Helpinghands2 9 Share Posted May 3, 2014 Me again, I'll be quite bussy on the forums the coming time, because I'm new and full of qeustions. The qeustion about magic I have, can you kind of do with it what you want? Like I don't mean blasting someone's head off, but can you change it a little? Like I'm not really a person to spit fire and throw air, I'm more osmeone who makes symbols on the ground and sacrifises, is that allowed? Thanks already, Helpinghands2
Cyndikate 2303 Share Posted May 3, 2014 You have to follow the lore and not be any more powerful than a guy with a sword.
Pandan 1452 Share Posted May 3, 2014 There is usually a way to apply the effects you wish too; for example creating the symbols upon the ground can be done with light illusion however they wont remain without your presence or with the assistance of an alterationist. MamaBearJade 2090 Share Posted May 3, 2014 There is several magics you can learn. However, its best to seek out a teacher either OOCly or ICly to make sure you are using the magic correctly. If you would like, you can PM me and I can answer any questions you have about the server and how to get into a good rp groove ^^First experiences sometimes suck, but it might be helpful to have someone you can go to when you need help. Cyndikate 2303 Share Posted May 3, 2014 Jade's right. Please find a teacher and not just pick up magic on the go. You'll get a lot of respect from other players.

Helpinghands2 9 Author Share Posted May 3, 2014 I know, I know, but my qeustion rather is, can I write a new lore? To 'make' my own kind of magic?
Cyndikate 2303 Share Posted May 3, 2014 I know, I know, but my qeustion rather is, can I write a new lore? To 'make' my own kind of magic? They aren't accepting lore until the new map

Elindor 666 Share Posted May 4, 2014 You have complete freedom to play whatever magic you want. That means something completely new. However, the Canon Magic Types have been worked on by staff for a long time to attempt to be balanced and (in general) not leave great open doors to powergaming. So for the player's own security against ban reports, you are better off sticking to them and finding a teacher to show you the right way. If you do choose to follow your own form of magic you will be limited more greatly than the Canon Magic Types. You must adhere to the "Mechanical Standard" which is a rule that states if you can't do something in vanilla minecraft then you can't do it just because you type something out. Nerd-poles being the exception. You can never block jump up to something. Whereas the Canon Magics can do things that go beyond the capabilities of minecraft mechanics like reading minds and lifting objects remotely. Also as previously stated, the best your magic can ever get will still be equal to a skilled swordsman. You don't autonatically win just because you have some magic. You should also avoid doubling up on abilities of existing magics. Many suggestions that used to come through for new magic types were too similar to existing ones to ever be accepted. You're much better off learning a Canon Magic than trying to smoosh all your favourite moves into one new subtype. That's going to be power gaming. So, can you pursue your own magic? Sure. But it isn't really advisable as you could end up in hot water quite easily.
Mephistophelian 977 Share Posted May 5, 2014 My advice (which has probably been said before this post) is to seek out a teacher. Many teachers are willing to show you how to correctly roleplay your magic, as well as guide you through the steps required to gain the knowledge required to use this magic. Remember, you will have a far greater chance of /not/ powergaming if you are taught by a good teacher, and follow their instructions. I, for one, make it a goal to teach my students how to RP magic beautifully/well/abiding to the rules, so that they will not be screamed at for powergaming as they will not do it. Look for a teacher who strives to make a name for themselves by producing good students, as they will be the ones who try their best to make you RP magic correctly.
