow the following basic steps: . Slow the bleeding with Tippen root or by applying pressure until manageable. . Clean the wound with alcohol and remove foreign objects (and if large or barbed, wait until you’re at a clinic, medical tent, or facility with other healers around if possible. Removal may cause more damage if one isn’t careful). . Apply Blissfoil, Frost Vines, or Atheros to reduce pain as needed. . If the wound is more than an inch deep, pack it with cotton or other absorbable, clean material. This may need cared for for several days and changed regularly. . Use a clean needle and string to begin the process of suturing the wound closed. Start from the middle and work your way out with individual tight knots. .Finally, apply some gauze and bandages tightly, but not tightly enough to stitched wound. Use Jailor Moss adhesive as an adhesive as needed. .Make sure that bandages, gauze and packings are replaced on a daily basis, twice maybe for heavy bleeding. Severe Burn Depending on the severity of the burn, most can be treated by a little Serpent stalk, a cleaning, and some bandages. However, with a deeper, more severe burn, the treatment may become a bit more complicated. For a burn that reaches deeper into the skin, or to the bone, use the following steps for the best results: . Apply Serpent Stalk or Aqua Nymph heavily on the skin to numb burning until patient is calm. . Clean and cut away completely dead and burned skin, applying Tippen root as needed to slow the bleeding. . Apply disinfectant such as alcohol to clean the wound once more. . Finally wrap with gauze and bandages, pack as needed. Fever Has your magic user overheated again? Or maybe a friend of yours ate a random plant out of the woods again and is red as a lobster with a high temperature? Well fevers are a relatively easy thing to cure. . Have the person rest in bed, or somewhere safe and warm. . Lay a wet cloth over their forehead for immediate relief. . Have them eat a few inches of serpent stalk. If they’re unconscious or delusional, inject them via syringe with a few oz’s of serpent stalk concentrate. . Give them lots of water to drink, and make sure other aspects of their health are kept up during bed rest. Frostbite and Hypothermia Brr! It’s a cold, cold world out there, but sometimes people just want to not wear proper clothing! If you have a friend who’s shirt allows his nipples to say ‘hello!’ to the world, or one who’s skirt is so high that her rear cheeks play peekaboo when she walks, it’s a good idea know how to treat frostbite and hypothermia. ---- Avoiding Hypothermia in Extreme Cold: . Remove any wet clothes or garbs of any sort, even if not near a source of warmth. . Find shelter from wind chill and gently warm the body. . Offer warm (not hot) liquids, and avoid alcohol. Inject small amounts of gently warm water slowly into the wrist with a syringe if patient is unconscious ---- Treating Frostbite: . Gently warm damaged skin, and do not rub or rupture blisters, if possible. . If blister pops, disinfect, apply painkiller, and wrap the wound as soon as possible. . Remove flesh if it’s blackened, or otherwise dead, and continue to treat it as you would a normal flesh wound. Broken Bone: Whether it’s a tiny crack or the bone is shattered, a fracture in a bone needs treatment for it to heal correctly. For a single break for crack in the bone, the process it simple because the body automatically will begin to mend the bone itself with soft flesh that surrounds it. . Make sure patient has no further injuries or is in shock (if in shock, lay patient down gently and elevate hips and legs above head level, if possible). . Stop bleeding immediately, if there’s bleeding. . Set the bone in place and stabilize it with wrappings and a straight splint made of a smooth stick of metal or wood for limbs. . Wrap heavily or apply a cast. ---- Broken ribs Broken ribs are common, and luckily (unless they’ve punctured an organ or are at risk to do so) there’s a layer of flesh around each bone that will keep it in place and it’ll just take time to heal with some pain killers. In the case of a shattered rib that’s broken through the soft flesh and is fully separated, then it’s time for surgery! . Make sure your work space is sanitary and safe. . Lay the patient down and given them Javen’s root, and wait for them to go unconscious. . Clean area around broken rib with alcohol or other disinfectant. . Use scalpel to make simple to create a flap that will give you access to the bone. (It should look something like this: I_I ). . Control bleeding areas with Tippen’s root. . Carefully remove small shards that may harm the patient, and place rib back into place. . Use a needle tool to create holes in both the already connected bone and the broken off piece. . Place stainless metal insert against the wound (the metal insert should already have holes), and gently screw the insert onto the bone to connect them. * note: Metal insert should not be large enough to be noticeable or have any edges that will cause irritation or bleeding. . Clean area thoroughly before closing the wound. . Suture and wrap area after another disinfecting. Stomach Illness Uh oh, the child in a household has a stomach ache? It’s a common little thing that sometimes happens after eating something bad or having a belly bug. Luckily, there’s a few ways to help ease the little one’s (or big one’s, adults get it, too) pain. . Mint: Making some mint tea or just chewing on the leaves is minty fresh way to ease a troubled stomach. . Apple Cider Vinegar: If you can stomach it, the acid should neutralize whatever’s upsetting your belly. . Placing something warm on your stomach: this works with cramps as well, but it’s one of the few reasons I’ve ever found cats useful! A warmed blanket, towel, or pillow will work as well. * Just make sure that the stomach ache isn’t something more serious, and to avoid dehydration. Even light foods like white breads or crackers will help ease the pain and keep the patient from getting more stomach aches from hunger. Paranoia/ Extreme Stress Sometimes you meet people who are under a lot of pressure or just plain weird (ooc: I’m looking at you, edgy people who love making randomly insane characters). Luckily, there’s herbal remedies and a few verbal ones that every medical professional should know. . Firstly, if the person seems like they may become violent, /your/ life comes first in a one on one confrontation. . Do not escalate the situation, and use a calm tone. A good way to speak to someone who may be dangerous is to sympathize with them, even if what you say at the time is not true. You need to not have their aggression targeting you while they’re dangerous. Example: Possibly violent person: “Those damn elves deserve to die!!” You, even if you like elves and know they’re good people: “Mhm, those elves are nasty folk. I know how you feel.” . Talk down the person by offering solutions or changing the topic to something more pleasant. Always keep a friendly, calm tone. . Once the person is calm, if you’re able to, have them drink Halfling Grass tea or smoke some Cactus Green. This should calm them down completely . Do NOT argue with a possibly dangerous angry person. Starvation It’s a sad day when, in a land where magical potatoes can fall from the sky, that some folks may find themselves in situations where they become severely starved. But, any medical professional should be ready to see it when it happens and resist the urge to just give them large amounts of foods. . Do NOT give a severely starved patient solid foods. This may cause internal problems, or death. . Give the patient small amounts of warm sugar water to begin with, and let them process it. . Next, once they’ve successfully ingested and processed the sugar water, move onto liquid foods like fruit juice and Blood Lotus powder mixed with sugar water. . After this, small amounts of food can begin to be served to the patient and grow in portion size for every meal until it’s a normal size. . If they begin to react adversely, stop immediately and go back to sugar water. Dehydration Dehydration comes on much faster than starvation, so keeping clean water on your person is very important at all times, even casual situations. In the case of a severely dehydrated person. . Identify dehydration by looking for: Lethargy, paleness, fever, vomiting, dizziness, swollen tongue, dry mouth. . Give the person small amounts of water over time until symptoms pass. . If patient is unconscious, administer small amounts of clean, warm water with a syringe after disinfecting the skin. Use a different needle for every patient. . Pat arm and rub the area to help get the water moving along. Lost Limbs Oops! There goes Gregor’s arm. It’s the middle of a civil war and an enemy soldier has just taken off your allies arm! Luckily for Gregor, with immediate treatment, a missing limb isn’t often lethal. Get your hand hooks and peglegs ready, because missing limbs don’t often grow back! . Use Tippen’s root to stop the bleeding, and press on the wound to stop bleeding while the herb takes effect. . Once the wound has stopped bleeding, give the patient Javen’s root if they can’t sit still. . Cauterize the wound as soon as possible, and apply blissful to ease pain. . Wrap the wound and keep the patient resting in the clinic or tent until they’re out of the danger of going into shock and they’ve recovered from blood loss. Birth Control I’ll never understand the idea of ‘causal’ relationships, but if they’re happening, it’ll be best if there’s no accidental babies being involved when the parents have no plans on settling down. This treatment for this is very simple: . Before intercourse, eat the flower of a Black Sun’s Spinster plant a few hours before the act is done. . Wash it down with some water and make sure it’s in the system before doing the do. Section 2: Hydration and Food As an authority figure on health, people will often look to you as an example for health. So, it’s best to know how to take care of yourself and those under you. . Water is the most important part of anyone’s diet. Drink anywhere between six to eight cups a day, if possible. . Eating a balanced diet everyday of three larger or five smaller meals a day will keep you active and able to think logically for portion control. . Balance out meats (especially red meats), grains, fruits, and vegetables in your diet. Starch based meals are good for beginnings of the day. . Grilled foods are fine, but deep fried foods are the root of all evil. Non-magic vs. Magic healing: Which is better? Healing types and which is superior has been a sensitive subject between medical professionals for years, but there’s a simple answer to which is better; Neither! Comparing magical healers to herbal healers is like comparing apples and bananas. When you want a fresh cup of juice, it’s best to use an apple. But if you want a kick of potassium, the best go-to fruit is a bannana. The same logic applies to magic and herbal healers. The magic users are shiny, more spectacular, and can heal extreme injuries like a broken backs and dark corruptions. Meanwhile, herbal healers can treat growths, diseases, and not run out of steam after only a few healings. The best healers are going to be the ones who take both types as valuable, and try to be ready for both. Teams of magic healers and herbal healers have been known to do great things with one another in the medical field. Weaponized Herbs: There are many different times when you’ll need self defense, but might just be proficient in herbal remedies and not so much combat with blades and such. While it would be worth the time to learn proper self defense, there’s a few tricks of the trade any herbalist can learn about. Drake’s Tail: A vine of Drake’s tail with the thorns scraped off the base makes for a great weapon against enemies with exposed skin. A simple prick from one of it’s thorns will burn immensely and cause fevers within a few minutes. This can be used to bargain with your enemies, threatening to not treat them for the fever if they don’t back down. Raw vines grow wildly in deserts and savannas, so careful where you step! Joker’s Scum: It’s difficult to get a hold of, but if you can get your hands on a glass jar of Joker’s scum, it can be used to melt organic materials, such as faces. It’s essentially the alchemy fire of the natural world. The sacks are located deep under sea water. * Note: It does not melt iron, gold, glass, or other non-organic material. Singed Kha: Although it won’t burn like Joker’s Scum, Singed Kha can be dried and powdered. Once it’s in that state, throwing a handful into the helmet of an armed figure can cause burning in their eyes and and lunges once it’s in their face. Dry the petals of singed kha, who’s petals look like kha pelts, and then powder it. They’re located in jungles. Night Sap: If you have your syringe handy, and an enemy’s exposed skin, then Night Sap might save your life. Even a small dose injected into a person will knock them into a deep sleep in a matter. Extract the sap from strange growths on oak trees. Mandragora Spores: Difficult to harvest and located in swamps, mandigora spores can be used to paralyze your enemies as long as they breathe. Keep a bottle of spores on you to break against someone’s upper chest or face, and they will quickly start to hallucinate, then their bodies will lock up and become paralyzed soon after. Cut the spore sack out of mandragora plant before it releases it into the air, dry them, and then pop open the dried sacs to extract the spore dust.- 1 reply

Opal thinks back to Karrysov and his fall from power while tending her bokolo. "Huh ... I wonder if he did the mature thing and found a new, productive job in life where he eats normal food and earns a living wage, or if he did the angry toddler thing of not working, eating trash, and seeking revenge by ******* himself over ... I'm sure he did the mature thing. He lost his magic and government title, not his ability to lift 20 pounds and stand for eight hours."

Student Applications Full Name: Namyra Age: 256 Residency: None Major Subject: Hiebe College for the Mystic and the Arcane (Golemancy) Secondary Subject: Hiebe College for the Mystic and the Arcane (Arcane) Please compose a well-written paragraph, explaining why you’d like to attend the Holm Academy, and what opportunities you may pursue with your degree. I'd like to learn and help expand gollemancy into new regions of the art. While I understand that it's traditionally a dwarven magic and not one usually spread into elven cultures, I'm willing to learn the deep histories of the dwarven people and learn their ways to explore this fascinating art form. As for archanisum, I've seen it been used in public and am curious about exploring into the depths of voidal magics. ((Ign: Clayphish)) ((Discord: Clayphish/PorcelainPuffin #7446))

The elder Ascended sighs at the flier. "You know, we could do our job if cities let us do our job instead of naming us cultists, making up lies about selling our souls, and making us kill-on-sight. It's like throwing your sword in a river and then blaming the sword for not being at your side anymore ... At least we have a few names to work with now."

I don't think this is itself should be accepted, BUT it's an idea that could spark lore for maybe those crystals you mentioned. Making a sort of magic magic battery that could be used to make a handful of things (different things at different tiers) could be a good idea. I'd flesh out the crystals and build a lore based on where they come from, what culture they originated from, what all went into inventing them, etc.

OOC notes: I like it, but I worry that it's a little limited just because the idea of balancing nature and civilization is complicated. It asks you if you agree if he is right or wrong in believing that nature is the greatest force known to man AND that civilization should be destroyed to protect the balance. I'd clear up which ones we agree with versus don't agree with, because my character would agree with it's power, but not that civilization should be destroyed. On another note, it's bared. People bare things, not bear. Bears are big and eat faces. Good job, otherwise! Keep it up :)

Opal claps loudly for the writer of this letter! "It's about time someone called him out with letters about his bullshittery! This is why you should treat people well and not stab them in the back like you did Heial all those years ago in exchange for sex from a dark creature, you met not an elven week prior, and who left you shortly there after! How are THEM apples, you snake in the grass!"

Banishment of the Regenerators, 22nd of the Grand Harvest, 1650.
Clayphish replied to Rig's topic in Atlas Roleplay Archive
Opal reads over the missive and shakes her head. "So, he puts armed dwarves on our doorstep, claims he'll kill us all, assults several Ascended, and frequently spends time outside the Dominion trying to kill us, and now we're the bad guys? The people living here are too smart. They won't believe this once they've heard the truth, luckily. Especially after that vision of Aeriel litteraly said he's become corrupt and greedy, and that we should take away his magic, but otherwise leave him alone." "He'd rather have his people killing their friends in the defense of his sparkly Auengul magic than lose it and move on peacefully. People won't stand for that once they understand the full situation and how little he values them." -

[Shelved]Lore Amendment: Plants Can't Have Babies
Clayphish replied to Wendigo's topic in Recently Outdated Lore
That's a a debate that involves putting a definition on Creature. Because if it's just something that isn't a descendant, then suddenly Striga (who've led human nations), Auenguls, Ascended, God's, Spirits, etc become creatures.
