Guide to Street Performances

when you choose to perform for the public, do not simply do little magic tricks and such. Be extraordinary, be amazing! nobody wants to see a sad jester beg for coins!

Steps to take:

-to begin this profession, you must have a steady job. While performing is an art, it does not pay well :( So you Must have something to use for support in case you may end up at the Doc's chop shop in the city.

-Now as a performer, you may do as you please whether is it standing still as a statue, breathing fire, swallowing swords, etc. Even having a small halfling(Monkey) in a suit hop around can be done. the list goes on and on for your choice in performing.

-Once you know your act, you must find a populated area to get the most coin! Cities are often the best, but roadside does work fairly well. make sure you are where everyone can see, and draw in a crowd with your amazing acts!

-Once you have collected some minas, feel free to travel from one place to the next, a nomadic type if you will. This will allow you to spread your influence and get more minas!

-repeat these steps for every act you do!

RP:

The RP of performances are for show, and you are not trying to cause a disaster. try to emote as much as you can, depending on your performance.

performances such as statues require simple emotes such as

*----- Stands still in his position, not even a muscle moves*

Performances for sword swallowing looks like

*----- swallows the long, sharp sword, sending the blade down his neck. Soon, only the hilt remains visible, his arms spread out for applauds*

Performances such as fire breathing

*----- Drinks the small flask, and lights the thin stick on fire. He spits, the liquid too clear and fine for the visible eye, but a jet of flames bursts out in magnificence*

The list goes on and on with emotes, and these are just a few examples.

Now a performer can have several acts, instead of just one. This is limited to two, since the amount of practice and training is very strenuous and dragging.

Training:

In order for a performer to not kill themselves in any way, they must practice and train. A sword swallower must practice using blunt swords, and small ones as well. a statue must meditate for hours on end, and practice patience. These things will take several months to master, but can still be performed. However, they will not be perfect, and rolling would be needed to decide if the trick is successful.

BUT after a certain amount of time, the performer will no longer need to roll once the skill is mastered.

Average time- A beginner can only practice, and even then they are not skilled enough to be considered good. A statue would be unbalanced, and moves. Or, a fire breather would set himself on fire as he attempts to fire the flame.

Once about a week has passed IG, the performer will be better at said skill, slowly getting better. However, the need to roll is still prominent, but a second roll can be used if the first fails.

After roughly a month IG, the performer has nearly mastered the skill, and may roll three times at most to perform a skill. this shows that even some slip ups happen, as they are not experts at said skill

Once more than a month IG has passed, The performer no longer needs to roll, having now mastered said skill.

+DONT FORGET YOUR COSTUME IF YOU USE ONE(its recommended that you do)+

Now since you have mastered one skill, you may move on to the next. YOU CANNOT PRACTICE TWO SKILLS AT ONCE you may also teach skills to others.

Now here is a list of the skills one can learn(there are many and they are not restricted to these few):

Fire breather - can send a jet of flame to crowd *cannot be used for pvp*

Statue- can stand still in a single position for hours on end, and is able to move body with slowed, sped up, etc motions

Mime- can make the crowd believe an action is real in contact with an imaginary object

Sword swallowing- ability to swallow sharp swords with ease

Pick pocket/ sleight of hand - ability to remove articles of clothing and objects off a person without them noticing *please return objects we are not criminals...unless you are one then go for it* *cannot be a master thief and steal everything. it's at a small scale*

Impressionist- can mimic the voices of those around them exactly

One man band- ability to play multiple instruments simultaneously

(There are many others)

You may learn more than just two skills, but the main two you choose are your mastered talents. The others you choose to learn cannot be mastered, and have a higher chance of you messing up the act.

The Performer's Code:

~Every performer holds another performer with respect~

~A performer cannot fight/kill another~

~A performer cannot steal another's earnings~

~A performer cannot steal another's territory~

~If deemed successful, Partnerships are encouraged~

~A performer must respect his/her crowd~

~A performer must be safe for him/herself and the crowd~

~ Have Fun:) ~

The Performer's Council:https://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/122556-the-perfomers-council/#entry1177047

The Main reason for this guide is to allow a new style of RP in cities and on the sides of the road to flourish and be kept under control. We now have bards and jesters, but these are individuals that want to impress the public with their talents in different ways.

Also, with a severe lack of activity within far cities, the performers can help circulate a stream of RPers around Athera for large events, showings, and festivals. the list goes on and on.

So the performer's council will be led by the most esteemed performers to create events often around the cities.

*NOTE* You don't have to have a special persona for this!!! You can do this with any character as you please!!!

This is a very nice guide, and I agree for the most part! Except one part. I'd say that it is possible to practice more than one skill at once.

This is to add a bit more realism to the profession. While you can work on multiple things, it takes a lot of commitment to focus on a single talent. I will change it if it does become a problem

I mean.. I used to do stuff like this. I would be able to do magic tricks, ride an unicycle, do acrobatics, juggle and breathe fire. Sleight of hand tricks and acrobatics just took most time, while the others just needed to be learnt once.

If that is the case, I can change it to multiple tricks, but only allow two main ones that you have mastered.

Like if you have mastered fire breathing and riding a unicycle, but are somewhat known to slight of hand, you will need more effort to use slight of hand, and are more likely to mess up

I feel like the best thing you can do if you want to play a character like this is to have fun. Don't hamper yourself with arbitrary rules, you just need to have fun.

Oh, and, don't spam people with emotes. I found it gets annoying quickly, especially in busy places.

If you are performing publicly, check your audience. If you only have 1-3 people watching you in a populated area, keep your emotes shorter. If you have access to a larger crowd, feel free to show off.

I never meant to have this so players cant have fun, this was a way for it to become more realistic and to further character development. I know that many people wont really follow most of what is in the guide, but this is one way some players can go about doing acts within populated areas and know exactly how they want to portray themselves as within the act
