comanderbly^ 499 Share Posted November 2, 2013 Hello LotC, As recently, my friend Knox321 was banned for "powergaming" or "power-emoting". I'd like to know if the Staff considers this situation powergaming. Roderick Crawford swings his scimitar towards John Edgy's chest. According to Haelphon, one hit killing is powergaming, yet, this would be a one hit kill (if John isnt wearing any kind of armor and if he doesn't defend himself). He has time to respond, as Roderick simply swung his sword, doesn't mean that it landed on John's chest. Thanks.
JooC 15 Share Posted November 2, 2013 i don't see how that's PGing. one hit kills are possible, and that emote looks like he's giving the guy a chance to defend himself.
Shadeleaf 1022 Share Posted November 2, 2013 Allow me to respond in depth: Right! So let's get something straight! Powergaming is defined as making your character a god, controlling the actions of another character, or even profusely dodging attacks. With that out of the way we can look at your example: 'X swings his sword at Y's chest'This is not powergaming mind you! This is a fully acceptable emote as you're not stating something like... oh: 'X swings his sword at Y's chest, making contact and cutting deep into the flesh'^ That is powergaming! Why you may ask? Well if you remember the definition from earlier you're making the other player's character do something that they might avoid otherwise. This is not to say if the other character does this in response:'X swings his sword at Y's chest aiming for a killing blow''Y is impaled, falls over, and dies'^ also not powergaming, because the other player decided what would happen (catching the idea yet?). I suppose the bottom line is that if you emote something so specific that it allows the other player no chance to maneuver within it, as with knox's case, then it's powergaming; if you instead state your intentions in an emote but don't specify the out come... then you're relatively safe. I personally hate when people will emote something like: 'X thrusts his sword forwards towards Y's stomach, it would probably hit due to [bS reason]' No... just no... While you may be correct in your reasoning player X! You're almost giving instructions to the other party as to what to do and passively powergaming because you're influencing them oocly. All should be allowed free will in Rp combat, that's what I stride for, that's what others should stride for, and with that I'll leave you all to rp now, stay un=bananaed! Eleatic 1033 Share Posted November 2, 2013 It does look like it, actually. The emote is lacking as well. I think if he had done, "Roderick swings his scimitar toward the man, however doing so slowly enough that evasion is possible." Or something like that would be a bit better. mmat 7460 Share Posted November 2, 2013 Not powergaming in the slightest. If your emote was; 'Roderick Crawford swings his scimitar towards John Edgy's chest, slicing it open' , that would be, I personally use the *swings sword at chest* type of emote all the time, you're not forcing an action upon the player, you're performing an action of your own. It's a good, simple, casual emote. Though I don't know the situation in which it was used, so if you were underwater, frozen and paralysed, then it would be. Pinsir99 526 Share Posted November 2, 2013 I don't believe that is, this is what I'd consider it to be: Joe stabs the knife into the back of Mike's neck, killing him immediately. Mike is dead.

People don't need to use massive emotes if they don't want to. It's a game of roleplaying, not a writing contest. The emote in the OP looks fine to me. Neri 3590 Share Posted November 2, 2013 If you want to discuss Knox's ban I suggest talking to Haelphon directly. Your question on powergaming has been answered but this isn't the place to discuss bans. Should you wish to have this reopened, please PM me your reasons why it should be so.
