Why Do People Dislike Anthos?

I apologize for making such a thread, but as many of you know, I resigned my staff positions and left the server around April or May of last year. Every so often, I've gone onto the forums to check back in and people seem overwhelmingly against Anthos, something I believe that was a bit more muted six months ago. My question is, what happened and why is everyone so against the map that was designed to be "perfect aligned with what the players want"?

"perfect aligned with what the players want"?

because that part wasn't actually fulfilled ;-;

Edit: To be fair, you can't be "perfectly aligned" anyways lol.

I personally don't hate it that much, it it just too big is all.

However other players hate it because of regioning.

I thought parts of the map were supposed to be unregioned after a period of time?

Size has always been the thing to me that I hated most. Aegis was tight knit. That's why I liked it...

It's too spread out. No one can be found. The "Main Road" barely has anyone on it, and splits in a multitude of directions which takes away from the aspect of a main road.

So in that sense, does it suffer from the same problems that Asulon did, or do you feel that these problems are worse in Anthos?

It isn't what we don't like, it's more what we still do accept of it. There's so much of it we all hate that it'd be more important of trying to find what is manageable.

Large areas of the map has been unregioned, but people always seem to want more.

Pretty much the same to me. Asulon is a slight improvement. Walk from Cloud Temple down the road to the Old Dwarven Capitol though. That was cray. It's still very tedious getting to Abresi.

What about fast travel or soulstones, wouldn't that make the distance more bearable?

Most of it is Ugly to put it simply.

EDIT: To be fair, it has improved recently.

Shouldn't have to. Roads are meant for walking. I keep referring to Aegis but it's the model for travel because it was a tight little road where a lot of roleplay went on at. I barely soul stoned. When I did I was going somewhere in a serious hurry. Or I was carrying something valuable.

It was enjoyable to walk along the road though and see what you saw. I remember watching bandits run to and fro. Undead could linger about and start trouble. Everything was North and South and a stone's throw away. It was nice. You didn't need a server broadcast to tell about an event. You could pretty much just go over to the next town and spread stuff by word of mouth. I mean we still used those because, well, super convenience. A march from Oren to Malinor was bearable.

Additionally, people built whatever they wanted on the road sides. The main road isn't just super long in Anthos- it's uninteresting. There's super neat-o world painted stuff but come on... I like the thrill of finding a rare, physical, beautiful anomaly out in the wilderness. What's the scenery worth if everything is some hand made, untouchable master piece though? I'd rather see everything the players made. The road is as much a showcase as it is a way of transportation.

These big worlds and teleports only detract from what we have in my opinion. We can make a pretty world. We can have a neat, functioning road, and we can do it as players too.

The only real problem I see is the Cloud Temple being a bit out of the way. The road to the main road was annoying. If the Cloud Temple would have been placed at the nations' crossing, I think it would have been perfect. Beyond this, I don't see why so many people hate Anthos. What's wrong with big maps? It offers a bit of realism and allows for travel RP, some of the best RP!
