The gleaming city lights of Caras Siol dwindle in the aftermath of draconine assault. The once illustrious eastern jewel bleeds skyward with pale, remnant plumes of haze that wept from barren canopies and scorched rooftop eaves. Thin layers of powdered soot blanket its once paved streets and bridges, lending the air a particularly acrid aroma that stung the eyes and choked the breath.
Soldiers are partitioned between the southron crusade efforts and the now scorched capital. Most are tasked with ground efforts and labor, such as searching for wounded buried among rubble, clearing the streets of debris and hazards, or ensuring medical kits are transported to medics. Yet for every day devoted to restoring the beauty of the home of the elves, scantly would it appear progress was even made at all. To bring the city back to health would be months effort at minimum, though the now pillaged coffers of the Ivory Crown would only further constrain restoration efforts and reduce the task to a test of charity for the eastern elves.
The Caurosians were neither the first, nor shall they be the last, to suffer the wrath of the dragons.
A D D R E S S F R O M T H E C R O W N
Issued by the Ivory Crown and Grace of the High Prince,
8th of Malin’s Welcome, 288 S.A.
lye’Mali lliran’leh ehya Cauróh,
It is with profound sorrow, yet open heart that I write to you. The errant siege at the hand of the draconic has rendered upon our city insurmountable devastation and grief, the likes of which we have not experienced in decades.
In this time of peril, it is incumbent that those capable of lending aid do so to their fullest, for it is such tragedy that shall invariably measure the altriusm, brotherhood, and goodness of our people. May it be that the light of Malin’s children cast their gaze evermore towards that luminous dream of his, that radiant eastern horizon of which our bastion guards, and in some few moons from now the tale of the dragons manifest not as fire and flame hailing upon the eastern elves, but of recorded history sat upon their shelves.
It is in the wake these affairs the I write to the people of Cauróst in order to speak plainly the implications of our assault.
I. ᴏꜰ ᴄᴏꜰꜰᴇʀꜱ
During the assault, opportunistic marauders sought to exploit the disorder in order to plunder a significant sum of the state’s treasury. While this loss has placed the crown in a considerable amount of financial debt, which shall assuredly necessitate measures of financial recovery, denizens are advised to remain at ease and neglect inciting alarm. The Ivory Crown remains secure, and efforts are underway to investigate the mystery of the draconic siege and these ravenous marauders.
II. ᴏꜰ ʀᴇꜱᴛᴏʀᴀᴛɪᴏɴ
In light of the havoc wreaked by the attack, efforts are hereby set forth in order to restore the city to its former grace. The able-bodied are called upon to turn their hands towards the cleansing of soot and ash, discarding debris and fallen stones, and the restoration of homes, halls, and streets scorched by dragonsfire. Much labor lies ahead for our people, for the breadth of the damage has proven considerable, yet not impossible to remedy.
III. ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ᴇʟᴅᴇʀᴛʀᴇᴇ
Foremost of our perils, is that of our resplendent Eldertree; the heart of Caras Siol. Dragonsfire has stripped away its canopy, and has left mere charred, vestigial branches in its wake. Whether its leaves shall bloom one day again is unknown, as is the question of whether it remains safe to even host should its frame succumb to injury and topple upon our city. It is for this that the Ivory Crown shall soon beseech the aid of the druids, who might lend their aid to see it healed, or even grown anew.
Lastly, it is imperative that I confront matters of my own condition. During the draconic scourge, I had suffered a severe inhalation of smoke while aiding in city defense and ground efforts. My wounds are non-lethal, though physicians have mandated several weeks of bedrest recovery, during which my public appearances and duties shall be few.
The affairs of the state remain in capable hands despite my temporary absence. Those with information pertaining to the assault are directed to the host of the Sunlit Covenant, anything elsewise to be lettered to me for action upon my recovery.
Until then, I offer my gratitude to those who labor towards the restoration of our city, the continued war against the draconic, and the withstanding health of our people.
Signed,
Galahad Ílumrin
High Prince of Cauróst, Prince of Malinor & Eldest Son of Húrin Ilumrin
