The great Storm raged and roiled across the waves, visible from the coasts as a constant reminder to the weary soul: they were trapped. And should they find condemnation upon the lands of the Mountain, there was no escaping it. Not that many wished to. For the siren call of the hills and valleys was strong enough for the most sea-loving of sailors to swear fealty to the waters of Aevos. Thus were the sea-dogs of yore tamed. Deep in the heart of a mali’ame, however, there grew a seed of restlessness. No rock was to be left unturned. No land or waters unexplored. Thus did the blessing of long life become a curse. For where next was she to go? Other descendants could have their fill digging into the lands and rending open the way to other realms. The wind and the waves were what called her. Ever moving. Ever changing. Ever restless. As part of the crew of Captain Alikos, Esvani was able to ease a portion of that urge. There was all the company a pirate could want. A life of sea salt lungs. But still did the Storm loom. Still were they shackled. Then came the day of those fateful orders. Lower the sails. Raise the anchor. Tie down what you can and brace for a storm. For if there was one thing worse than taking a pirate’s freedom, it was stealing his treasure. Nagas had made off with precious possessions of the captain and such was not to be tolerated. Esvani worked to the bone alongside her fellow pirates to brave the lashing winds and roaring, foaming darkness. Was it worth it? Attempting to accomplish what few others had? In the moment, it did not seem so. But when light broke at last, there came a sight she had not beheld in many a year. Open waters. It was as if she had not taken another breath since her escape from Almaris. The venture before them was long and dangerous. The call of Aevos dug its claws into their hearts and eventually dragged them back. But Esvani would never forget that taste of freedom. It was sweeter than any wine and more addicting than uruk kush. She could not be the same without it. Time passed, as it is ever want to do. From crew to crew, ship to ship, home to home, Esvani travelled. Ever restless. One day, she saw in the eyes of an orphan that same restlessness and she took him in. Piece by piece, a family grew about her. A loyal crew. But ever did she remember a horizon unburdened by heavy clouds. When the pirates and sailors banded together for Cormath, a hope blossomed. But it was not to last. Another captain took her in and then that captain was soon to pass. In all that time, no one else dared to brave the Storm. An idea took root. A daydream, at first, to ease the ache in her heart. But it soon grew into a want before becoming a tormenting need. She would gain a ship of her very own. As Orsathiel waged his war against descendants, Esvani gathered her motley crew and supplies for the chance to break through the Storm. Her dream became a reality in The Golden Heron. A three-mast beauty with cannons and amenities to see them through whatever may come. And so, when the shackles slackened, Captain Esvani sailed to freedom once more. Kalldur was a chaotic place of rest and resupplying. But the crew of the Golden Heron planted a phantom of Cormath there. The Seaside Inn, built from the wreckage of some poor soul who had once tried to sail through the Aevosian Storm, withstood parties, drinking, and roving bandit and darkspawn attacks. It was a small corner of the island that they called theirs but with it came a vision for a golden future. Though the island of Kalldur was nigh lawless save for walled settlements that dotted the coasts, there was a sorrow that came in leaving it behind. The next lands, however, would see Captain Esvani’s mark upon them. That golden dream would be brought to life. There was one hiccup, however… what port was she to dock at? Pirates were never particularly picky regarding who could be a part of their crew and Esvani’s was no exception. Cursed children, mages, and those who were rather dubious with the law made up those who called the Golden Heron their home. With the empire of man stretching its reach across the lands, places that would take them in, that would last, were becoming few and far between. Captain Esvani would be damned if she traded the shackles of the Storm for the shackles of a flippant nation. And so did she sail about the continent on the Golden Heron wondering where she would anchor her beloved ship. In her years of travel, the pirate captain had picked up on many a rumor. Several of which regarded a floating island that never remained in one place for long. Upon sailing the southwest waters of Azuras, she was surprised to see an island that matched the description of what she had heard so long ago. Except…this one wasn’t moving. Poor, poor Moruuna. What a tragedy that Esvani lived to see the death of such a legend. That she walked in a time in which there was the wreckage of a once lively market upon the corpse of a beloved tale. Perhaps Moruuna’s wish could live on long after her passing. The captain called her crew together and took them ashore to explore. The jungles had grown thick. Some of the crew whispered of a curse that had taken root there. Others claimed it had long since been cleansed. The pirate captain would see for herself. But the jungles were alive with many a curious creature. Birds screeched overhead, sounding akin to a banshee’s warning. Just when they were close to leaving the jungle and climbing the mountain, several vine traps were triggered, dragging members of the crew up into the air. It was chaos and plant creatures that had taken to calling the island their home challenged and fought with the pirates. All escaped with their lives but such an experience made one thing abundantly clear: the jungles of Moruuna were teeming with unexplored dangers. Yet what choice did they have? More than that…what adventures they could have! A land that’d drive any but the most daring to its coasts and far from it. They could build a port and settle upon the waters, ready to leave or defend if the island held some greater danger. And in the midst of war, turmoil, and hate, a pirate refuge would be found. A place where tales began and ended with a drink in hand. Lair Build and Infrastructure ·· ─ ·☠· ─ · · Why can this group not fulfill their roleplay niche in an existing settlement or nation? · · ─ ·☠· ─ · · A motley crew of cursed children, mages, and pirates, the world has become a difficult place to find somewhere safe that’ll allow such whimsy. Each one burned by a past of scars, they have banded together to create a place of rest and adventure for the weary soul under the guidance of Captain Esvani. Various nations have gone through phases of killing and hunting mages to targeting different demographics. From place to place the crew have wandered, finding that no settlement will take them all, often turning them away. In a time of constant change, who knows when the rules will no longer favor them? How does this lair add to the greater world around it? How will its existence benefit its roleplay group and the server at large? · · ─ ·☠· ─ · · The lair will serve as a hub for merchants, pirates, and those generally unwelcome under a nation’s watchful eye. It’ll provide a marketplace without restriction on what could be sold. There’s a second deck beneath the pier, for example, for more shady sellers to take part in. The inn itself will provide its roleplay through gatherings and get-togethers. It will also allow people a moment of respite either before braving the jungle, after adventuring in it, or simply a moment’s rest from another journey. Player events run by a few of our group will be held to explore and sail. Even battling back some of the more sentient yet aggressive creatures of the island such as the Green Thumbed Gisquer. There are currently no spaces for pirates and their ilk around the land. Nothing for sailors to fill that niche, the closest being the fishing guild in Petra, which runs along a river and focuses strictly on fishing and mercenary work.
  2. Another quiet day passed the Albans by. As quiet as it could in times of war. A breeze blew steadily, cascading down the hill. A group tread across the grass, heading towards their destination. Beside high stalks of wheat they stopped, brandishing fire, and losing it upon the fields! Flame burned bright, smoke climbed high, and horses galloped away, their mission complete. To the Empire. To the rats--pigs--living it up in those stone walls. To those that fight for a war, for ‘glory’, for bloodshed. To those that remain for the sake of bettering yourselves, not believing you’ll next be on the chopping block… Look around to the dead, the shamed, the ones marked as deserters. The death count grows higher each passing day. Who will be next? “Ave Imperium” Demons they parade themselves as. In their walls, their streets, their halls. What humans of God are they to act so ruthless? How can they possibly believe themselves acting in his word? To Hell with the Emperor. To Hell with each and every person that stands beside the Emperor. Who encourages his choices. Who enacts his commands with their minds still intact. To Hell with the Emperor who continues the tirade of those before him. Who finds no end to his bloodlust. Under his fist, countless denizens fall. No graves nor services will support the amount of dead beneath his feet. Futue te ipsum, Imperium The fire that burned your ally’s crops is only the beginning. Your crimes that you justify have consequences. For those who think themselves unable to do much, you’re wrong. Heed this missive as a call, continue to fight back against the Empire’s tyranny. Know that you aren’t alone in this fight, that this will not be the end. Lyrics that carried over flaming field. A tune for those tired of it all. —------- There is a tavern, a merry old tavern, Crowded down the street. Everyone loves its beer so brown But the imperials laughed and all came down To burn it ‘neath their feet. The mayor had a lovely cat, It gave its tricks and riddles. But yester-morn I saw it running, Eyes a-fright while men were humming, A merry sport for those imperials! Dark are the days and none are safe, Who knows what next they’ll ruin? But golden wheat will make my beer. A song for a drink to drown my fear. And I will live right through it! O’ woe is me for the flames I see, It kisses field and wood. There goes my beer, the price to pay, As allies and victims of the imperial way, “Ave Imperium.” Bathe it all in blood. “Ave Imperium.” None can escape the flood. —-------
  3. I've been thinking on the question for a few days. I didn't want to just skip over yours to answer the ones I did have an answer for right away. But now I have been thinking, thinking away.. I don't recall anything from Deshe's live I'd consider badass. She was often a meek character, daring only around those she was close to. Soris, I know she's had moments but I still can't quite remember much besides when she was fighting against creatures. Be it when she fought against a crackadonk with just two other friends, against the manticore with the Sillumiran.. or other such creatures. I do think that when she used to go on spy missions that was pretty cool of her. Maybe not badass, but still cool. Esvani is the best character I have to show off with badass moments. I mean she's a pirate for goodness sake. Be it when she helped face off against a wyvern, attended an undead ship to hunt treasure, literally become the right hand to a very high, influential darkspawn at one point.. there's many moments to talk about. Specifics are still difficult to come by, but there's most certainly more moments she's had. though remembering just one more as I type this, I looved her being the head of a crew. Commanding them and all. My favorite moment for Anette was when she literally stormed into a frost witch lair and demanded for her grandfather's corpse back. I mean, that was the defining moment that gave me a reason to play her and is why all this time later, I'm still playing her. If she never went there, if she never got what she did in that room, I'd likely killed her off sometime in the near future. But I didn't, because it drove a whole new path. For the other characters I've had, that didn't make as much of an impression on me as the big three.. I believe Copper once bit someone. She also attended the other musin in going into a whole different dimension. That place was very cool, as nervous as she was. Alver has no badass moments, unless you consider him literally killing a frog pet of his younger sibling to be such.
  4. I.. Amesti, there's so many. I'll try to go chronologically.. and try to stick to one or two memories per character. The first that comes to mind is during that short time in 2018. I think fondly back on hanging with those friends there. There were three of us that got a house in a little human village called Halsworthy. Rain, one of the friends, got permission to build his own garden outside of the city which I thought was cool. I remember another time during that era, we all got on donkeys and acted as a caravan selling goods. I loved sitting there on the back of one as we headed around. I don't remember if we sold much, the travel time I enjoyed much more. ..Though I think we did get attacked once? I'm not sure. This was also on a human character, I should add. I don't remember her name.. probably just 'Whisper', lmao considering on SRP I just named my character that. In the wood elven city in Almaris, I remember when Deshe was real young. I didn't know much about the server at that point, not how theft quite worked. On that wood elf I stole a bunch- literally ALL of the cows in the cow pen. I led them two by two back to where Deshe was staying with the woman who took care of her. Her downfall was being caught with the last cows by a Hou-zi, I think. He was absolutely surprised when she led him back to the house and showed the overwhelming amount of cows shoved into that small space. Her caretaker was even more surprised. She of course had to sadly return all the cows back to the pen. Initially she stole them because she was upset they were stuck there. A small pen to live their whole lives in, eventually to be killed off. The Hou-zi assured her they were taken care of well, and that seemed to make her a bit less upset. She least never stole them again. Later down the line I also love when she lived with basically her found family. A kha, two humans, a ghost, a wood elf, and a musin all living together. What fun that was! Soris I hold close a few favorite memories too. I loved when Soris and Vakas literally broke into Nim'bur's house.. the house that Deshe also lived in. This was when Soris was just a teenager. I think they broke in to just vandalize the house, I don't fully remember. There were other memories as she got older I can't fully remember. I know one time she was hunting a darkspawn that lived in the Oren underdark. When some of the underdark residents noticed her and asked her for her name.. she just replied 'Sorp' instead of Soris lmao. Another favorite memory with her was when Haelun'or was in its camping stage on Almaris, before Asul'hilea's capital was made. There was an ST event where cannibals attacked the camp and kidnapped Soris and Seth. Let me say that was SO much fun, though I was plenty stressed out in the moment. I even added that in the animatic I made, because it became a memory that Soris and Seth shared. I enjoyed that her azdrazi friend found them after they escaped and brought them back safe to the city. I've been thinking about this memory since I first read your question. I remember when Corann and Esvani went Team Rocket mode. I just.. I loved that so much. I wish they could go in their costumes again sometime. They did it initially to go to a mascarade. That one is out of order, but I just had to gush about it first. Backtracking, I LOVED going on the sailing event with Alikos and his crew. All the events we went on, it was wonderful. From starting the journey from seeing the man on the shipwreck on a rock to Heaven's Gate, and eventually meeting up with the NPC pirate guy that started with a K but I can't fully remember.. that trip is on my all time high favorite list. I also think when the sewer family was around the snowfort was fun. I still love reading over the screenshots where Corann and Esvani are whispering away, and then Siru and Folwin do it in retaliation. Though they don't actually whisper much.. before the two literally vault themselves through the window of the snowfort, directly in front of Siru and Folwin. Good times. Also a new memory that is quite recent is when Corann and Esvani were in the Vale. She did a storytelling jig of how she lost her hand with Corann adding the flare. 10/10 At long last.. I think I'm done. Like I said, I have sooo many. But those are the top favorites of the favorites! Ask me questions then!
  5. Hello! I am WizardWhisper, I go by Whisper. I’ve been on the server for 5 years now, according to when I joined the NGS Discord server. Truthfully I know I joined sometime in November, but I couldn’t remember the date. Thus, going by the NGS instead. I know on my forum account it says I joined in 2018, but I only played very sparingly. I was a part of a friend group that, with one getting upset/banned over another server, she wanted us to convene and play somewhere else! We tried two fantasy servers, the second one being LOTC. I don’t remember the first, besides it having some small town and we got to choose a tent to live in. I also remember getting stuck in a tree and having to have someone oocly come save me. Weird memories, definitely. When I came back to LOTC in 2020 I was growing so bored of the other server. Many of that old friend group were gone, friendships broken. Though funnily enough I know two of them still play on this server occasionally. In the end it was just me and a newer friend. With her, I got properly hooked on the game.. And the rest is history, I suppose. I’ve met so many people on this server, had so many interactions, both good and bad. I’ve gone through so many eras with my characters, so many that I still hold close to my heart. I write all this to ask whoever is reading this to ask me some questions. Let me gush about these memories, please.

  7. A certain Soris picked up a copy on her way out of the library, boredly scanning it over as she made her way home. Then something caught her eye and she squinted near the bottom of the gazette, re-reading it at least twice. "Wh.. Who put me in this?" She questions to herself, more confused than she ought be angry. The elfess drew in a sharp breath, tearing out the matchmaker portion. If only she could do the same with the rest of the papers.
  8. Soris strolled by the ballot box, placing away her own into the slot. Not a glance is spared as she walked past.

  11. Esvani tilted her head one way and then the other reading over the missive. It was difficult to read with a mask, near impossible even! With a huff she pulled it off and set it to the side, swaying her legs back and forth as she sat upon some wooden ledge. A grin stretched across her face as she read. "Love, just what have'ya gotten into now?" A chuckle erupted from the woman, kicking her legs faster in speed similar to a giddy child. All of a sudden she flops to the side, laying flat atop the ledge with one leg bent and the other still swaying in the air. High the missive is lofted above her, her thumb drawing along the edge of the woman's sketched face with a sigh. "You bet I'm goin' to come for'ya one way or another."
  12. The news eventually found its way to Anette per a visitor passing by the building the woman was caged in. It was beginning to spread and no doubt it would reach the ears of her captors soon. There were many thoughts that crowded in the woman's head, alongside many overwhelming fears that took hold of her all at once. Amongst it all, there was one thing that crept past all others. A new plan must be made.
