Avacyn 1712 Share Posted May 12, 2014 The Sons of Owyn By the word of Lord Harrison Briarwood the Sons of Owyn is hereby established as an auxiliary force tasked with the defense and preservation of humanity’s purity and sovereignty. The Sons of Owyn is represented as the levy and bannermen of House Briarwood and therefore by extension House De Savoie. The Sons of Owyn are the devoted sons and daughters of the Exalted Owyn I, Chiefest of the Creator’s servants. It is they who stand as humanity’s bulwark against those who would see the history, culture, and well-being of God’s chosen children compromised. It is they whose hearts burn with the sacred fire of passion and faith, and illuminate the path for those who are lost in darkness. It is they who seek to defend us all from the terrors in the night. Duties I. To seek out threats to humanity’s purity, sovereignty, and sanctity. II. To defend humanity from threats to its purity, sovereignty, and sanctity. III. To enlighten those who deny or remain unaware of humanity’s purity, sovereignty, and sanctity. The Sons of Owyn aims to act as a military force that hunts down and either eliminates or re-educates threats to humanity, which are determined by their iconic faith in Owyn I. Those that the Sons deems as threats to the purity, sovereignty, and sanctity of humanity include but are not limited to: - Those of mixed race, having human blood: “Halfbreeds”. They who would defile the pure blood that Owyn I fought so valiantly simply spit on his name by laying with another race. There are exceptions to this crime, for those who have proven themselves still loyal servants to God. - Those who denounce and/or threaten the legitimacy and sovereignty of the Imperium Tertius and all preceding regimes of humanity: “Insurgents”. Humanity has always reigned as a sovereign nation, and shall always continue to do so, whether it be under the Horen, Carrion, or Chivay dynasties. Oath In the name of the father, the son, and the holy flame, do I kneel here now: from here on out, let my passions burn, my faith be rekindled, and my duty ignited, for now do the flames in my heart glow brightly. In sight of God, of Owyn, and his brothers, do I swear to give myself wholly to His cause. I will take no lives out of spite, only out of need. I will discard the pleasures of the mortal plane, and replace them with the tenants of holy service. I will take up the shield and sword of humanity, and protect the Crown and the Faith from its enemies abroad. My spirit is ablaze, and I rise, ready to serve. Ranks Commander: The Commander of the Sons of Owyn takes less of a primarily military role, and serves as more of an administrator. This is not to say they do not fight: they are still leader upon the battlefield. Armsmaster: The Armsmaster of the Sons of Owyn is tasked with the recruitment and training of the Brothers and Sisters. They are required to be a well-trained, and wisened fighter, in Sons to pass their wisdom and expertise on to the others of the Sons. They can appoint themselves or a knight to take up the role of the Sons’ Champion, usually representing them at tourneys and other engagements alike. Vigilant: The highest rank obtainable when both command positions are filled, the Vigilants of the Sons of Owyn achieve this rank when they are deemed worthy of knighthood not just by the Commander and Armsmaster, but also by the Imperial Marshal, so that they may be seen as a Knight in both the eyes of the Sons and the eyes of the realm. They are senior warriors, and expected to display leadership among the ranks. Brother/Sister: The default rank of the Sons of Owyn, they make up the majority of the roster. A Brother or Sister of the Sons is expected to uphold the tenets they swore to in their holy oath. They must train vigilantly, and always strive to serve God and Owyn the best they can. Brothers and Sisters of the Sons develop bonds with one another, for they are siblings and companions. Unoathed: Taking from the traditions of the Holy Sons of the White Rose, the Unoathed are those who have just put forward interest in the Sons, and have not proven themselves ready to take the Oath yet. They are usually delegated to the base duties of tending to the properties of the Sons, including but not limited to organizing goods, cleaning, cooking, and resource gathering. Hard work shows determination, a value much appreciated among the Sons’ ranks. Noncombat Roles: - Chaplain: A spiritual figure to the Sons. In charge of leading mass, and teaching Unoathed about God and Owyn.- Steward: In charge of the Sons’ funds and valuables, as well as taking an administrative position in House Briarwood’s land holdings. - Blacksmith: In charge of the arms and armor of the Sons. Forges and distributes them for battle. Joining Contact Lord Harrison Briarwood ((merrymoogle)) in order to inquire about recruitment. Avacyn 1712 Author Share Posted May 12, 2014 Bishop Henry thinks that this is not sanctioned by the church and should not be thought of as an order under the true faith Lord Harrison Briarwood would acknowledge the following points: a) The Sons of Owyn never have and never will claim to be under the direct sanction and dominion of the current Church of the True Faith. b) The Sons of Owyn declared themselves as simply the bannermen of House Briarwood and by extension De Savoie, in the establishment. c) The Sons of Owyn never declared themselves a formal Order. Charles_Grimlie 1072 Share Posted May 12, 2014 *A carrier pigeon swoops down unto the structure of 'The Sons of Owyn' dispatching a letter which has arrived from the Order of Saint Lucien, clearly marked by a wax seal similar to the crest owned by the Grand Master Jack Rovin. Upon freeing the letter of its wax bonds it unfurls to reveal the lavish writting of an educated gentlemen.* "To the Order of 'The Sons of Owyn', It is by recent news that we, The Order of Saint Lucien, have received we have been motivated to write a response regarding the motivations of your Order. Firstly, we are aware of your status and that your Order does not stand under the Church nor intends to represent the Church, which we can tell from his Eminence Bishop Henry's response. However, this poses a set of particular problems for in your codex you claim to perform the duty of dealing with 'Apostates'. Although we must commend you on your zealous nature we cannot find this activity acceptable for you are expressing the moral authorities of The Church by practicing the likes of witch hunting and slaying of Heathens. Mind you, I am fully certain you are aware that we are an ecclesiastical Order and also find this activity to infringe on our sole duty to the realm. Therefore we ask that you, Lord Briarwood, cease these activities and remove them from your Order's goals and operations. Next, your early ranking system is a clear mock of our own. Although this may seem childish, we ask that it is changed so that your Order is not mistaken for our own. Finally we must request that you respect the divinity of whom you dubbed your Order after, his title is 'Saint Owyn', not Owyn for this is a disrespect and negligence of his deeds performed in life. May we both walk the path of enlightenment and hope that one day you and your comrades will seek to serve the Church under the Banner of Saint Lucien. Sending his Regards, High Prior Holy Ser Rosencrantz of The Order of Saint Lucien."
Avacyn 1712 Author Share Posted May 12, 2014 The pigeon returns to Aesterwald promptly, with a new message, sealed with a flame-shaped sigil. To The Poor-Fellow Soldiers of Horen and the Temple of Ard Krallackh, Thank you for the clear message, and not dawdling with unnecessary speech. I will not do so either, so I will simply say: I respectfully deny your requests for the following reasons. I. That firstly this document and the formation of this very levy was wholly approved by my superiors in the matter, those being the August Imperial Chancellor Olivier de Savoie, and the August Imperial Marshal Vibius de Sola, when it was presented to them. II. That secondly The Sons of Owyn as an entity are not obligated to obey the demands of an ecclesiastical order. III. That thirdly I, Lord Harrison Briarwood, and the Sons of Owyn are firm in our belief that not every group in the realm must be their own unique entity, where no else can perform the same tasks as them. We will not interfere with your duties, and would expect the same from you. IV. That fourth and finally, The Exalted Owyn I is not merely a Saint and was canonized as Exalted along with the Exalted Horen, The Exalted Siegmund, and The Exalted Godfrey, and that if this has changed there was no Bull presented to the public eye saying such. Owyn I was already declared as Exalted earlier in the document, and so for the sake of smooth speech and not being redundant he was not repeatedly referred to by his full title, just as His Imperial Majesty would not wish to be addressed by every possible title he holds every time his name is mentioned. I also would like to inquire further into your hopes that we would submit to the banner of Saint Lucien. I can assure you, such will not happen, as we will remain the bannermen of House Briarwood and House De Savoie. Signed, Lord Harrison Briarwood
Avacyn 1712 Author Share Posted May 12, 2014 Another letter is sent in response to the latter. To Mister Rovin, You have already outlined what I wanted to say within the first paragraph of your letter. You are Church, and I am state. In no way am I inclined to obey your demands or submit to them, and in no way do I need the approval or respect of a man who descends a few rungs on the ladder in order to jeer and deride within a supposedly-formal missive. Now, I had thought this matter resolved upon speaking with the Holy Ser Rosencrantz, but apparently not. For the sake of keeping tensions low and keeping the Darfeyists happy, I hereby remove two targeted threats from the list given in the document outlining The Sons of Owyn. On a final note, I did well for Kaedrin while its fathers were away, and I know the Imperial Family is proud of me for such. Do Your Duty, I'll Do Mine, Lord Harrison Briarwood, Commander of the Sons of Owyn, Lord Paramount and Patriarch of House Briarwood, Lord of Caer Rhoswyn, Son of Marcus Briarwood, former servant to The Exalted Godfrey, former man-at-arms of the Holy Order of the White Rose, bannerman of House Chivay, and personal aide to Saint Hadrian, The Grandson of Kaedrin Slayer of Adunigines
