The Caerngard are the loyal bodyguard of the Emperor, handpicked to serve by the side of the Emperor and protect him from any immediate danger, and also to anticipate and prevent any potential threat to the Emperor’s life. The Caerngard are chosen only by the Emperor himself, and the only requirement is that the potential candidate be a human in every sense and definition. The Caerngard are a tightly knit unit formed through bonds of intense training and a fanatical devotion to their Emperor.

 

The Caerngard only ever have a maximum of eleven members, and one of the eleven is their appointed commander, who must be of at least gentry rank. This commander, the Morangard, is responsible for overseeing the training, maintenance, discipline, loyalty, and devotion to the Emperor, while also acting as the final say in matters of security to the Emperor. Palace Security is one of the utmost and important duties of the Caerngard, and they decide the accessibility of the Palace to all its guests and inhabitants.

 

Based off Kaedreni culture, the Caerngard wear a uniform unique to their rank and status. Before a Caerngard is officially accepted, he must participate in a hunt, either alone or with company, and claim the skin of an animal, which will then decorate his ornately made fur hat, which is reinforced with a steel cap underneath and adds to the signifying sight of a Caerngard. The Caerngard also bear simple fur cloaks, another attest and respect to Kaedreni culture and adding to the simple but loyal mentality that a member of the Caerngard possesses. The Caerngard are expected to guard the Emperor, protect his secrets, and stand beside him at all times.

 

The oath of the Caerngard is an oath taken for life, or until their duty has been relieved by the Emperor:

 

I, [name], am a guardian of Kaedrin. A protector of the Emperor and all his secrets. A shield and sword to his enemies, and possessive of a resolute mind impossible to corrupt. Unyielding in battle and loyal till my dying breath, I will serve the Emperor until I am relieved of my post by the Sovereign himself, and will eternally honor my position by taking no wife, holding no land, or involving myself in the political landscape of the Empire. I, [name], am a servant to the Emperor.
