Admin Team.

Before I start, I am more than aware that I know that the title is very vague and that a more appropriate title should be used, but I cannot really think of one that would best suit it.

Now, the reason I wanted to make this thread is because about a week ago I came across a rumour about new Admins being added in the coming weeks/months and later inquiries into this made me seem like a fool who fell for them but that got me thinking, do we need new Admins, to add to the team or replace current ones?

At a first glance, some may say no and some may say yes, and even from the side of a Global Moderator, we can see reasons why both sides have their points but I decided to go a bit further into it and ask some members of the community, a simple three questions which were directed at an Admin and each member was different to the last, and each only got questions regarding one admin.

For example sake I will put below how everything will be set out;

[Admin Name]

Player one.

Question 1.

Answer 1.

Question 2.

Answer 2.

Question 3.

 Answer 3.

I had five players answer three questions for each Admin, here are the results I got.

Alan

Player one.

Do you know who Alan (Rittsy) is?

Mhmm

Do you know what Alan’s role as an Admin is?

No, not exactly

Care to take a guess what his role is?

General management, no?

Player two.

So you know who Alan (Rittsy) is?

Yes

Do you know what Alan’s role as an Admin is?

Yes

What is his role?

He’s the lore admin, in control of the lore and has also lately been posting big changes , so I guess also community.

Player three.

Do you know who Alan (Rittsy) is?

Yes

Do you know what Alan’s role as an Admin is?

Not really

Care to guess what his role is?

I assume he’s in charge of the rules. He’s always tends to writes on the though/complicated ban appeals made by prominent members, and posts the rule change things.

Player four.

Do you know who Alan (Rittsy) is?

No

Player five.

Do you know who Alan (Rittsy) is?

Yeah

Do you know what Alan’s role as an Admin is?

Yes

What is his role?

Normal administrative duties such as managing the staff teams, dealing with large altercations among the playerbase, keeping the server's funding and functionality in check and as well managing lore

Being the only active Admin, that I see on the regular, and be constantly on the chats when it comes to... Well anything really. As well as a person that I feel comfortable going to about personal issues.

Viper

Player one.

Do you know who Viper3x is?

I know of him.

Do you know what Viper3x’s role as an Admin is?

No

Care to take a guess what his role is?

Floating about?

Player two.

Do you know who Viper3x is?

Yes

Do you know what Viper3x’s role as an Admin is?

No

Care to take a guess what his role is?

Well if he is active now, event team admin?

Player three.

Do you know who Viper3x is?

Yes

Do you know what Viper3x’s role as an Admin is?

No

Care to take a guess what his role is?

Media?

Player four.

Do you know who Viper3x is?

No

Player five.

Do you know who Viper3x is?

Yes

Do you know what Viper3x’s role as an Admin is?

Yes

What is his role?

He was in charge of the Server antagonist. He's also the Advisor of Teams.

Now I know I am not the first, nor will I be the last, to bring up his 2 month disappearance act that he has conjured up currently. Yes real life is a thing, but he is the Global Moderator leader and we /need/ a leader. I highly suggest at least demoting him until he returns, and putting someone to that position, as we cannot just simply sit around anymore with a spot being used up by, for lack of a better word, a bench warmer.

Tythus

Player one.

Do you know who Tythus is?

Yes

Do know what Tythus's role as an Admin is?

Yes

What is his role?

Tythus' role as Admin on the server is almost more of one as an owner. Tythus is responsible for all the legal documents of the server as well as financial business (I believe.) He is also responsible for overall server maintenance as he is one of the ones on the server who know all the tech that goes into running, updating, and overall care of the server. He attempts to find better ways to make it more accessible and realistic while keeping the “LOTC VIBE” to the server.

Player two.

Do you know who Tythus is?

Yep

Do you know what Tythus’s role as an Admin is?

No

Care to guess what his role is?

Organizing things on the server?

Player three.

Do you know who Tythus is?

Yes

Do you know what Tythus’s role as an Admin is?

Yes

What is his role?

Running the server, helps keep stuff organized and he hosts it. Also helps with some of the new plugins.

Player four.

Do you know who Tythus is?

Yeah

Do you know what Tythus’s role as an Admin is?

Yes

What is his role?

Web admin, incharge of the site and physical server.

Player five.

Do you know who Tythus is?

Yes

Do you know what Tythus’s role as an Admin is?

Yes.

What is his role?

He administrates the server and the Teamspeak in terms of hardware, software, payment. As well as financial matters.

Putting it bluntly and simply, he owns the paypal and basically everything to do with Lord of the Craft. Perhaps that much responsibility is too much to give one person, but that isn't what this thread is about.

Urasept

Player one.

Do you know who Urasept is?

Yes

Do you know what Urasept’s role as an Admin is?

Yes

What is his role?

His role is to manage the 4.0 Antag.

Player two.

Do you know who Urasept is?

I have heard of him

Do you know what Urasept’s role as an Admin is?

Not really

Care to take a guess what his role is?

I think he’s a techie though.

Player three.

Do you know who Urasept is?

Yes

Do you know what Urasept’s role as an Admin is?

No

Care to take a guess what his role is?

Forum admin?

Player four.

Do you know who Urasept is?

Yes

Do you know what Urasept’s role as an Admin is?

No

Care to guess what his role is?

I don’t know

Player five.

Do you know who Urasept is?

Yes

Do you know what Urasept’s role as an Admin is?

Nope

Care to guess what his role is?

No idea

Not even I know what Urasepts role is right now, all I have been told or remember being told is "4.0 Antag manager" or something along those lines, we don't need an Admin dedicated to that. A Global Moderator would be sufficient to do this, considering we already have an Admin who only seems to be doing 4.o stuff, we don't need one that is only working on 4.0 Antag stuff. As well as that, I honestly don't see him around, though I do recall something about his computer messing up.

Shiftnative

Player one.

Do you know who Shiftnative is?

Yes

Do you know what Shiftnative’s role as an Admin is?

No

Care to guess his role?

I'd assume he'd just manage and help plan the future of the server

Player two.

Do you know who Shiftnative is?

Yes

Do you know what Shiftnative’s role as an Admin is?

Yes

What is his role?

The only thing I remember of the top my head is  overseeing development of 4.0, as well s him making a post about new GMs, though I believe that to be a group decision of Admins.

Player three.

Do you know who Shiftnative is?

Yes

Do you know what Shiftnative’s role as an Admin is?

Yes

What is his role?

I believe he is the lead developer of this server, stimulating the teams under him and developing new content for future updats and patches.

Player four.

Do you know who Shiftnative is?

Yes

Do you know what Shiftnative’s role as an Admin is?

Nope

Care to guess what his role is?

No idea

Player five.

Do you know who Shiftnative is?

Yes

Do you know what Shiftnative’s role as an Admin is?

Yes

What is his role?

The forum says lead developer, so that.

Native the lead developer, or leader of the server (people have said this as well as GMs so I can only assume this is true.) I can understand the focus on 4.0, but while you look into the future, we are suffering in the present! It's all well and good promising to have a frequent face on both forums and server when 4.0 comes around, but that is needed now not later! I highly doubt that choosing one day a week, dedicated to the main server and forums would derail 4.0 anymore than the plugins needing made and the builds needing completion!

Take what you want from this, use the information however you wish and please consider my point.

Do Admins need replaced or removed? Maybe.

Do we need more Admins? I am inclined to say yes.

Do we need active, and social Admins? Hell yes, whether this is through getting new blood or putting a rocket up our current teams ass.

This has been my ramblings, post your opinion.

Thank you sky for doing this

Viper and Urasept perhaps need to have more active faces, and substitute absences with other Admins methinks.

Both very capable and talented people, maybe only their activity is what might bother some. New admins may be a favourable choice this time around, and perhaps new GM's as well.

I'd like to have a rotations of backup admins when they are unavailable. You cant wait until a admin goes inactive to decide a new one. You decide a new one in advance and have him/her assume it as soon as possible. If the admin returns, then the admin team can decide if the substitute can or the ex-admin would be back on the administrative council.

I don't think this would be effective. Essentially, it would mean that the Admins trust a certain GM enough to have them as an Admin-- so what's stopping them from setting that GM as an Admin right away?

If that were to happen as well, the "backup-Admins" would essentially act like Admins too, because they know they're up for the block, and know they don't have to work hard and they're getting it anyways. I won't pretend like this doesn't exist, but one of the (often empowering) drives of GM's is that if they work hard enough, they will be able to rise up to complete executive power of the server.

All that needs to happen is a higher level of responsiveness from the Administration in realizing inactivities. Something proven by tradition not to be particularly simple, but it's the only real solution I believe, and most straightforward.
