An old leatherbound book can be found in the imperial kitchens, propped open to this page. On the top, a sketch of a menacing dark elf can be seen. Bloodied shears lie open nearby, indicating that the dish was recently prepared.

A note on the acquisition of ingredients:

The ears of the darkie should not be taken from a dead corpse, but instead from the living beast. One should note not to take the whole ear, but instead just the upper half in imperial manner. The trimming of the creature's ear in this manner is in fact a humane action, helping to dull the animal's edge and render it docile. This will help the poor creature better integrate into society, and serve our Emperor Godfrey more adequately. On this isle of Kalos there is want for delicate meat, and the casual waste of the dark elf's trimmed ears is a most egregious offense, as when rightly prepared it is a most agreeable delicacy.

 

  • 3 lbs dark elf ears, sliced into smaller pieces (kitchen scissors work best for this)
  • 6 C beef broth base (yak is an acceptable substitute in Northern regions)
  • 1 medium potato, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1/4 C barley ale
  • 1/2 Auvergnian red pepper, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Heat over fire, stir until broth is a rich sanguine red, leave boiling for 10 minutes, but do not overcook the meat, else it will turn tough. Bon apétit!
