IC: The Carrion Throne Room

throne_room_by_yefumm-d4ghzcf.jpg

Within the royal palace of Abresi rests the King of Oren, Heinrik Carrion. The Carrion rulers convene in its new construction, willing to seek court among its many subjects scattered throughout Oren.

Graced upon the feast table is an array of traditional Raevir dishes; pickled herrings, garnished babalouche, sweetened potatoes and flasks brimming with a dark, murky Carrion Black™. Guardsmen and castle-strelts tend to the courtiers as they submit their pleas.

Should you choose to hold court with the King, you would find yourself sauntering through the dimlight halls, approaching the King and parleying, speaking of good commendations or ill condemnations.

Members of the Modern Carrion Bloodline

Siegmund "the Lord" [Havenok] (1379- 1447)

Responsible for revitalizing the Carrion House after the “Culling of Crows”, a massacre of the Carrions by rebellious Raevir knights of Nzechnov ilk, Siegmund is regarded as the champion of the Raevirs and chief architect of modern Oren. Starting as a lowly baron reaffirming his pledge to the Empire and House Blackmont in Kalos, Siegmund asserted power by combatting wayward enemies of his house in the Teuton-Blackmont War whilst establishing the Raevir enclave of Kralta, and its citadel, the Krelmstad. Preferring to make power-plays in the shadows, Siegmund slowly rose through the ranks and spread the Raevir culture throughout Oren.

With the splinter of Horen V’s empire, Siegmund swore himself to Savoie due to blood-ties toward his half-cousin Owyn II. The successor to Owyn upon his abdication, Siegmund sought to create a unified and efficient state from the husk of Oren. Beginning with his merging of the Raevir Kingdoms to the conquest of the Adunians and finally his forging of the twin Edicts of Oren, uniting humanity under his imperial divinity, Siegmund proved to be not only an excellent administrator but a better leader. He groomed his heirs well, selected his councillors with particular finesse, and maximized his resources to forge and shape the Carrion Vochna and Modern Oren. Assuming the title Imperial Divinity in his last years, he ruled with a heavy yet just hand until his death of natural causes. For his contributions in unifying the splintered realm of man along with exemplifying humility and piety, Siegmund was named a Saint by High Pontiff Lucien the Second.

Bourbon Carrion [TheNorthernBrit] (1334-1407)

Born as great-uncle to Siegmund Carrion, Bourbon spent his youth as a doleful swordsman. A younger son with no claim to inheritance, Bourbon’s source of income was his sword-arm, taking to the life of a mercenary among the early wars of Asulon. While his coin pouch ran thick with mina, his vagrant life soon collapsed on itself. In a drunken fit, he slew a dwarven prostitute and two patrons in a Kal’Dwain tavern. His sentence was three decades of hard labor in Kal’Karik and Mt. Ire, shuffling between dwarven holds to ferry coal and rock.

Upon his release, he return shamed to the court of his nephew, Boris. He acted as head of garrison in Castle Carrion, before later being replaced by a younger soldier. Without work, he took to religious texts to find his purpose until the Culling of the Crows. Managing to hurry along a young Diedrik Barrow to safety, Bourbon later accompanied Siegmund and mentored him in the Civil War of the Raevir Highlands, acting as an advisor, war-strategist, yet most of all, a father-figure in a time of need. Bourbon looked upon life with a happy, humble outlook despite his hardships, accompanying and aiding the grim Siegmund through his adventures the archipelago of Kalos and Elysium as a mentor before perishing en route to Anthos.

Goddard/Owyn II ‘the Able’ [AiiM] - (1381 - 1437)

Goddard, born as a bastard between Vladirusk Carrion and an unknown sister of the Faith, grew up with covert patronage from Vladirusk in a humble priory. He had little knowledge of his Raevir roots, and was immersed in the Orenian culture. Swiftly rising through the ranks in church peerage with his stirring sermons and humble acts demonstrating his piety, Goddard was soon only second to High Pontiff Lucien, who departed Anthos upon the great Exodus. He took the name Owyn II in his ascension to High Pontiff.

The Second High-Pontiff, Owyn II proves to this day to be the one of the most controversial head of the Church and the first of the revived Carrion monarchs. Despite his short reign which lasted only five years, he helped Siegmund thrust House Carrion into the leading power in Anthos by smoothening the reunification process of the fractured human nation upon the demise of the Horen dynasty. Abdicating in favor of cousin, Siegmund Carrion, he took to a quiet life tutoring the young Franz Josef Carrion and reviewing theological doctrine. He passed away in his sleep at the age of fifty-six. In contemporary society, he is viewed with mixed sentiment; some praising his efforts in unification while many others condemning his illicit use of church power.

Diedrik Carrion [Komodo445] - (1389 - )

Diedrik is the brother of Siegmund Carrion, born of bastardy. A loyal side-kick, steward, scribe and soldier, Diedrik was plucked from the rubble from Castle Carrion by a young Siegmund, and both sought to avenge their fallen family and bloodline. Despite their strained relationship at first, worsened by age, ideology, and the stain of bastardy, Siegmund and Diedrik grew to become closest confidantes and stalwart chums.

He is responsible for grooming the ward Heinrik Van Roy, insuring stability of House Carrion upon Siegmund’s disappearance along with his councillors, and a plethora of written accounts of the rise of the modern Raevir. A bonafide Raevir patriot and one among the strelesy, Diedrik’s firm loyalty and advisory cleansed him of his bastardy and earned him title “Count of the Barrowmarsh” along with now-defunct title Steward of Ruska.

Heinrich Carrion [XxPhogxX] - (1391 - 1427)

The bastard son of the late Siegfried Carrion and nephew to Siegmund Carrion, Heinrich was raised within Fickloch and trained as a plebian amongst Teutonic rank. However, upon his discovery of his bloodline to House Carrion, he chose blood over brotherhood, ridding himself of the Teutonic tabard in favor of the Crow’s garb. Heinrich is considered a war-hero of Kralta, his strength in combat unfounded and only matched by Siegmund in his prime.

Reputed for his famous weapon, the mace dubbed “Mush-maker”, Heinrich slew hundreds of enemies to the house, most notably garnering a dozen-and-half bloody Teutonic tabards over the course of an elven week. However, his brazen patriotism led to his demise; he was slain by Northern corruption in their strikes upon Kralta in a fevered attempt to defend the populace, his legacy in the prized Carrion heirloom of his mace.

Heinrik Carrion [Knox213] (??? - )

Heinrik "van Roy" Carrion was born under a matrilinear union between Ipera Carrion and Lord Roy Royce, a lord of the northern steppes. Due to House Royce's north-blood, Heinrik is the only living Carrion whom does not bear the Raevir crow's plume, but rather a thick straw-blonde. His birth and formative years were enshrouded by intrigue and rebellion; his father, Lord Royce and his Northman retinue kept their oaths to the Lord Carrion, yet the Royce lands were quickly conquered by rebel knights. His father and mother were hung, and the child van Roy spent nearly half a decade under rebel clutches as a hostage. However Siegmund,in his reconquest of Asulonian Raev, saved the boy from the bowels of the Royce dungeons.

Due to Siegmund's early years as lord demanding his full attention, Heinrik was passed along various minor lordlings for tutelage. Throughout this time, the fact that he was born of a Carrion union was kept secret, even from van Roy as Siegmund feared the boy may be used as hostage if it was known. However, upon his fifteenth year, Heinrik returned to the Krelm. He learned directly from the Lord of Crows about his penchant of warfare midst the Teutonic War, and the pair established a father-son relationship. He soon ascended through the ranks as came with age, going from head of Kralta's levymaster, to warden of Augustine and the Barrowmarsh, to finally Lord Marshal. In Siegmund's will, the Lord of Crows revealed to Heinrik of his Carrion blood and name, and dubbed him heir over the slothful Ostromir II, sacrificing the legacy of his bloodline to grant Oren a better King. Heinrik now rules as King of Oren.

Tuvya ‘the Golden’ [Chumpchump]  - (1408 - )

The only bastard and oldest of Siegmund’s progeny, Tuvya came from a supposed secret union between a younger Siegmund Carrion and Lorin Chivay. Tuvya, or birthed “Tuv”, was brought up in a Kaedreni orphanage. Growing up poor with knowledge of his mother, Tuv strived to prove his nobility, eventually collecting enough evidence to Siegmund Carrion to prove his bastardy. The Lord of Crows accepted and began to employ Tuv in his efforts to revitalizing Oren.

Tuv used his a 20,000 mina loan from House Carrion to create an economic empire within the Human Kingdoms, harvesting over two-hundred thousand mina and surpassing his idol, Toveah Goldman. He was no slouch in martial combat, founding the Abresi guard and connecting with many lowborn with his street-rat wit and past. His support in Ostromir’s usurpment of the Kingdom of Renatus led to him being cleansed of his bastardy and named first Prime-Minister of Renatus and First Maer of Abresi. Tuvya vanished with a host of Abresian guards, rumored to roam the west Kaedreni backwaters. While he returned briefly, the death of his father had brought him back to the path of sin and decadence as he departed from Oren politik to the unknown.

Fyodor Carrion [Cirdanoth] - (1411 - )

Fyodor was the firstborn of Siegmund’s legitimate brood. A disappointment to the his lord-father whom expected better of a firstborn, Fyodor was the subject of many hushed whispers and sighs in his youth due to his clubfoot, a crippling disfigurement which insured he could not undertake the noble arts of war. Nonetheless, Siegmund took the boy in as best as he could. While bluntly regarding the boy’s ailment as one unfit for a lord, the Lord Carrion offered tutelage from artisans and architects, enriching the boy’s man in a myriad of studies.

A prodigious architect and steward soon flourished from the boy, whom quickly coined the harvest system and became known as the greatest man to work with dirt and stone of his time through his resurrection of the Kaedreni wastes. However, his connection with his siblings are strained at best; Ostromir I often teased the crippled Fyodor about his clubfoot and inability to fight, Milena found him repulsive, and Franjo was too young to grasp Fyodor’s plight. After his father's recovery, Fyodor disappeared to the wild unknown. Some whisper of a suicide, but others believe he had been kidnapped by agents against the Carrions.

Ostromir ‘the Terrible’ [AiiM] - (1414 - 1443)

While war raged on only a handful of miles away, Helaine de Sarkozy was giving birth to her second son; Ostromir I ‘the Terrible’. Born as Teutonic siege fire ravaged the Dreadfort with King Peter Chivay and Marquess Siegmund Carrion planning the sally of the Dreadhost, Ostromir’s childhood was one marked with intense political pressure and warfare. Pampered and groomed to be heir of the Carrion Vochna, “Otto” attained a haughty and wrathful nature fit for a prince.

He began his rise to power when he usurped Sillus Horen and his marriage to Isabelle Horen, his height of power reached its zenith when he inherited the Kingdom of Salvus as a dual union under his crown, extending his reach to half of the Human world. Ostromir successfully brought Carrion absolutism to Renatus, after purging the noble houses of Renatus on his father's command as he became the first absolute ruler of Renatus and Salvus. Ostromir is remembered for his immense brutality and ability to execute his father's plans with utmost efficiency. “The Lords of Lordas and Bastard of ‘Bresi” is sang in his honor, for when he and Tuv put the corrupt bourgeois of Renatus to fire and sword. He was slain in cold blood by assassins at his bed-side, his body missing to this day.

Milena Carrion [Lady_Natalie] (1416 - 1434)

The only daughter to Siegmund Carrion, Milena was a dark, somber girl whom spent her time scribing poetry and novellas in her quarters. She rarely associated with other children and lived a sheltered, quiet life. However, she held wild fascinations and delusions of the grandeur of peasant life in comparison of the bleak, crippling life of a noble, associating with the strelesy rabble rather than her own noble kin.

Her relationship with her family was distant at best, only finding some company in her uncle Diedrik. However, his exploits with the strelesy only compelled her further to run away from home. At the age of sixteen, she took off with a wandering Raevir caravan. She has not been seen since and assumed dead, a blemish among the offspring of Siegmund.

Franz-Josef Carrion / Radomir I [iorwen] - (1418 - )

The youngest child and second unsullied son of the Apostolic King Siegmund, Franz Joseph or affectionately “Franjo” by family, was particularly sharp compared to his brothers. However, he was small for his age and possessed a particular stutter in youth, so he was often bullied by the local boys. In an effort to keep the boy from both the warfront and to remove him from the rough strelt children of Kralta, Siegmund sent the child as a ward to his half-cousin, Owyn II. There, Franjo opened to church doctrine, overcoming his stutter with Owyn and becoming renowned for his meticulous knowledge of theology.

Later in life, he was appointed by his brother, Ostromir Carrion, to the role of Archbishop of Renatus and has led the Church through several reforms, including crowning himself High Ecclesiarch of the Faith, in efforts to recreate the powerful clergy of old. He took the papal name Radomir I. However, the stress of papal life took its toll, and Franjo took to pilgrimage, leaving the Church to elect a successor.

Ostromir II Carrion-Horen [VonAulus] (1431 - )

Ostromir II is the son of Ostromir I and Isabelle Horen. From birth he became the leader of house Horen and thus became the first Carrion to bear the title “Lord and Patriarch of House Horen”.  He, upon his parent’s assassination, inherited the Kingdom of Renatus & Salvus, and later by his grandfather Siegmund’s will, the Kingdom of Oren. A naive, timid, yet earnest boy, Otto II bears the duty of sustaining the Carrion Vochna despite rebellion, anarchy, and reconstruction. After being reclaimed from dwarven clutches in the year 1445, Ostromir II took to the life of a cloistered monk, disillusioned with noble affairs.

Godfyrmir Carrion-Horen [pfmvaz1996] (1431 - )

The son of Ostromir I and Isabelle Horen and dubbed after the great Horen, Godfrey, Godfyrmir was named Duke of Kvaz upon his brothers ascension to the Crown of Oren. Unlike his twin brother, “Godfrik” is authoritarian, vain, and demanding, with a certain cunning beyond his years. He is currently being groomed for a life in the Church and Politics. However, his slothful and arrogant nature deemed him unfit for rule and he was cast out of succession by his grandfather. Godfymir, shamed and cast out of Orenian aristocracy by his Emperor, took to the streets and abandoned his noble life, missing to this day.

"Hail and good day to thee, thy Imperial Divinity. I come to thee today in high respect and even higher hopes. Word hath spread of a civil-war, and this word spreads with the haste of God himself. I feel as if the people art beginning to panic - a panic built by the knowings of the absence of a formal military order in thine great, and good, Empire of Man. Ever since a lad I hath enjoyed the great art of swordsmanship and adventure. My father, Theobalt the First, had taught me from a young age his profession in the world of military and it hath been kept to my head since. My thoughts wander and collect slowly, sire, and I hath developed a system of military for some years until this day I speak to thee. It hath been my ambition from such a young lad to create my own sort of order; a military, a guild, a band of soldiers of Humanity. I hath named this previously the Order of the Edelweiss, based on sigil thee may see on my tabard today. I am in full knowledge that thee currently think in thy head: "O young Theobalt, how might I trust thee with such a position as this? I hath only known thee for thrice a seed!" but think that not, sire, for I am strong. I hath learned to understand the meaning of pride and Humanity, and with this I hath elevated myself from such a young lad that I once was."

"Sire, I wish for thy gratitude in creating a military order for all that is good in Humanity. This order shall be a militant order - one that protects and conquers in the name of not only thyself, thy Imperial Divinity, but in the name of Humanity and God. It will take time for us to achieve greatness, sire, but that time shall be met."

With no small amount of apprehension, Charles gazes up at the towering citadel which sits, dark and foreboding, before him. A steady stream of courtiers and visitors pass by him, their heated bodies jostling against him, however he stands his ground, content to look at this massive citadel, within which lies what he hopes might be a future for him.

After a few moments more, his gaze slowly travelling along the extent of the vine and moss covered stone exterior, he lets out a breath he hadn't realised he was holding, and sets to heading inside. Battling against the near continual river of people swirling in and out of the towering gates before him, he slowly but surely passes through the gates of this grand and dark citadel. Upon doing so, he relaxes somewhat, and allows himself to be carried with the steady flow of humanity which is pushing it's way towards the throne room of the Imperial Divinity, and more to the point, a possible saviour to those around him.

The gushing flood of people slowly begins to slow as they enter the palace proper, the corridors with rich and ornate furnishings gently regulating the flow, and preventing it from becoming too great at any one time. Imperial soldiers stand on either sides of the stream of people, occasionally pushing at those who draw too close to the edges, and watching carefully for those who might decide to take advantage of the proximity to others to steal a wallet or piece of jewellery.

At one point, Charles feels a small hand feeling at his money-pouch, however with a quick slap and brief hold, his spidery fingers grasping onto the small hand with a firm grip until he lets go again, the hand is quickly deterred. Soon after, the corridor they are in widens out, and he gazes around at the throne room which he finds himself in.

From here, the fast pace slows almost to a complete halt, as person after person after seemingly never-stopping person make their case to the King. It is near three hours before Charles finally reaches the front of the line. Here, he waits his turn with growing impatience, the eyes which had taken in the walls of the exterior so calmly now flitting from side to side, taking in the view which had up till then been obstructed.

Finally, the man before him bows low and takes his leave, and Charles step forward, a firm hand from  one of the Imperial Guards sending him on his way faster than he would like. As he makes his way to the base of where the Imperial Divinity, Siegmund Carrion, sits, he bows low, his eyes averted from the figure before him.

"Your Imperial Divinity, it is a privilege to be allowed to speak to you today."

He coughs slightly, clearing his throat in preparation for the spiel to come, and with his eyes still averted in respect, he stands tall.

"I have come to you to inquire as to whether your Highness is in need of a skilled scholar and historian. I have recently found myself in need of work, having finished travelling around our world, and through perhaps that my skills may be of use to you. Whether it be in administration, historical documentation, or in an advisory role, whatever you see fit."

At this, Charles stops, clearing his throat again, and stands there, a serene expression on his face, whilst his mind works furiously, running through what he has said again and again, wondering whether something was badly worded, or if he forgot a portion of what he needed to say. With a slight shake of his head, he clears such thoughts from his mind using a little known meditative trick he picked up during his travels from a High Elf sage, and focuses back on waiting for a reply, his thoughts calmly breaking and receding like waves on a beach.

Siegmund glances between his courtiers. To dismiss an eager scribe from patronage would save a few mina in a time of rebellion and war. Yet, a certain Raevir pride prevented him from acting on logic. He pauses in thought at Charles's request, glancing at his fingernails, before shooting a sharp glare at the anxious man.

"Let us speak further in private. My brother has gone remiss in his scribe duties and perhaps patronage to grand records of our Carrion Vochna can sway rebels and solidify our right as rulers."

He motions to a guard to hand the young scribe a slip of paper to return on a later date when the Krelmstad Court was not so packed with Duma and summits.

With a thankful grin, Charles bows low in thanks to to  Siegmund, and quickly takes the slip of paper from the guard as he steps back. After running his eyes over the paper, he brings his head up, his eyes just off of the figure before him, still not ready to endanger this position by looking straight at him, and smiles warmly.

"My thanks m'Lord, I will return at a time which suits you better."

He nods slightly with some finality, and makes his way out of the castle, ready to look for some sort of home in Abresi as he waits a few days to return.
