A Relic Of The Past

The poor and stubborn man sat in the mountains, remembering
a day of riches. He remembered the days of riches and glory the days of power.
Now all he had was torn up clothes, a reminder of better days.

The old man only spoke to his dreams, dreaming of the days
of riches and power, remembering his days of control, his days of dominance.
Now he could not win a fight with a toddler, a sadness he knew was true. What
he had left was his life and the memories of a greater day.

He fiddled with an old coin, a gift from a king. He
remembered his days of importance, the days where he mattered, where people
flocked to him for advice. Now he was nothing but a lost memory, a casualty of
time itself.

The old man griped the coin, shedding a tear of pain,
knowing he was a forgotten relic. The man stood with grace, griping his cane.
He placed his traveling hat on his head, abandoning the life of the forgotten,
and returning to the time of the present.

He slowly descended his mountain, traveling a few short
days. The result of this travel was his arrival at an unknown village. The old
man wandered, amazed by the shape of the people. The old man traversed to the
general store, offering the hat he had worn in return for a few coins. The
owner did not recognize him and simply asked for his name, the old man looked
up with a grin, his broken teeth showing. He gave a simple response, one the
General store owner would forget, but one that would mark the return of a
relic.

“Banok, Banok Gray”

Aret notices Banok as he passes through the town, never forgetting a name. He notes the tattered clothing and allows himself to break from the complete neutrality and emotionlessness of his gaze to raise an eyebrow, before settling it back to its usual state. Remembering the few conversations he had, he takes a quick note of Banok's next heading, before setting off, appearing to quietly whisper to himself.
