[Support] Magic Usage

So today I had several encounters with magic, which I am not sure about even make sense or have been thought out.

Firstly, a caster claimed to be able to know:

Mental magic, earth evocation & electromancy to be lethal for anyone.

Afterwards, I got hit by an electric bolt while standing next to Iron & Water.

These two things bother me highly, and I don't know if its even possible.

For the first thing, I heard from Ttwesten that magic drains you severly, and in the end would kill your character earlier. That being said, casting magic excessively will only speed up the process, and be very tiresome if not harmful for your character. Would it even be possible for the caster to use all three of these magics at once? This is not the first time I had to fight against a magic mania with different abilities from one caster.

Secondly, I do pay attention to my physics classes and I can quote that electricity finds the fastest way through. According to that law, the bolt would rather go to the iron or water than to my leather outfit. Right?

I do wonder wether I am making sense or not, because I have lost myself in how all these magic effects even work. Someone please enlighten me, thank you.

Hmm.. I would bring up the name with a Gm as mental magic is locked, this person may not know or be new to magic. What you are saying does make sense in my opinion at least. Iron is a conductor but im not master on the subject thought I would assume the electricity would go for the iron instead of you. Basically bring it up with a gm and give the persons name so you two can sort it out :).

First ask the caster how he learned mental magic.

Mental magic itself isn't deadly. All forms of evocation have the potential to kill. How it's done depends on the subtype and some subtypes are more difficult than others.

As for the draining bit, that really depends on a lot of factors. It depends on the character using the magic, what magic is being used, and the level of training of such magic. And yes you can die from loss of mana. In the end it all comes down to knowing your character and his limits.

To answer your question on lightning Evo, yes. Lightning will direct itself to iron first(not sure about water) so if one were to cast lightning near metal objects, such as armor they will be required to RP redirecting the magic to that object

Mental magic isn't deadly, nor is it really possible to cast other magic when using it extensively.

Mental magic as far as I am aware, is locked as of now. If you want to PM the name of this person I could tell you if he is permitted to use it IC or not. Of course, you don't have too.

All forms of those three magics can be deadly in their own ways.

You do not die quicker if you cast more magic. You can die if you excessively cast too much at one given time without any break, however one would be more likely to pass out before that can happen. You do not die slowly over time. Many mages are indeed capable of casting three forms of magic at one given time however it would be stressful on the character and cause some problems, yet as mentioned before it is not impossible and many that have learned in roleplay over many years can do such. In this case only minor forms of mental magic may be cast if the two evocations are being used at the same time since mental magic requires much more focus then most other magic types.

Lightning bolts would be attracted to the iron first. Not to water.

Hope this helps.

I am. So. Tired. Of. This.

Look at the guide here - http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/88498-improved-electricity-guide/

And the lore here - http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/71986-%E2%9C%93-awaiting-mat-review-electrical-evocation-magic/

Note how BOTH state in the red lines that there must be 3 blocks of iron or gold in a line for lightning to redirect.

If it weren't like this, it would be completely unusable.

Water really is not that good of a conductor in it self. It increases the conductivity, but not a good conductor itself.

All in all, he was doing it right if there was less than a converted total of 27 metal ingots. A full suit of armor + a sword is 26 ingots.

Just this point here, Fire evocation and Electric evocation can... somewhat... be used together, but mind magic is extremelly hard to use with other magics, so two others at the same time would be probably impossible. And now you know why mind magic is locked.

On the other hand, using 2 or 3 magics at the same time reduces the power of each of them, meaning you probably wouldn't die from the attacks.

Thank you for explaining it to me! MrGreene I shall send you the username of the caster once I found out who it was. I guess this can go to completed support!

I will state now that this was my opinion of magic for the first sentence, on how if you continue to use magic it would kill you, though this takes a extremely long time. I rp it as such and I do not presume others would want to.

Though if you use up to much magic at once in one go, it can tire you out full-fold to the point of un-consciousness, or close to it. Though as for you to state that three magics at once to be casted, well let us see about this. It is difficult to cast two at once, three would be extremely tiresome.
